I said I wouldn't blog about this issue. wouldn't take time to discuss a "celeb" that I don't see it for. But, then the above picture found its way to every social media site I frequent. And, it pissed me off for so many reasons. If you've been living under a rock, then you missed the announcement via Kanye West at his concert that Kim was his baby mama. Yes, she's pregnant. Babies are a blessing. I will not say anything about that. But, let's discuss the huge purple elephant in the room. Kim is still legally married to Kris Humphries and is pregnant for Kanye West. That is very messy. And, just wrong. So that meme above pissed me off because it's like because she has money her unsavory behavior should be overlooked. No. Let's call a thing a thing. I've never called her a whore because I honestly do not think she is. She is famous for no real reason. She has no personality and she just irks me. Oh and the "Ya'll hoes" shit was uncalled for. And, I don't know any female who had 3 kids by 17 fyi. Also, putting down other to uphold someone else defeats the purpose.
If Kim was Keisha from around the way in the same predicament, the same men I've seen caping for Kim would be dogging Keisha. That is the hypocrisy I despise. The comments that I've read about the Kimye baby have run the rainbow from positive to negative. My opinion is not about judging her. The facts are still the facts no matter who you are. And, when you chose to live your life in front of the world via a reality show and reality stunts then you get what you get. I'm just saying if I was a married woman going through a divorce the one thing I wouldn't do is get pregnant for my boyfriend. I mean that's the least I could do is close one door before walking through the next one. It's entirely too messy for my taste. Also, everything about this situation screams "Publicity stunt." Her new show is about to premiere. She did the same thing with that farce of a wedding right before the show premiered. See a pattern here? There is nothing authentic about the chick. I just want men, especially Black men, to stop upholding bullshit when it comes from white women. Just quit it. Wrong is wrong. End of discussion. I will not write about this again. I can't.
The old saying goes that you don't poke a sleeping bear. That was the first thing that came to my mind when I read the Twitter feud between Chris Brown and a virtually unknown to me comedic writer named Jenny Johnson. This post is not about Brown's character or his domestic violence past. I am not hear to discuss all of that. However, I will say that no man should put his hands on no woman. I do not support that at all. Because if a man ever gets the misguided notion to raise his hands to me, it will not end well. I will not stand for that. Ever. Now, that I've gotten that out of the way, let's discuss. Johnson has been poking Brown for years on Twitter. I've read so many tweets that Brown should just brush it off. That as a celeb, he should have tougher skin. I disagree. He is human first and foremost. Someone say awful things to you constantly would get to any one. That is the reality.
What happened next was vile. Brown reacted to her tweets. He was disrespectful and gross and rude. Johnson was rude, ignorant and got the response that she clearly has been pushing for. They are both wrong. She is too old to be bullying a kid. Yes, he is a kid under her. She has to know better. I took a look at her Twitter feed. For a comedic writer, she isn't funny in the least. Not one tweet made me giggle. She seems to be very mean spirited and unhappy in general. Brown knows that all eyes are on him. There are certain folks who are just waiting for him to screw up again. He keeps falling into the trap. He keeps doing exactly what he doesn't need to. He was punished for his crime. His victim has clearly forgiven him. It is not up to the public to persecute him. But, many still do. We, as a people, are wholly too judgmental.
It bothers me to think that if this comedic writer was a Black woman, the mainstream media would not have been so quick to defend her. Jenny Johnson is NOT the victim here. For over 2 years, she bullied Brown, antagonized him. Almost daily, she had something negative to tweet to him. Her anger at him seems misplaced and out of line. She was not his victim. The bottom line is that both Johnson and Brown were wrong. Both were disrespectful. Both should walk away from Twitter. Brown deleted his Twitter. I think Johnson should follow suit. People go to far. Both of them did. It was really horrible to read. I cannot believe that this was an interaction between a guy in his early 20's and a woman who has to be in her late 40's. To quote Rihanna, "we have got to do better."
It's normal to develop crushes on people especially celebs. I have a few. So does my guy. We've discussed them in depth. While having a conversation with my HIM today, an interesting topic came up. That idea if the day ever arrived that he met his crush, he would have a "pass." For those who aren't familiar, a pass is like me giving my ok for him to be with this actress. What followed was an hilarious conversation about limits, rules and regulations. There was a lot of laughing during this conversation. I began to think about how I truly, deeply felt about the idea. I came to an interesting conclusion.
He has a thing for a few celebs but this one certain actress in particular. I know this. If I see pictures of her, I post them on Tumblr for him. So, you can say, in a way I indulge his crush. I think it's cute. I told him that for this particular actress, I would have to give him a pass. For those that don't know, a pass is like me giving my ok for him to be with this actress. He said that I wouldn't be ok with it. That I would be hurt if by some chance he meet her & had sex with her. I said it for one reason and one reason alone. The probability of him meeting her is slim to none. I would love to believe that I'm so evolved that I would be able to handle a situation like this.
The truth of the matter is I think he's right. I'm too selfish and spoiled. He's mine. Not in the "I own him" kind of way but more in the "he's mine." I know myself well enough to know that even the thought of him being with someone else makes me see red. I cannot even comprehend that. Even if the woman is a celeb. She is still a woman. And, I don't want any woman with my man but me. It's funny because when I gave him the "pass" I believed I could do it. But I was wrong. He made it perfectly clear that he would not be giving me a pass for either of the two actors I have a crush on. He did not laugh at all. His jealousy is cute. He is just like me. We do not want to share. I'm more than ok with that.
Clearly, there will be no passes given in this relationship. Neither of us are ok with it. Let me just say that if I ever meet one Idris Elba, I will refrain from flirting with him. I'll try my best not to get caught up in his sexy accent. I wouldn't want HIM to give me the cold shoulder. I know that celebs are just human beings like the rest of them. Why would I want to mess up my great thing for one night? That question alone puts it all into perspective for me. Passes may be cool for some. But we aren't in that number. Has anyone ever being given a pass? Would you give one? Let's discuss.
Before I even knew it, I was a Poet. Writing poetry was my introduction to the world that I would always claim as my own. Imagine my surprise and utter glee when I saw the commercials for HBO's "Def Poetry." The poet in me could not wait. I made sure that I was always in front of a television when it was on. I ate it up. I almost always loved every poet. I loved the way that poetry connects all people. The show was a hit in my mind. I was so sad when it just disappeared from HBO with no warning.
Def Poetry was one of the best things on tv. I loved seeing my passion manifested on tv. I never missed an episode. I love that there were normal people on the show. One of the good things about this show was the celebrities that came to do spoken word. I was watching Floetry's appearance on it via youtube. That inspired this post. It's just my favorite celebs on one of my favorite shows. I really wish this show would come back. It was too good to just be over. Enjoy the videos and poems below. I still am!

I remember when I first heard of Twitter. I joined that same day. My first celebrity follow was Solange. I've never regretted that follow. I was already a fan. Twitter made me like her more. That's the way it is with Twitter. It can make you love a celebrity or hate them. It gives you so much access to them. Too much access is clearly a bad thing. I so long for the days when celebrities were an anomaly. I want those days back. I've decided to unfollow most celebs that I like I was order to save that feeling.
When I say that Twitter killed the celebrity, I mean their image. Before Twitter, I was a huge fan of Tyrese. Dude was gorgeous with his chocolate brown skin, inviting smile, and voice of an angel. I loved his music and his films. And, then I made the fatal mistake of following him. I realized that dude was an idiot who couldn't spell to save his life. Oh and he fancies himself a relationship guru. This would be fine if he was in successful relationship/marriage. But he isn't. I can no longer take him serious. So I had to unfollow him. He isn't the only one. There are the celebs who cannot spell or speak correct English or they retweet every compliment tweeted their way. It's beyond annoying and kind of narcissistic. Erykah Badu, Diddy, Jay Electronica, Toya Wright, and Keyshia Cole all fall into that category as well.
I love the interaction that Twitter allows. It's a great social media tool. But, like every thing else, it has its down falls. You gotta take the good with the bad. It takes a while to get a feel of who a celebrity really is. Twitter can also make you a fan of someone that you weren't before. I know I love Rihanna on Twitter. She is hilarious. She is a great follow. But, for some celebrities, Twitter will be their demise. It's inevitable. It will continue to be interesting to witness. Stay tuned.
Remember the days of actual talented celebrities? It seems like so long ago. In 2010, we are handed a bunch of faux celebrities. People, mainly women, who have no real talent but everyone knows their names. You guys know who I'm speaking of. Folks such as Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian & her family, Superhead, Kat Stacks, Tiger woods' mistresses, and Jesse James' mistresses. Women who've used sex and sex tapes to garner their faux fame. When did this become the norm? Why are these people featured on magazines and talk shows and the like?
I swear I wish I had never head of none of these people. They are seemingly simple and vapid people. But, also kinda smart. They used what they had to get the fame, notoriety, and money. The public eats it up. I refuse to indulge in the simplicity. My mind cannot wrap itself around the fact that this is real life. We've become so caught up in the fakness that reality has become lost. Reality tv isn't real life. I want movie & tv stars back. Actual, real life people with God given talent. I do like some reality tv shows. But, I'm not a fan of these people. I don't wanna see them on my tv, on the computer and on magazines week in and week out.
Truth be told, I don't see this trend ending any time soon. The public is too caught up in the fascination of it all. I don't support this. I just can't. My intelligence won't let me. I know where I will and won't spend my money. I know what I will watch and won't watch. Everyone else can keep and idolize these faux celebs. I'll be late for that (c @brookandthecity) lol.
