It's not very often that two versions of the same song make me happy. Such is the case with the original "Closer" by Goapele and the remix by Drake. Both versions are dope in their own right. I can and do rock with both of them. They are timeless songs in my world. Get into these lyrics and the beat.

Get Into It: "Think Like A Man Too" Soundtrack

In my book, Mary J. Blige can do no wrong. When Mary sings it, you believe it. I have been a fan since the beginning. So, you can only imagine my excitement when I learned that the soundtrack to  "Think Like A Man Too" was essentially a Mary album. From beginning to end, Mary was perfection to my ears. The song I instantly clicked repeat on was "Wonderful." I love the beat and the lyrics and the message. Mary sounds like her old self on it. This soundtrack gets my money simply for Will Packer having the balls to pull a move like this. It seems that he is as much of a Mary fan as I am. Every track is my favorite honestly. Every track evokes a different emotion from me. I listen to it daily. It has an old school R&B/Hip-Hop feel to it. And, that is right up my alley. I love it. This soundtrack, just like the movie, is worth the $$$. Get into it!

Ladies Love Lyrics: Christina Aguilera's "Impossible"

I am a Spotify fanatic. I love it. I listen to it more than Pandora lately. So, this song comes on and stops me short. I've always loved Christina Aguilera's "Impossible." It is my favorite song off her best cd "Stripped" in my opinion. Something about the lyrics hit me deep today. If you've ever been in this situation then you know what it is. Ladies Love Lyrics: BLACKgirl's "Where Did We Go Wrong?"

BLACKgirl was one of my favorite one hit wonder groups. Their debut cd "Treat U Right" was awesome. I still love it. I was writing and listening to an old mixed cd when this song came on. I literally stopped what I was doing to have a full on moment. This was my song. My high school BFF Shay and I played this cd out. We were total fans. So, I had to share a throwback with you guys. Just Because I Felt Like It: Ode To My 2 Favorite Hip-Hop Love Songs

Hip Hop love songs are an unusual thing. They are either really very good or really awful. My favorite two are Method Man/Mary J. Blige's "You're All I Need" and LL Cool J's "I Need Love." Both are hood love songs that I truly dig. Both of them always make me feel happy. Always. I can remember the first time I heard LL's song. I was in the car with my parents. I was enthralled with it and him. And, my favorite memory associated with Meth and Mary's song has to be on night in the HOB with my girl's. The DJ dropped this song at the end of a reggae set. The entire club went crazy. We were in the middle of the dance floor dancing to this song. It was just surreal. It was one of the best nights in a club of my life. We enjoyed every moment. I do not even remember leaving the club.This was really just because I felt like it. These two songs have been on my mind all day. Wanted to share them with you guys. Listen and vibe with me.

I was in a Beyonce' mood. She always makes me feel better. Her shows are always awesome. If you've never been to one, you should def check it out. No one can deny that Beyonce' puts on one helluva show. She can sing, she can dance and she is very engaging on stage. So, here is one of my favorite shows from her. Enjoy.

Get Into It: Jay Z x Barclay's Arena

So, last night, my favorite rapper Jay Z closed out his opening run @ the Barclay's Center. He did 8 shows in 9 days. The concert was awesome. He was his usual wonderful self. And, he brought out his wife, my favorite singer Beyonce. It was live streamed on his youtube channel. Now there is a video. And, yes I watched this again today after watching it live last night. I've seen him a handful of times in concert. I am STILL always excited to see him before. He's simply the best at what he does. I know I'm biased but so what? Anyhow, I found this and wanted to share. Watch and enjoy.

I am a fan of R. Kelly's music. This conflicts me. But I cannot deny that dude can write, produce and sing the hell out of some great music. With that being said, his "Love Letter" cd is just feel good music. I listen to it all the time. My favorite song changes all the time on this cd. Today, I am feeling particular about "Just Can't Get Enough." The track has an old school feel to it and the lyrics just make me happy. The chorus is so catchy and downright infectious. It stays with you. This is a song about never wanting your Love to leave your side. I can relate. It should have been a single. Anyway, check it out below. Enjoy.

So Underrated

There are a lot of "artists" that I just don't get. I do not see or hear their talent. I can however see their lack thereof. The music business is full of a lot of fluff with no substance. I miss real music. Listening to the radio makes me so sad. There is a lack of creativity and deep thought in music. Actually the things I have been hearing mostly is crap. There is no other way to describe it. And, just because its selling does not mean that it is good music. There are a few artist that I will support.

I know that the business is about the "total package" but it seems the "talent" portion of that package is not necessarily a must. I wonder how some of these people even got deals. It's amazing to me that they have blown up. It seems that the "audience"accepts meritocracy as excellence. We are been force fed junk. I don't listen to the radio or watch 106 & Park for this reason. I like discovering new and under appreciated acts. I like to listen to things others haven't heard of yet. The underrated artists will always have my support. I will legally download their work.



I decided to just compose a short list of the artists that I feel are underrated. They don't get the shine they deserve. They produce great music and give great shows. Their record labels seem to not see their full potential. I really don't get it. Obviously, they were talented enough to be signed. But, sometime after that, things changed. I am hoping that the industry takes a major turn. I would love for things to get back to the feel good R&B of the late 80's and 90's or the make you think as well as move Hip Hop of yesteryear. I will keep my fingers crossed for that. Underrated or not, I love the music of these artists. What do you think? Who's underrated to you?

Road Tripping

Road trips can be many things. I cannot remember the last time I was on an extended road trip. I believe it could be a great and fun time if you pick the right company. The best of friends, the best music, and an empty interstate is all that I would need. A really great road trip will provide a lifetime of memories with your favorite people if done correctly. The pictures in this blog sum up my outlooks on road trips.

I haven't been on a pleasure road trip in years. The idea of just packing up and heading out to places unknown excites me. My perfect road trip would consists of a cooler full of Orange G2's and ice, chips and of course the ying to my yang. The music for this road trip would be random. I own a ton of music so it would never run out. Conversation would flow like water, jumping from topic to topic. Days would be spent on the highway while nights would be at some hotel. I would want to immerse myself into the feel of whatever city I was in. Try the food, sip the drinks, and just enjoy the city.



I would prefer to drive to and through states I haven't visited before. We would stop in little cities that have a small town appeal. I'd drag my companions to museums and antique shops. I have an obsession with state keychains and shot glasses. I'd make sure to purchase these in each state. Oh, and postcards are great keepsakes as well. I like to remember everything. I would also take a load of pictures, in the car, on the road and wherever we would stop.

Where would you road trip to? Who would you take with you? I know that I would def go with my baby. I also think a girls road trip would be awesome. I don't have a specific destination. Just a plan to get up and go. That sounds like just about the best thing. Road trips can be planned down to the last second or they can be spontaneous. I prefer the latter. An open road and an open mind are the best two accessories to a brillant road trip. Let's go!!

Get Into It : Beyonce' "4"

I have to preface this post by saying I'm a Beyonce fan. I can't deny that. I preordered her new cd "4" well over a month ago. I was excited to hear new music from her. I only mildly liked her first single "Who Run The World (Girls)" which didn't surprise me. I've never liked a Beyonce first single the first few times I've heard it. But, her cd's are always a complete experience. I define a great cd by one simple fact: if I can listen to it straight through. That's a rare feat in the music industry today. "4" did not disappoint!

Beyonce simply singing a love song is a wonderful thing. She does just that on a few songs. They are some of my favorite tracks on the cd. "Rather Die Young," "1+1," "End Of Time," "Start Over," and "Love On Top" are all sweet odes to different levels of love. In "Rather Die Young," she sings about loving a man so deeply that she wouldn't want to live without him. The lyrics are touching to me. "End Of Time" and "Love On Top" are more mid-tempo love songs. I liked that the sound and feel of these two particular love songs are different than normal ones. Each love song takes the listener on a journey. Anyone who's ever been in love can relate to these songs.

She also dives into some heartbreak songs. "I Care" is the epitome of loving someone who doesn't love you back. The lyrics are so relatable. It's a really raw song to me. "I Miss You" sounds more like her love isn't too far away. But it could also be interpreted as a song about what one feels after a breakup. "Best Things I Never Had" is the ultimate middle finger to an ex song. It's brash and in your face. She sings "thank God you blew it, thank God I dodged a bullet." If those lyrics don't hurt like hell, you might need to check your pulse. Beyonce does know how to give women an empowerment song though. I mean "Irreplaceable," "Independent Women," and "Single Ladies" are all testaments of that.

There are also some party/club tracks as well. "Party" featuring Andre 3000 is the ultimate summer jam. I've loved it since the first time I heard it a few weeks ago. The music is the perfect fit to the lyrics. Beyonce's voice is golden on this track as is the 16 by 3Stacks. The only weak note on the whole song is Kanye rapping about "swagu." I love Ye but no sir. "Countdown" is another love song but its more suited to the party scene. The chorus is cute and very catchy. I'm sure it will get a lot of play.

The pinnacle song on "4" is the Diane Warren penned "I Was Here." This is huge song. Beyonce belts it out too. She does not over-sing it. Her voice and tone are so on point. The lyrics are deep. I love this track so much. The last track is "Who Run The World (Girls)" I'm honestly glad that this song is last. It does not fit in with the rest of the tracks in my opinion. It's high tempo where the rest of the cd is mellow. I liked the video and loved her Billboard performance so much. They both made me like the song more.

Lucky me, my copy of this cd showed up a day early. I was uber excited about that. I really enjoyed every track on the cd. I will be playing it at loud levels for a while. It's just feel good music from an artist that can actually sing and dance and perform. Beyonce's a true artist and she will always get my $$ when she's dropping new music. I just always know beforehand that I'm going to enjoy it and that it will be good. Get into it: Beyonce "4"

Throwback

I heard this today and it brought me back. I've always loved this song and it always makes me feel good. I think that music scene today is mising some of the heart and soul of music from the 80's and 90's. Anyway, feel free to vibe out with me :) Troop "Spread My Wings"

Get Into It: KING

They are KING. I am thankful for Twitter and following certain folks who put me up on this incredible group. One night about a month ago, Questo of The Roots gave them a co-sign as did Talib Kweli. So I followed the links to see what was up. I was intrigued. This group had just released their 3 song EP. It was $2.99 on Amazon. I bought it and listened as soon as the mp3 download was finished. I was a fan from the opening chords of "Hey." It's just feel good music to me."Hey" is my favorite. It puts me in the mind of Floetry. Erykah Badu is a huge fan of KING as well. These women have it. I love their harmonies, their voices, theri lyrics and music. I am so excited to hear what they release next. I have included their three songs. They are "Hey," "Supernatural," and "The Story." All three different but equally great. Get Into KING!!!
