I'm Back!!!

Guess who's back?? It's me :-) In the words of Varnell Hill, "DID YOU MISS ME??" I've missed you guys. I've missed this space. I would just chcek my blog all the time. I didn't think I would miss it so much. It is a prt of me. This break was truly needed. I could not be more prouder of the work I've done here.

I've missed blogging. I needed the time off in September. But, I am ready to get right back into it. I won't promise to post everyday but a few times a week will definetly happen. My mind is very clear about some things, not so much about others. But, I am ready to get back to work. So, hope you guys will be back to read my words  soon.

Also, it's October and it is Breast Cancer Awareness month. It is a cause that has always been dear to me. My family has been affected by it. So, I always like to bring awareness to the cause. I will wear pink unitl there is a cure. Donate to a BCA fund, participate in a BCA walk, just do something. We need a cure.

On a much sadder note, there has been another case of being murdered for simply being Black. Jonathan Ferrell was a former FAMU football player. He was in a horrific car accident that he survived. He knocked on doors to get help. One woman thought he was trying to break into her house so she called the cops. The cop who showed up fired 12 shots at Ferrell. Ten of those shots hit Ferrell. Jonathan Ferrell died on September 16th at the age of 24. Why? Why is this young man dead? No one can explain it to me. No one can make me believe that the cop was anything other than overzealous, trigger happy and a racist. He saw a Black man and unloaded his clip. Jonathan Ferrell deserves justice. What he deserves even more is to have the cops protect and serve everyone and not just white people and he deserves to still be alive. God help us all.

Today, My Blog Turns 3!!

It's been three years. Three long years since I embarked on this blogging adventure. A lot has changed in that time. I've felt a lot of emotions. Many of them have prevented me from writing the way I wanted to. I set out to find my writing voice and I have. I know exactly what I want to portray here. I just want to write my truth. That's what my blog allows me to do. When things are great and happy, I blog.  When things aren's so great and less than happy, I blog. It's a form of therapy for me. I need to write. It helps me. And, hopefully, it helps someon reading this blog. Three years of pouring my heart out here and I couldn't be more prouder of myself. My life may not be exactly what I thought it would be right now but my blog is. This is my writing baby. It puts a smile on my heart everytime I read my work. I am thankful for this space, especailly this year. Thank you for reading my work.

Life of a Writer

“We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect.”
- Anaïs Nin

Writers are extremely creative people. This is also the gift and the curse. I believe that artists feel things more deeply than other people do. I know that I feel things very deeply. I sit with them for longer than I should, I worry about them much more than I should. This is just who I am. Just what my life is. I am a writer. I have been since at least the 3rd grade. It has been the thing I've most valued about myself. But, it's also the thing that drives me crazy. Whatever I am feeling or dealing with invades every aspect of my thinking. When I sit down to write, no matter the subject, I will end up writing about my current state of mind. This is fine if and only if I am writing for myself. But, when I am attempting to blog, this is a nuisance. I write about the exact thing I would rather not talk about. It makes my blogs sad and angry. And, I do not like to project those feelings into the universe. So, this makes it hard to blog daily. But, I write and write until I can get around my issue. I wonder if this is common for other writers? If they too deal with this stumbling block. I don't like it but I can't shake it. I guess it's just the creative process I have to go through to get to the good stuff. It's hard but worth it. So, here I sit, writing about anything but the topic at hand until the words find me. I have learned that this takes time. And, sometimes the words don't ever show up. Then, I just stop and start over the next day. It's what writers do. It's what I do.

My Personal Best Blogs Of The Year

Hey guys! Just wanted to share my best viewed blogs of 2012. I love watching the numbers rise on my blogs. It truly makes this writer beyond happy. This year alone I posted 381 times! That is insane. I can't believe I did it. Ok, this is my end of the year wrap up. Get into it!!

° - My "Soul Mates" post was a huge hit. It garnered 2,179 views!

° - I fell for the lyrics of a great song. I wrote about Nikki Leonti's "The Walk" and it got 1,117 hits.

° - Karma is a topic I ponder often. I did so here and folks were reading. It was viewed 654 times.

° - Hair is a huge topic, specially for Black women. I started my natural hair journey almost 15 months ago. I wrote a review on Cantu products. It received 400 hits.

° - We are all familiar with our comfort zones. I blogged about the topic and folks were watching. 396 people to be exact.

I am beyond thankful for everyone of you for visiting my blog, reading my words and coming back. Ridiculously thankful for the readers who take the time out to comment and engage conversation. I do not know why you came but I am thankful for you. I put my heart into my words here. And, to have people embrace that brings me to tears. So, I just wanted to take the timeout to say thanks. 2012 has been a hell of a year, writing/blogging wise for me. Cannot even begin to imagine what 2013 will inspire. Happy New Year's Eve!!!

#30in30: Ok, I Did It!

One year ago today, I wrote this. Little did I know that it would be the beginning of a year long goal. I have blogged consecutively for one year straight. That is huge for me. I gave myself a goal and I stuck to it. Let me just say that this was not easy at all. There were some nights where I had no clue of what to write about or if I would even be able to do it. I persevered and that is what matters the most. I never could have imagined that when I started this blog with this one post that I would still be here writing my heart out. It's been a little over 2 years since I began blogging. It's been a great experience. I love writing and blogging has helped me to sharpen my skills. This is more of a personal celebration for me. I am thankful for this space.

Writing has always come easy to me. It's been my thing for as long as I can remember. My Mom says I would make up stories about my dolls and my imaginary friend. I've been blessed with the gift of imagination and writing. Writing brings me a sense of calm that I can't really explain. Some people are good with numbers, others with electronics, but I've always had a way with words. I'm thankful for my blog. It's my writing outlet. It's my place to get all these thoughts out into the world wide cyber universe. It's been one long year. I've written when I was happy, excited, mad, hurt, sad and confused. I've written through it all. That's perseverance. This is my reward. Ok, let me get back to blogging and my next writing goal. I plan to finish the year strong. Blogging daily. I have my fingers crossed that I can accomplish this. Thanks to all of you for reading.

“If you do not breathe through writing, if you do not cry out in writing, or sing in writing, then don’t write” —Anais Nin

It's My 2nd (Blog) Birthday!!!

Two years!! Wow!! I am so excited about this. Today marks the second birthday of my blog. I have poured my heart and soul into my words here. It has not always been easy but it has always been worth it. I have posted over 600 blogs on various topics. All of them meant something to me. All of them made me feel something. This blog has helped me through a few rough patches in my life. It has been my salvation in a way. I can only imagine what I will write about next. I just know that I will do it here on my little piece of the world wide web. Writing has been my passion since I was in the 4th grade. Being able to create in such a way as this has given me happiness I cannot even describe.

Every day, so far, this year I have been able to stick to my daily blogging goal. Hell, there were even some days that I posted two blogs a day. This is a huge accomplishment for me. I think that personal blogs are much harder to maintain than entertainment/gossip blogs. I write about music, poetry, literature, politics, television amongst other things. Then, there is the overwhelming helping of my own life that I lay bare here. I am so appreciative for all of the people who have visited my blog, read my stories, and commented. You make this worthwhile for me. Knowing that someone, some where, is reading my words makes my soul happy. I will forever chase that feeling. So, happy birthday to me and my blog!! See you next year as we turn three!!

Blogging Is...

Blogging is a great outlet. Being that this is a personal blog, I fight one major battle daily. How much is too much? Where do I draw the line? I walk the fine line of when not to over share. This is my place to discuss my feelings on the world, music, books, life, love, relationships and family. I've touched on a lot of these issues. Sometimes I write things that I feel are too personal to share in this space. I love the freedom that blogging allows me in my writing. I can vent or rant or praise anything here. It's what makes me happy.

I would never want to write something that I wasn't proud of here. I have posted about topics that have been difficult for me. But I felt that I needed to tackle them here. I try to not write about my family in detail because they did not ask for their lives to be put on display. The same goes for my Love and my friends. I wrote an awesome blog that I feel is too centered on one person in my life. I realize that I have to protect certain parts of my life in this space. I think that comes with the territory though. I just felt the need to discuss this. I wonder if other bloggers/writers struggle with this fine line as well. I love my blog. It's been a labor of love for almost 2 years now. I will continue to write what's on my heart and mind. That will never change. I have to write what I know.

My Major Blogging Milestone

This is my 300th blog post. Wow! This is a significant feat for me. I'm so excited for me. I started this blog a little over a year ago. I never dreamed then that I would be here now. This blog is like my baby. I've poured my heart into my words. I just feel like there is someone somewhere reading my blog and identifying with what I've been through. This blog connects me to people I may never meet. That, to me, is an incredible thing. Writing opens up this avenue for me.

Blogging has become therapeutic for me. I didn't realize how much I needed this outlet. Writing has been my passion since the 4th grade. I am just really good at expressing myself through words or painting a picture through them. I will continue to do so. I am always so excited when I post something here. I look forward to seeing my words in print. It's like a natural high for me. I look forward to the next 300 posts. So, stick around for everything else that may fall in between.

I'm Back!!! (Kinda)

I have neglected my blog. This summer hasn't been anything like I expected it to be. I lost my joy for writing for a while. I just couldn't focus enough to make it happen. It was a strange feeling that I couldn't shake for a while. I think that I am ready to try again. Even if what I write is crap. The writer in me knows that I need to write. So, I'm back at it. I cannot say that I am committing myself to writing everyday as I was earlier this year. That may be too big of a feat for me right now. I am just going to write when and if the inspiration hits me. I promise not to stay gone so long in the future. These are just all the thoughts that have been clouding my mind.

One Year Later..

It's my Blogaversay! One year ago, I decided to find an outlet for my writing. That is how this blog was born. I felt that I had something the world wide web should hear. My blog has been, for the most part, my solace. It's where I come to work out things, rant about things, wax philosophically and poetically about my opinions. It's helped me through some rough patches. I love how freeing the written word can be. I am a writer. It is the one consistent aspect of my entire life. Writing frees me. It gives me life and hope.

At the beginning of the 2011, I pledged to blog every day. For the first six months, I was able to blog almost every day. That made me proud. Unfortunately, since June, I've been slacking. I feel really bad about that. But, my head hasn't been in the best place lately. I'm just not motivated to blog. There is something preventing me from creating. I'm trying to work through this intense writers block. I hope to be back to my normal blogging self.

Looking back, I can remember the exact space I was in when I wrote and posted each piece. I have laughed so much at myself this past year. My own words give me insight into myself. This blog has gifted me with that. Before, I could only get that level of deep insight from my poetry. I found myself uninspired to write for a while. Starting my blog forced me to be my true self. I love that about it. I plan to write more in the coming weeks. I'm sure I will get political in tone soon because of the state of things. I'm just really proud of myself for sticking to this. I'm also grateful for all who visit my blog. You are appreciated. I'm looking forward to my 2nd year Blogaversay!!! Stay tuned and keep reading. All comments are welcomed!

P.S. - I will take any opportunity to post this classic Tony Toni Tone' track. I love it still.

I also made a minor changes. My web address has changed from "lovemsk.blogspot.com" to "inbtweenthoughts.blogspot.com." So, now my blog title and web addy match.

These Are Just My Thoughts

I've been a blog reader for a few years now. I like to read and see others perspectives on life. It gives me something to think about. I believe that it takes a brave and/or fearless soul to be a blogger. One is essentially laying their soul bare for the entire world wide web. That takes guts. I commend every one who has dived into this arena. I know of a few women who have just recently started blogs (Joey, Kimmie, & Diya) and a few who've been here for a minute (Drenna, Nikki). Blogging opens up a whole new world to those who write them as well as those who read them.

I blog just to get these words out of me. I'm writing because I have to. Need to. Want to. Even if i wasn't blogging, I would be writing something, somewhere. Because it is what I think I was meant to do in this life. I decided that I would be as open and as true to myself as I could be with my intended audience and myself. I have no issue expressing my opinions in any thing. That's never been a problem. It's a little harder for me to show my heart. But since starting this particular blog, I've gotten much better at that. Every blog I post, I'm giving you me. All of me. All the time.

I've noticed a trait in other blogs that I will never engage in. Deleting blogs. I don't get that. I won't do that. If I wrote it and posted it, I'm standing by my words. I'm always nervous about expressing my heart. That is right up until I hit the "publish post" button. Once its up, it's up. For better or for worse, my words are out there. I stand by them. They may not always be pretty or politically correct or even what you might expect from me. But they are my words. I don't get why someone would delete a post that's already been read by folks. But I guess to each his own right?

We all write for different varied reasons. I read others blogs and comment because I like to let people know I was there. I'm never ashamed or apologetic about my words. I can't be. I blog from my heart. Good, bad or indifferent, I write what I feel. I feel what I write. I can only give you me. Sometimes blogging helps me work through things in my own life. And, sometimes there are others going through the same exact situations. Life is funny that way. What are your feelings about blogs? What blogs are you reading? Talk to me & let me know!
