*flashback to a month ago*

Things were progressing greatly. Jakob and Camille were in their own little love bubble. They spent all of their free time together. They had so much fun together. Music and literature were always the topic of discussion. They just clicked. The couple was in bed, watching "What to Expect When Expecting." Well, Camille was watching and Jak was on the web. "Awww, look how cute she looks pregnant. I cannot wait to have kids." Camille turned to look at Jakob. His face was all screwed up. Camille was thoroughly confused. "Baby, what was that look about?" Jak replied matter of factly "Kids aren't my thing. I've never wanted any." Camille's face dropped as did her heart. She was thoroughly confused. "He doesn't want kids. How come I didn't know this before?" she thinks. "Are you serious?" she asks. He says "Yea, I am. I thought you knew?" "No, I did not. You never said a word," she says as she sits up indian-style in the bed. She was so hurt by his words. She was actually speechless. Jak sensed this. He says "Baby, I love you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Just you and I. Just us two. Is there anything wrong with that?" Camille digests his words. They are somewhat bitter going down.

"Jak, you know I love you too. It happened so quickly but felt so right. But, I want kids. They are a part of my plan. Always." she says. They are tears falling from her eyes as she was speaking. She was literally in pain. How could it be possible that this wonderful man doesn't want what she wants. She has been dreaming of having his kids for weeks now. "Why is this just coming up now? Why didn't we discuss this before..." her voice trails off. Jakob hates that he is hurting her. But, he refuses to bring a child into this world. His father was a horrible parent. He was a drug addict and he was bi-polar. Jakob was deathly afraid of passing those genes down to a kid. He decided long ago that children weren't an option. "Cami, I would be a terrible father. I don't want to do that to my own child." Nothing Jakob is saying is consoling Camille. She continued to cry. She was speechless. She got up and got dressed. She needed to be alone. "Jak, I need some time. I'm going home." Jak gets out of bed and grabs her. He hugs her tight and begs her to stay. She cries into his chest. He whispers "I love you, Camille. I do." "I love you too, Jakob. I still need to go to think." She walks out.

Camille shakes her head, trying to stop reliving that night. "I still cannot believe this is happening to me." she thinks. She lays in the bed, rubbing her stomach. Her and Jakob haven't really spoken much since that night. And now this. This was truly ironic. She was pregnant. Pregnant for a man who didn't want kids. Pregnant and alone. Now she has a choice to make. To tell him or not. To have this baby or not. Camille was so confused. Crying again. It is all she has done in the last two days. She knows she has to tell him. She couldn't be that woman. Yes, it's her body and her choice. But, this baby is his too. Camille sends a text she is dreading. "Jakob, we need to talk. Can you come to my house?" Jakob was home when the text came through. His heart smiled as he read the words from Camille. He texted back "On my way." He smiled with hope. "Maybe she finally wants to finish what we started" he thought as he drove to her house. Jak wanted things to be back the way they were before the baby talk. He missed her. He missed her smile and the way she argued at the political pundits on Fox/CNN/MSNBC. He missed everything about her. And, he was determined to get her back. He sent her calla lillies to her job every Thursday just because he knew they were her favorite flowers and that it was her favorite day. He would leave her voice messages because he know she liked it. He was wooing her back. He felt like it worked.

Pulling into her driveway, Jakob was confident. He knocked on the door instead of using the key she gave him. He didn't want to seem to pushy. Camille opened the door. "Hi," she said. "Hey there" he replied. "Come in." hey both enter the living room and sit on opposite sofas. Both nervous, neither jump to speak. Jakob starts "Camille, I've missed you. A lot. I hope this means you missed me too." Camille smiles weakly. "I have Jak. A lot." He smiled and sighs with relief. He walks over to sit next to her. Camille dropped her head. She was afraid of his reaction. "I have something to tell you," she mumbled. "Ok baby. I'm listening." Camille inhales deeply. "Well, I don't know what your reaction will be," she says as she raises her head, "But I just found out that I'm, no, we're pregnant." The silence was deafening. Jakob was livid. He couldn't believe that this was happening. He couldn't speak or even think straight. He was seeing red. "WHAT DO YOU MEAN?" he screamed. "Pregnant? Nah, that's not happening, Camille." She knew he wouldn't be happy but she didn't expect this response. The look of total disgust on Jakob's face was undeniable. Camille was crushed. "It IS happening. There is a baby. Our baby, Jakob." Jakob jumps up and begins pacing. "You can't have this baby. You know how I feel. I'll pay for the termination."

Camille was pissed. "Termination? Don't be so clinical. Say it. Abortion, Jakob. You don't get to decide what I'm going to do. Oh, and fuck you. How bout that? That's where you automatically go...to an abortion? I cannot believe you." Camille was screaming at this point. "Just go. I know how you feel now. Get the hell out of my house please." Camille says calmly as she walks towards the door fuming. Jakob knows he should smooth the situation out. But he can't because he is so angry. He follows her. "I've avoided having kids for 38 years. I have no plans to be any kids dad. That's not in my plans, Camille." "I don't need to hear your excuses. I didn't make this baby on my own. We did this. You and I. Remember that? Just leave, Jakob. Go." She opens the door to indicate that this conversation was over. He walks out dejected and pissed. She slams the door in his face. As soon as she turns the lock, she breaks down. The tears spill out of her eyes easily. She runs to the sofa and flings herself on it. She sobs deeply. She is more heartbroken than before. She goes to her room and climbs into bed. Hugging the pillow, she closes her eyes. She cries herself to sleep.

Something shook Camille out of her deep, pain filled sleep. She awoke with a start. Instantly grabbing her stomach. She was cramping badly. "Aaarrrgghh," she yelled. The pain was so intense Camille felt like she was dying. She was curled up into a ball in the middle of the bed holding her stomach. "Oh my God, it hurts. Make it stop." She slid out of the bed onto the floor. Then, she crawled into the bathroom. Camille felt like her insides were being ripped out. She grabbed onto the wall and pulled herself up to turn on the light. Pain hit her again as she screamed and fell to the floor. And, it was there, on the floor where Camille discovered the blood. She knew what was wrong. She knew what was happening in that moment. She did not know why. Why was this happening to her? Why now? She couldn't move. She was in too much pain. She lay there on the cold tiles feeling like she was dying. She couldn't help herself or her baby. She wanted to die. She laid there shaking and writhing in agony for what felt like hours. She

She crawled to her phone to call 911. She crawled to the front door to wait on the ambulance. She felt herself slipping into the darkness once she opened the front door. She knew she had to hold on. In the distance, she faintly heard the sirens. She could sleep now. That's all she wanted to do was sleep. Camille held her stomach as she laid her head on the floor. She was cold. She no longer felt any pain. She was calm. This was over. Paramedics ran towards the open door. "Ma'am , are you ok?" he asked. No response. The female paramedic checked for a pulse. There was none. They tried to revive her. Tried to bring her back. They were too late. Camille was gone. Jakob pulled up to Camille's house in a panic when he sees the ambulance. He runs from the street to her door. He is stopped by a police officer. "Where is Camille? I have to tell her something." he yells. "Sir, who are you? How do you know Camille?" the cop asks. Jakob begins to answer but stops suddenly when the paramedics roll Camille's lifeless body out on a gurney. Her face is covered. Jakob cannot believe this. "Sir, I'm sorry but she's gone." the cop says. Jakob runs to the gurney. "I have to see her. Let me see Camille." Jakob uncovers her face and the tears flow. He can't stop sobbing. He whispers in her ear how sorry he is and how wrong he was. "It wasn't supposed to end like this." he says to no one in particular.

The Art of Storytelling: "Head and Heart"

Warning: The following story is sexually explicit. Read at your own risk.

This is part 9 in an on-going series. The rest is available here:

1) "Unexpected Meeting"
2) "All Night Conversation"
3) "Breakfast Buddies"
4) "Past, Present, Future"
5) "About Last Night"
6) "Clarification & Coffee"
7) "9 1/2 Weeks Later"

"The door will be unlocked. Meet me in my bedroom. I only have one rule: you have to be naked by the time you enter. Hurry up or I'll be forced to start without you, Baby ;-)" This is the text that Jakob just received from Camille. He read it four different times before he could reply. His body did not take but mere seconds to react. He felt the blood race to his dick. He hardened at her text. "Wow. I'm on my way, Honey" he texted back. Jakob was shocked. Camille is not a very forward chick. "She must be in a mood," Jakob thought. He jumped in the shower to get ready. He was dressed and out the door in less than seven minutes. He cut through the back streets to get to Camille's house in record time.

Camille was tired of fighting a war between her head and heart. She wanted to be more for Jakob. She was reserved in many ways. But, didn't want to be any more. She knew that she could be the free woman she yearned to be in her heart. Now, was the time to shed the skin she's been in. Her head wanted to reason things. Her heart was tired of listening. She had made her choice. Camille finishes her third glass of Pinot Grigio before unlocking her front door. She walks to her bedroom smiling. She only has on a colorful short silk robe. She stands in front of the huge mirror she just had delivered today. "I can't believe the text I sent him. But, I want him so bad right now," she said out loud to herself. Untying her robe, she let it slip to the floor. Naked, she runs her hands over her breasts and down her body. She was incredibly turned on. "Hurry up, Jak." she says. She lights the strawberries & cream candles and turns the lights off. Turning on her ipod, she scrolls to her "All Night Sexdown" playlist that she just finished earlier. She puts it on repeat all and presses play. Camille turns down her comforter and turns her lamps on dim. Then, she finally climbs in bed.

Listening to "Dance For You," Camille notices her hard her nipples are. Her hands begin to roam her body. Slowly rubbing her thighs is turning her on. She picks up her cell & snaps a picture of herself. She sends it to Jakob with a message that says "Had to start without you. But don't worry I won't come until you can too." Dropping her cell on the bed next to her, she slides her fingers over her pussy. She's already wet. "Oooohh," she moans as she slides a finger inside her wetness. Her left hand is squeezing her nipple as her left hand is inside of her. She already knew that tonight would be special. She wanted to fuck Jakob. Hard, long, now. She was craving his touch, his lips, his dick. She needed him. He was her drug of choice. She was an addict. And, tonight, she was intent on fulfilling his fantasy of her taking charge. She couldn't wait. These thoughts made her finger fuck herself faster. And, it felt incredible. She felt herself getting too close. "Jakob," she moaned loudly as she slipped her fingers out of her wetness. Lightly rubbing her clit, she knew she wouldn't last. Right as this thought crossed her mind, Jakob entered the room. She smiled.

Her eyes swept over his naked body. Seeing him made her hotter. She finds her voice and says "Hey Daddy. I've been a really bad girl while waiting on you." She opens her legs wide so he could watch her. "See? I can't stop touching myself," she says as her fingers slide inside of her. Moaning but never taking her eyes off of her man. "Stroke him for me while you watch me," she commands. "Ok Baby," Jakob says as he wraps his hand around his hardness. His eyes go from her eyes to her fingers. He was so turned on watching her. He loved it. She had never done this before. Never been comfortable with the idea of a man watching her as she made herself cum. He walks closer to her four poster California king sized bed. He sits on the edge so he can watch her better. "I need you to cum for me, Camille. Can you do that for me?" he asks. "Yes," she moans. Her fingers are moving faster, going deeper as she gets turned on from him watching her. She is literally fucking her fingers as she rubs her clit. All Jakob can hear is his baby moaning his name over and over. He knew the signs, knew she was going to give him what he wants. He strokes faster while watching her. "That's it baby. Just let go. Cum for Daddy," he whispers. "Oooohh, I'm gonna cum. Fuuuccckkk." Every word out of Camille's mouth was essentially a long drawn out moan. Jakob was loving it. He felt like he could cum any moment as well. He watches her intensely. Camille cums all over her fingers while her head is thrown back. "Damn, she looks so incredible like this," he thinks.

As she comes back down and her breathing settles, she opens her eyes and looks at Jak. "That was incredible," she tells him. He says "I know." He's still stroking himself. She notices. "Come here," Camille says. Jakob walks to the head of the bed as Camille turns onto her side. Before he realizes what she wants, she has her mouth over the head of his dick. "Yesssss" he moans. Camille looks up at him as she sucks every inch of him into her mouth. Sucking and stroking him was making Camille feel very empowered. She wanted him to feel good. So, she did what she knew he loved. Alternating between sucking and licking, she got him to moan some more. She loved to hear him moan. "I want you to cum in my mouth," she tells him. He just shakes his head yes. She goes to work. Sucking him faster. Deep-throating him. Licking the under side of his dick. Thoroughly enjoying having him in her mouth. She knew he was close. She could taste his pre-cum on her tongue. Her grabbed her head and said "I'm about to cum, Baby." Camille smiled and continued to suck. He came in her mouth and she swallowed every drop.

Licking him clean, she was satisfied with herself. He smiled at her "I don't know what got into you tonight but I'm loving it." She responds "The only thing that I need to get into me tonight is you. And I plan on making sure you do just that." They are laying side by side in her bed, cuddled up. His fingers were inside of her, slowly sliding in and out. She was running her nails up and down his back. They were just listening to the music and touching each other. He was making her wet. She knew she was going to need him inside of her walls sooner than later. He knew he had to be buried deep inside of her because it was his favorite place to be. She just fit him. This is one of the great reasons they just worked. This was just the beginning of a great night. They both knew it. And, both as knew that this was more than a sex thing. This was love. They were falling in love with each other.

The Art of Storytelling: "A House Divided...Or Not"

This is part 8 in an on-going series. The rest is available here:

1) "Unexpected Meeting"
2) "All Night Conversation"
3) "Breakfast Buddies"
4) "Past, Present, Future"
5) "About Last Night"
6) "Clarification & Coffee"
7) "9 1/2 Weeks Later"

The ride home was overwhelmingly quiet. Camille was pissed. "How could one woman ruin such a great day?" she thinks. Camille was sitting with her legs and arms crossed in the car. A slight scowl was on her face as she looked straight forward. She didn't trust herself to speak just yet. She felt...embarrassed. That's exactly what she felt. She was accosted in a very public way in a very public place. And for what?? "Whatever. I will not let this woman mess up what we have." she continued to think. Camille tried to zone out a little while listening to some jazz. She was trying to shake Yasmine's negativity off. Camille knew that what she had with Jakob was something special. She could just feel it. She wasn't letting go, especially not because of his dramatic ex. Her Mom taught her better than that.

Jakob was pensive. That is the best way to describe his state of mind. He was also very concerned about what Camille was thinking, feeling. She was too quiet. "She hasn't uttered a word since we left," he thinks. "What can I do to break her out of this foul mood?" He suddenly had a great idea. One he knew would lighten the mood. He would take her to the place she has mentioned for weeks. It wasn't exactly his type of thing. But, he knew it would bring a smile to her face. He quickly navigated the streets trying to get them to their destination as quick as possible. Jazz music flowed throughout the car on the ride. It was the only calming thing about the ride. He pulled into a parking spot and was out of the car before Camille really noticed. She didn't realize it until Jakob opened her door.

She looked up at him. He had his hand outstretched to her. "Camille, I am so sorry about that scene. But, I refuse to let her mess up our day. Come with me, please?" he asks. Camille couldn't say no to him. Couldn't say no to that smile. And, the reality is, it wasn't his fault. She places her hand in his and exits the car. He pulls her into an embrace and kisses her. She kisses him back. They both just knew that they were fine. That this was right. The two of them walked hand in hand around the back of this building. "Just exactly where are you dragging me, sir?" Camille questioned. Jakob smiled at her and replied "Some place that will make that pretty smile of yours return to its rightful place." She was intrigued. He was good at surprises. She loved that about him. So, she walked next to her man onto this mythical place. As the rounded the corner, she broke out into a great smile.

"Oh my God!! Jakob, I thought you said that this wasn't your kind of place?" "I did. But, I know how happy this place makes you." They were walking into the Aquarium, one of Camille's favorite places. He was right, it did make her happy. There was something about the water and the fish that calmed Camille. She couldn't believe how sweet he was. "Jakob, thank you." she says. "No, thanks needed." he says. "You are smiling so hard. You look as excited as a kid." "I am." They pay to enter and Camille immediately takes Jakob to the viewing area downstairs. It was her favorite spot. It had the feel of being underwater. It always made her feel so safe, so alive. She has loved this spot in all aquariums since she was 5. She stood in front of the huge window watching the fish and the jellyfish. "Look at how colorful and beautiful they are." she says excitedly. Jakob was watching her watching the fish. He couldn't help but enjoy the view. He had to admit that this was a great idea. "This place is great. I have to agree, Camille."

Camille dragged Jakob from display to display all afternoon. She let him enter into a world that has been uniquely hers since she was a kid. She had never been here with a man she was dating before. This was special. She told him about coming here with her Dad and why it was such a great childhood memory for her. He let her guide their adventure. They even ate seafood poboys from one of the outdoor cafes inside the aquarium. While eating, Jakob lets Camille know something. "I just hope you can forgive me for that scene. I'm-" "Wait, you don't have to apologize, Jakob. It is what it is. We can't live our lives hiding from our pasts. We are fine, great even." Camille says. e grabs her face tenderly and replies "We are great, Sweetheart." She leans in and kisses him. "Yep, we are, Baby." And, kisses him again. They finish their food. They enter the gift shop. Camille was particularly fond of a cute little fish keychain that she had to have. She got one for the both of them. She tried on silly glasses just to make him laugh. "You look like a clown, Baby. Those glasses are not hot." he says. Camille, determined to prove a point, buy the glasses and an equally silly pair for him. "I'm wearing mine out the store." "You wouldn't dare," Jakob says laughing. Camille, fixes the sunglasses on her face and struts out the door. Jakob follows suits, dons his sunglasses and follows her out. they leave the aquarium arm in arm. Both equally happy that their day was saved. Only good things can come from this.

The Art of Storytelling: "9 1/2 Weeks Later"

This is part 7 in an on-going series. The rest is available here:

1) "Unexpected Meeting"
2) "All Night Conversation"
3) "Breakfast Buddies"
4) "Past, Present, Future"
5) "About Last Night"
6) "Clarification & Coffee"

The next few weeks seem to fly by. Camille and Jakob were officially a couple. The days were filled with flirty texts, all night conversations that either took place on the phone or in person. They were smitten with one another. Everything was going right since the day they started over. Jakob watched Camille as she slept. He woke before her on this early Saturday morning. "She is so cute, even while sleeping. I am so grateful for her, for this." he thought silently. Camille smiles in her sleep and sinks deeper into the pillow. He caresses her face and pushes her hair out of her face. He couldn't help his self. He had to kiss her. It didn't wake her though. They had a late night. He didn't know why he was awake. He slid out of the bed quietly as to not disturb her. Walking into the kitchen, Jakob couldn't help but smile. Things were pretty great in his life. Work and personal. This was what he's always wanted: a woman to share all the good in life with. And, Camille came at a time when he wasn't looking. More than being a great girlfriend, she was his friend, his equal. They could talk about any and every thing and they did. Laughing was something that they often did.

He begin to fix breakfast. Well, his version of breakfast since he wasn't known for his culinary skills. Camille like bagels and strawberry cream cheese and fruit. That made making her breakfast truly easy. And, he was also easy for breakfast too. Brown sugar oatmeal and toast. That's what works for him. He was lucky. Camille was a culinary star. She was actually a caterer in her early 20's. The woman could cook a 5 star meal out of anything. And, she loved to do it. Cooking was now her hobby. She was adventurous in and out of the kitchen. She has been spoiling him with her cooking. He was loving it. So into his thoughts, he didn't hear Camille enter the kitchen. She wrapped her arms around his waist and kissed his back. "Good morning, Baby," she says. "Hey Sweetheart," he replies. She runs her nails across his chest to his stomach while talking to him. "Awww babe, you made my fave? Thanks," she says chuckling. She always jokes with him about his lack of cooking skills.

He takes it like a champ. "Hey, hey, hey, I slaved over this breakfast. She laughs even harder. "I know you did and I'm thankful for it and you." "Let's go eat." Jakob turns around to finally notice what Camille is wearing. She is in one of his white button down shirts, slightly open, completely unbuttoned and nothing else. His eyes roam her body finally reaching her face. She smiles slyly. She says "My breakfast is getting cold, you know." "It seems like someone has something other than breakfast on her mind...coming in here dressed like that." "Jak, let's be honest, I could be dressed in a snowsuit and you'd still want me." He laughed "You're definitely right." "We have all weekend for that. Feed me, Seymour!" she says in a playful tone. "If you want to successfully get through this breakfast, then you need to button up, woman." She buttons the shirt slowly and then sits in the breakfast nook.

The day finds them in the city's museum. Her favorite artist, Frida Kahlo, was being featured and she wanted to show Jak. He was there because she was so enthused about it. He didn't care much for Kahlo but he did for Cami. Walking hand in hand through the museum, both were having so much fun. "This is my favorite piece. It's called 'Two Fridas.' It's so deep and..." Jakob cuts Camille off with a kiss. She couldn't be mad. She wrapped her arms around this beautiful man's neck and kissed him right back. Neither cared that they were in a crowded public place on a Saturday afternoon. Neither of them heard a woman say "Ugh, they need to get a room." But, they wouldn't have cared any way. The two of them continued to kiss until someone coughed behind them. Jak whispers into her ear "I think someone is jealous." Cami laughs as her eyes find the disgruntled woman who was still talking about them. Cami says "Yeah, baby, I think we've definitely ruffled her feathers. You should see how mad she looks." Cami turns her head into Jakob's neck and kisses him. He finally turns around, grabs Camille's hands and begins to walk around the corner to the next display. "Look at her," Cami says. Jakob slowly turns his head and his eyes meet the eyes of a woman he hadn't thought about in months. It was Yasmine and she literally turned colors when she released the PDA man was Jakob.

If looks could kill, Camille and Jakob would no longer exist. Camille's arms were intertwined with Jakob's. She was sort of curled into him. Jakob's body naturally tightened when he saw Yas. Camille felt this and instantly looked up to him. "Jakob, what is it baby?" He looked at her and replied "That woman is my ex. The one who claimed to be my wife." Camille eyes go dark. She looked at Yasmine with venom. Clearly the feeling was mutual between the women. Camille says "Let's just go. She cannot ruin our day." Camille stared Yas down as they turned the corner. "I'm so sorry, Sweetheart. I thought she'd left down or that's what the email said." "Forget about it baby. She isn't an issue between us." Yas hears this as she walks up behind the happy couple. "Hello, Jakob. Can't speak?" The couple turns around. "Yasmine, I have nothing to say to you. Don't you see I'm with my lady. Good bye again." Camille has this smirk on her face that is clearly pissing Yas off. "Who her?" Yas asked. Camille responds "Yes, me. His woman." Jak interrupts "Keep cool, baby. You don't even have to do a thing. I said goodbye Yas." Yas starts talking loudly as the couple walks odd. She follows them out of the museum, still talking. Camille is getting angrier by the second. By the time they reached his car, she was over it. Jakob. opens Camille's door and walks around to his door. Neither of them ever acknowledged Yasmine. They drove off leaving Yasmine yelling to herself on the street. Jakob grabs Camille's hand and kisses it. "You ok?" he asks. She shakes her head yes. Jakob hopes she is as he drives them to their next destination.

The Art of Storytelling: "Clarification & Coffee"

This is part 6 in an on-going series. The rest is available here:

1) "Unexpected Meeting"
2) "All Night Conversation"
3) "Breakfast Buddies"
4) "Past, Present, Future"
5) "About Last Night"

"You are my ex for a reason. That stunt you pulled calling yourself my wife was childish. We are done, have been done for a while. Stay away from me." Yasmine couldn't believe the words she was reading. "Who does Jak think he is? He's done? He doesn't get to decide that." she thought. Yasmine was hurt because Jakob never was harsh with her. This was so unlike him. This was different. And, she didn't like it one bit. "Wow. He sounds serious this time. I think I may have played one game too many with him," she thought. Tears started to flow down her face. She called him and was sent straight to voicemail. "That hurt." she thought. "He is really done with me. He's never ignored my calls or texts before." Yasmine crumbled to the floor sobbing. This is where she stayed for what seemed like hours. She couldn't believe that this was happening to her.

Jakob was in a great mood as he walked into the coffee house. He felt like he'd been given another shot to get this right with Camille. All he had to do was wait for her to show up. As he sat down, his cell vibrated. It was a text from Yas. "I would've been your wife by now. I still have the ring. I'm sorry for saying I was your wife. You'er done? Really? This is how it ends? Who is she? read the text. Jak hit her back with "She isn't you. You aren't my wife. The end came months ago in case you forgot. Have a nice life, Yasmine." The cell vibrated back to back with texts from her. "Have a nice life? Are you serious?" and "Jakob? You can't just ignore me." He was truly done. He couldn't let his past mess up his present. This he was sure of.

He looked up just in time to see Camille walk in. Instantly, they catch each other's eyes and they both smiled. She walked towards him as he rose. "Hi" they both say at the same time. They both laugh, clearly nervous and unsure. Jakob pulls out the chair for Camille to sit then he does as well. Camille begins "Yesterday was crazy. I still have no idea which end is up, Jakob. But, I'm here for you to explain." Jakob clears his throat and launches into a recap of yesterday. He told her all about Yasmine and her drama. He then tells her what he suspects happened when he left the room to get her stuff. "Wow. That is insane! So, you have a possessive crazy ex? That's reassuring," Camille says jokingly. Inside, she was pleased that she decided to hear him out. His story is quite believable. "Unfortunately I guess I do," he says. "Look at this," he says as he hands her his cell. There were now 10 texts total from Yas. Each one more irate than the last. Camille just shook her head. "Crazy."

"So, here we are again in the same spot we meet just two days ago. What now? Can you forgive me for bringing this into your life?" questioned Jakob. Camille stared right into his eyes. She already knew her answer. Crazy ex and all. She was still intrigued by this man. "I cannot condemn him for his past. We've all made silly mistakes." she thought. "Hi, my name is Camille. And you are?" she asked. Jakob chuckled and replied "I'm Jakob. Very nice to meet you as well. Would you like something to drink?" "A chai tea would be heavenly," Camille said. "I'll be right back" Jakob stood at the counter ordering the drinks. He took his cell out & set Yasmine's number to ignore in his contacts and his texts. He was determined to erase her from his current life. Camille wanted to start over and he was glad. Camille watched his back. She wasn't going to jump into this too quickly but she liked him. She couldn't deny that. She was determined to forget about the phone call and his ex. She wanted to live in the now. She wasn't usually that girl. But, now seemed like a great time to start. "Clarification and coffee, indeed" she thought as Jakob walked back to the table with the drinks. Both smiling at the other.

The Art of Storytelling: "About Last Night"

This is part 5 in an on-going series. The rest is available here:

1) "Unexpected Meeting"
2) "All Night Conversation"
3) "Breakfast Buddies"
4) "Past, Present, Future"

Camille lay in bed disgusted and mad. Staring up at the ceiling, she could not believe how drastic the last 24 hours had been. 4:43 glared at her from the digital clock on her armoire. The time was mocking her. She hadn't slept a wink in almost 48 hours. "I cannot believe that I fell for his shit. Why did i think that he would be different? Just because his approach seemed so real. I left myself open to early. I let him and his charming personality in." More than anything, she was mad at herself. "How did I end up here again? I cannot believe that this is really my life right now." she said to herself. The last few hours have been full of turmoil. She's been having so many thoughts about Jakob and his "wife." to say that Camille was pissed was an understatement. She was livid. She hates confrontational females. She had enough of that drama as a teen and young adult. She learned that wasn't who she was. She lived her life differently now. It had been at least a decade since she had been at odds with a woman over a man. This was not how she rolled. Camille knew how women could be and how things could escalate over a man who probably didn't give a damn either way. "All this drama over a man I hardly know is no bueno! Ever." she said. "Great, now I'm talking to myself. This is nuts!!"

Camille wonders "What if there is more to the story? I mean, he talked to me on the phone all night after spending hours with me at the coffee house. Where was his wife then? And, we also spent a couple of hours together for breakfast yesterday. again where was she? I could be setting myself up for the perfect okey doke. But, something about this just doesn't sit right. And he did seem totally caught off-guard by my accusation. What if...I was wrong? What if I was being played by this Yolanda, Yvonne, Yvette...or what ever the hell her name is??" Camille sat straight up in bed at 5:39 a.m. She truly confused. This was only a man she just met. "Why does he have to be so damn fine though? Ugh!!!" Camille decides that she has to know the truth. She has to give him a chance to tell his side. "Hell, what's the worse that can happen?" she ponders. "Ok, I'm going to reach out to Jak later. Whatever happens, happens." she says out loud to no one in particular since she lived alone. Finally, sleep decided to show up. Camille finally slept with thoughts of Jakob on her mind.

Camille awoke rested. She was in a better mood. She silently prayed upon waking. She already knew that today would be a great Sunday. She got out of bed and got herself together for church. She felt so much better than she did last night. "Ok, I've prayed about it and I'm letting it go." she says. She pulls on some dark blue jeans, grey sweater and grey boots. Making up her bed, Jakob crosses her mind for the 5th time this morning. She smiles before she can stop herself. "I'm going to give him a chance to explain this to me." Before leaving for church she sends a text. She leaves for church after putting her cell on silent. "There goes nothing. If it happens, it happens." she thinks.

Jakob was slightly distraught. He had left Camille a message and a text. He did not get a reply from either. He knew that this was probably a lost situation. "What could I say to her to get her to believe me?" he thought. "It's crazy because as a teen I lied my way into a bunch of women's panties. Because I was young and didn't care. This is different though. I haven't been that man in years." he continued to think. He was so angry at Yasmine. So angry that he was seeing red. He would deal with her. "I just met Camille. I could just walk away. It's too early for the drama. And, it's not like we really know each other. Maybe this is what's best." he tried to convince himself. He thought that he could just shake her off. "Yeah, that's what I'll do. Forget about her." he thought. It was settled. He was going to leave well enough alone.

He climbed in bed to get the rest he so desperately needed. He tried to sleep. But it was useless. Jakob tossed and turned all night. Camille invaded his dreams. Her face, her smile, her laugh. The way she pushes her hair behind her right ear when she talks. The way she seemed to stare straight into him. The way she smelled like a sunny day. She was under his skin. Already. Everything about her was tormented him in his sleep. Hours later, he gave up on sleep. His first thought when his eyes opened was "Camille." He shook his head and smiled. "Ok, I get it. I can't shake her not even in my sleep." He got up and went for a run to clear hi head. He put on his jazz playlist on his ipod and set out for his run. Leaving his cell phone behind because he was sure he wouldn't need it. "I have got to get a handle on my life," he thought. "What should he do about Yasmine? She is such a snake and I need to keep her out of my life for good." he thinks. He runs around the park that is located across from his condo. Running and jazz always made him feel better. Back at his house, his cell phone chirps with an incoming text message. it was from Camille. It read ""Jakob, I think we need to talk. Meet me at the coffee house at 1 if you agree. - Camille"

More to come...

The Art of Storytelling: "Past, Present, Future"

This is part 4 in an on-going series. The rest is available here:

1) "Unexpected Meeting"
2) "All Night Conversation"
3) "Breakfast Buddies"

Kissing Yasmine in his doorway felt like old times. She always felt like home to him. She was a drug that he has yet to shake out of his system. Yasmine hand's found their way to her favorite part of him. She stroked him while kissing him. Jakob's hands guided her body further into the house. The kissing continued as the two made their way from the hallway to the sofa. Jakob absentmindedly drops his cell onto the cushion. Yasmine was now straddling Jakob. "I've missed you," she asks. Jakob sat on the sofa looking up into the eyes of the woman who has caused him so much pleasure and pain. Yasmine assuming that she had Jakob back in the palm of her hands began to take off her shirt. There she was in a baby blue lace bra smiling down at Jakob. "He can't say no to me. e's never been able to." she thinks. "Jakob, I need you. You know that you need me too," she says. His body is betraying him as usual. "I see there is one part of you that wants me as much as I want you," she continues.

Jakob knows what he has to do as Camille's smiling face crosses his mind. He looks at her and makes a judgement call. Sliding her off his lap, he says "Yas, I'm not doing this with you. We are done. Have been for a while. I don't know why you haven't gotten this." Yasmine screams "WHAT? What do you mean no? That's not even a word that we use." She is in disbelief and cannot believe what he is saying. Jakob says "Look, I'm done. Been done. As a matter of fact, hold on let me go get your stuff that you left." He goes out to the garage to fetch her boxes. Yasmine is pissed as she puts her shirt back on. She is silently cursing him out in her head. His cell rings after the door shuts. She picks it up to see a text from Camille. "Hey hope you finally slept this morning. I was called into work so I still haven't slept. Thanks for breakfast." This infuriates Yasmine even more. She calls Camille.

"Hello," answers Camille. "Who are you and why are you texting my husband?" yells Yasmine. Camille, caught completely off guard, stutters "Who is this? And, yo-your husband?" "Yes, my husband, Jakob," Yasmine replies. Camille instantly feels sick. so many thoughts running through her head as Yasmine badgers her on the phone. Camille interrupts Yasmine's tirade "Ma'am, I did not know he was married. But, rest assured that I will not be contacting him any more. I have to go." Camille somehow manages to get out before pressing end on the call. Yasmine smiles knowing that she has scared this Camille off. "Jakob is mine. Always has been, always will be. Even if he doesn't know it yet." Yasmine thinks. She erases the text from Camille off of Jak's phone. She thinks "Now, he'll never know." She laughs as he comes back in with two boxes. Jak says "These are yours and you have to go. I need to sleep." "Ok, Jak. But this is not over. I'll let you sleep but I'll be back. Could you bring the boxes out to the car for me, poor favor?" "Fine, let's go." Clearly annoyed, Jak walks her out & puts the boxes in her trunk. She says "Bye Jak. See you soon." as she drives off. Jak believes he is done with the drama that is Yasmine Lopez.

Jakob goes inside, locks up and finally goes to bed. Hours pass before he awakes. He has literally slept the day away. It's 8p.m. when he awakes. "Where is my cell?" he wonders as he searches for it. Finding it on the coffee table in the living room, he checks to see if he missed Camille's call or text. "Hmmm nothing. Maybe she is still asleep." He sends her a short text that reads "Hey Camille. Just getting up. Would love to hear your voice if you're awake." Jak goes about warming up some food as he waits for her response. He is still shaking his head at the craziness of this morning. Glad that it's over, he finishes his dinner. Still no word from Camille. He pours himself a glass of pinot noir. His phone rings and it's Camille calling. He smiles as he answers it. "Hey you" "Hi" she responds very flatly. He picks up on this quickly "What's wrong Camille?" "Why don't you tell me, Jakob? Or well at least tell me your version since your WIFE has already told me hers." Camille says. "My what?? I have never been married. What are you talking about?" he proclaims. Camille is upset and she isn't truly hearing him at this point. "I really thought I had met someone who was cool. But, I was wrong. I am only calling to give you a chance to explain yourself. If you have a wife, what was this all about?" Camille asks. Jakob is racking his brain when he comes to the conclusion: Yasmine. This had her wrote all over it. "Camille, I am not married." "The woman who called me said she was your wife. Your wife, Jak. What am I supposed to think? You know what, it's cool. Do me a favor, don't contact me anymore. Goodbye." Camille says as she ends the call.

Standing under the spray of hot water in the shower with his eyes closed, Jakob sighed deeply. He really could not believe how this day turned out. It started with so much promise. The breakfast with Camille was the perfect start of his day. "How did it all go down hill from there?" "Man, I really messed this up!" he exclaimed. The shower was supposed to calm him down. It wasn't working. He couldn't shake the feeling that his past may have just interrupted his future. Jakob keeps thinking "Yasmine showed up and I should have kicked her out. I didn't. How could I have been some dumb? I knew that she was trouble. Hell, she's always been." Jakob wondered if he would ever get through to Camille. How could he get her to believe him? She was so mad at him and he couldn't blame her. He was angry as hell. But, he had to figure out a way to make this work. He needed to make this right, make it work.

The Art of Storytelling: "Breakfast Buddies"

This is part 3 in an on-going series. The rest is available here:

1) "Unexpected Meeting"
2) "All Night Conversation"

"There he is. He's even cute when sleep deprived," Camille thought as she smiled at Jakob. "Good morning, Cami," he said while reaching in for a hug. "Good morning, Jak," she replied. "She feels so good in my arms and she smells like vanilla" Jak thought. His stomach rumbled & they both laughed.

"Well hopefully you're as hungry as I am." Camille was still laughing but shook her head to agree. They sat & began small talk. He caresses her hand & takes into his while talking. She feels the butterflies at that moment. The waiter came to take their orders. "I want a caramel brĂșlee latte, the breakfast special with scrambled eggs. Oh and no butter on my pancakes please." Camille explained to the waiter. Jak was watching her the whole time. He completed his order all while still holding her hand.

Breakfast was a hit for the two of them. Neither could believe that they had so much in common. Plans were made for the next week before leaving breakfast. Camille yawned & covered her mouth. "Ooh excuse me. I think this no sleeping thing is catching up to me." She said. "I know what you mean. Get some rest. We'll talk later," Jak said. A hug ended the breakfast date. It was a good hug. The kind that you feel long after it was over. They both did. She kissed his smooth brown cheek. "Super soft lips," he thought. "He smells intoxicating," she thought. "We'll talk later tonight ok? Jak questioned. "Oh we will. Bye, Jak." "Bye Cami."

Camille thought about him all the way home. "His voice was like silk. The way he said my name made my stomach flutter. His voice was nice, not too light, not too heavy. He had the cutest, most infectious laugh. Oh God. I was a smitten kitten. Already. In less than 24 hours. This is too much, too fast." she pondered as she drifted off to sleep as soon as her head hot the pillow.

Across town, she was in the thoughts of Jakob. He could not help smiling about the last day of his life. "I def wasn't looking for anyone, especially after the last time. But, Cami is special. I can tell already. She's sweet. Can't wait to get to know her better. Hell, I can't wait to hear her voice again." he thought.

As he was going to sleep, his doorbell chimed loudly. Consistently. Annoyed, he jumped up to go answer it. "Who the hell is at my door so early? And why are they laying on the doorbell?" Snatching the door open, he came face to face with Yasmine, his on-again, off-again ex. The same woman he hadn't seen in almost 7 months. "Hola PapĂ, miss me?" she questioned as she leans in for a kiss. He wanted to fight her but he's never been good at that. His body betrays him. He kisses her back as his hands roam the body he knows so well....

To be continued....

The Art of Storytelling: "All Night Conversation"

This is part 2 in an on-going series. The first part is available here:

1) "Unexpected Meeting"

Jakob watched Camille drive away. The smile on his face appeared to be plastered on. He couldn't shake it. "She is so cool and funny," he thought. He laughed out loud to himself. "Who knew that a trip to the coffeehouse would turn into an all day conversation with her?" he was thinking. Jakob walked back to his car grinning. That same smile carried him all the way to his downtown condo. He actually could not wait to call Camille. But, he didn't want to seem to pressed. So, he cooked dinner and took a shower. The minutes felt like hours to Jakob. He was yearning to hear her voice again. To hear that laugh again. To hear her simply say his name again. He knew he was feeling her too much but he couldn't help it.

At the same time, Camille's thoughts were on Jakob as well. India Aire's "Beautiful Surprise" was blaring from the speakers and she was happily singing along. "It's like yesterday, I didn't even know your name..." Camille had not met a man who genuinely made her smile in a while. She was in a great mood. Arriving at her house, she paused outside on her porch to enjoy the nice night. Her thoughts were all centered on the nice guy Jakob. she wasn't one of those ladies who jumped into anything quickly. But, she had to admit to herself that she liked him. A lot. Getting up to enter her house, she smiled again. Inside, she ate a quick dinner. Pouring a glass of Pinot Grigio, she set out to finish her piece for the magazine. She couldn't concentrate. Jakob had invaded her thoughts. "I wonder when he will call" she pondered. "Or maybe I should call him? or text?" She went back and forth in her mind for a few minutes. She finally concluded that her article wasn't going to write itself.

An hour later, Camille was fine tuning her article when her cell rang. Her heart leaped. She silently prayed that it was Jakob. She picked it up and his name was on her screen. "1, 2, 3, 4, 5" she silently counted to calm herself down. "Hello," she says. The conversation was going the same way it went at the coffeehouse. Jakob telling Camille about his high school ball player days. The stories made her laugh. She told him about her cheer leading past and how much she enjoyed doing it. Their upbringings were similar. Single parent home, multiple siblings and they were both the oldest. The clock read 5:17 am. "We've talked the night away. I haven't done this in years, Jakob," Camille exclaimed. He agreed "Neither have I. But, when you're having a great conversation, who notices the time?" She said "Yeah I know." Tell me more about your family."

Jakob talked about his Mom, sisters and brother with so much love in his voice. "They are my everything. I could not be who I am without them. My sisters think that they are my Mom as well. My brother is my best friend. We're only 11 months apart. He's been my shadow all his life. And, I wouldn't have it any other way." "I can tell how proud you are of them. I hear it in your voice," Camille replied. The sun was rising. Neither of them wanted this call to end. This was evident as the conversation never lulled. Camille did something out of the ordinary. She asked, "Do you want to go grab breakfast with me?" "I'd love that," was Jakob's response. They decided to met at Anita's which was located halfway between their homes in 30 minutes. "I will see you soon, Camille," Jakob said. "Bye, Jakob," Camille said. "Breakfast will be interesting, especially since neither of us has slept," Camille thought as she proceeded to get dressed. She was out the door in 17 minutes flat. She did not want to be late. She did not beat Jakob though. He was waiting for her.

#30in30: The Art of Storytelling: "Unexpected Meeting"

(This is a free-writing experiment. I haven't written a short story in a while. I am going to start this and see where these characters take me. Fingers crossed and prayers sent up for this one. Thanks, in advance, for reading. Hope you enjoy. Comment and let me know! -K)

Camille observed the patrons in the coffeehouse. This was her hobby. She was a people watcher. Had been since she was a little girl. She loved to make up stories about the people around her. Even before she knew it, she was a writer. This hobby had turned into a financially beneficial life for her. Today, she had a block. So, she came to observe and get inspired as she drank her Chai tea. She had a feeling that inspiration would walk through the door at any moment. All she had to do was wait for it. She was doing a free write exercise on the word jolly when he walked in.

Camille raised her head and they caught eyes. His very the color of chocolate and deep as the sea. Hers the color of warm honey and they held a mystery inside. Camille thought he was gorgeous, tall and the exact shade of brown that she was drawn to. He was staring right back at her. He caught on to the fact that neither of them averted their glances. He liked what he saw as well. He was instantly intrigued by the brown lady with the great eyes. She looked comfortable in skinny jeans and tank top and sandals. "Hello Handsome," she thought. Camille smiled at him and went back to her writing. He was still watching her. She could tell. But, she couldn't look up again. She was sure that her face would reveal that she as attracted to him. So, the shy woman decided to play it coyly.

Jakob walked up to her table. "Excuse me," he said. Camille slowly raised her head, smiled and replied "Yes?" He said "I don't mean to interrupt your work. But I couldn't leave here without telling the beautiful woman hello." His smile was radiant. It lit up his whole face and made his eyes dance. Camille liked his face. She blushed at his compliment. "Thank you. I'm Camille Ducre," she says while sticking out her hand. Their hands met as he introduces himself as Jakob Nicholas.

"Can I sit?" he inquired. Camille did not want the conversation to end so she said "Sure." He sat. And, for what seemed like mere minutes, they talked about everything from sports to politics. In actuality, 3 hours had passed. Their drinks were refreshed frequently. They shared a huge blueberry muffin. "I cannot believe how interesting Camille is," Jakob thought. "So, what else do you like, my basketball watching, politics following, spoken word performing artist?" Jake asked with a smile. Camille replied while laughing, "Well, that's about it. I like a little bit of everything. I love to read and I'm adventurous. But, enough about me, tell me more about you, Mr. Nicholas?" "You already know I am a huge sports fan. I love the water. Any time I can spend in it makes me happy. My biggest hobby is that I restore old cars. That makes me happy," he said.

The sun was setting outside. This made both Jakob and Camille realize how late it had become. Neither truly wanted to leave. They were enjoying each other's company. Jakob reached for Camille's hand. He looked her dead in the eye and said, "I have had the best afternoon with you. I'd like to continue this. How about dinner some time?" Camille smiled while saying yes. She asked him for his phone and put her number in. She rose to leave. He did as well. They walked out of PJ's Coffeehouse together. He walked her to her car, opened the door for her and kissed her on her cheek. Jakob said, "I'm going to call to make sure you make it home, Camille." "Oh, I know," she replied. Camille gets into her car smiling inside and out. Jakob watches her as she drives away. Both feeling like the other is definitely someone special.
