It's My Hair: Straight Hair Don't Care

I've been a very good naturalista for the last few months. I've spent more time on my hair. I deep conditioned often. I gave myself hot oil treatments and clipped my ends regularly. I avoided heat like a former friend who did me wrong. I've had a lot of fun playing with my hair. I am still very partial to a braid out or a bantu knot out. I combat "bad hair days" (aka days when my hair didn't dry all the way or the style didn't come out quite right) with buns. And, then came the day that I got bored with my hair. So, I did something I haven't done in over 6 months. I decided to flat iron my hair. *gasp* I know I was shocked too. This was an adventure to say the least.

I started by rubbing my whipped shea butter mix throughout my hair. My homemade shea butter mix is shea butter, grapeseed oil, a little vitamin e oil, and glycerin. It is my favorite thing to use in my hair. Then I sprayed my hair with Fructis Flat Iron Heat Protector. I proceeded to spend the next almost 2 hours straightening my kinky, coily tresses. When it was finally straight, I couldn't believe how long it was. I haven't truly seen the length of my hair in at least a year. I also clipped my ends. I then decided to take it one step further and curled my hair. I wanted a full, bouncy look. That is exactly what I ended up with. My hair was so thick and pretty once I was done. I was more than satisfied with my results. It's been two days and I still cannot stop touching my hair. I have been pin-curling it at night to keep my roots straight and my ends curled. I am not sure how long I will keep it this way but I really like it. I probably won't use heat on my hair until the end of the year. This luxurious look is a winner. Get into my tresses, people!!

It's My Hair: 2 Years Strong!!

Started from the bottom, now I'm here. A year ago, I was excited to reach this milestone. A year later, I couldn't be happier with my hair's progression. It's been two interesting years on this natural hair journey. I started with just a thought, an inkling of an idea. I did not know what my hair would appear or the texture of it. In the beginning, I was just interested in stretching my relaxers. I was so used to that 6 - 8 week trek to the hair shop for the creamy crack. My hair wasn't unhealthy or breaking off prior to the change. I just wanted something different. I have always had a head full of thick hair. It's the gift and the curse. But, it's all mine and I love it. My natural hair journey has been relatively stress free. Except for earlier this year, I experienced some hair loss due to stress.

So, for my two year natural hair anniversary, I wanted to try a new look. I was going for Naptural85's Seductive Tousled look. You can watch her tutorial video on her YouTube channel. I started with flat ironed hair from a prior blowout. I separated my hair into six sections. I sprayed each section with my water/glycerin mix lightly. I rubbed my shea butter/oils mix into my hair. I then twisted each section from the roots to the tips. Finally I wrapped the twists into bantu knots. I secured each knot a bobby pin. Very simple and easy to do. I lightly misted the water over my hair again. And, finally I sprayed my hair with some oil sheen and tied it down with my silk scarf. The next morning, I put a little grapeseed oil on my fingers and untwisted my hair. I shook my head and fluffed my hair with my fingers. I was ready for my day. I really liked my hair. The style lasted a few days. I retwisted and re-Bantu knotted my hair nightly. Great style for any natural hair woman. Two years went by with the blink of an eye. I am so excited to see what happens next for me and my hair.

Get Into It: Issa Rae Presents "Roomieloverfriends"

You guys know Issa Rae right? Of Awkward Black Girl fame? Ok, cool. then you should also be up on her new Youtube series "Roomieloverfriends." It is a hilarious look at what happens when a man and a woman live as roommates and they cross the line. The main characters are Tamiko and Jayson. Jayson moves into Tamiko's house as only her roommate. One night, the roommates turned friends end up becoming lovers. We all know that drama will follow this. It's hilarious to me because I've never lived with a man who was a stranger or just a friend. This is a foreign concept and idea to me. I really enjoy this series. The actors are great as is the material. I love finding these little gems. The episodes are short as per the normal for web series. But, they pack a lot into them. I am sure you guys will love it as well. If you do, subscribe to the Issa Rae's Youtube channel. You will also get the ABG series and her "Ratchet Piece Theater" videos as well. Also, all worth a look. Go ahead and get into this series. I've included the first four episodes below. Watch and enjoy.

Oh, on another huge note for Issa Rae, she has just sold a show to ABC. It is called "I Hate L.A. Dudes" a comedy about a lone female voice of a popular male dominated internet radio show. The show is being backed by Shonda Rhimes ("Grey's Anatomy," "Scandal," & "Private Practice") and her company. If you do not know, Rhimes is big business and this is a great move for Rae. This will be Rhimes' first time venturing into comedy because all of her other shows are dramas. I cannot wait to see what they do with this. I am so happy for Issa Rae. She deserves this because she is extremely talented. Keep your eyes peeled for this as well.

Pink and Girly Moment

A woman in love is quite a beautiful creature. She glows. Everything in her life is brighter, better. I'm starting to realize something about myself. I'm a totally different me now that I'm in love. I know that it shouldn't surprise me. But it does. Things that would even matter to me before matter so much more now. I care about everything concerning my Love.

In love, I'm more possessive than I've ever been. Maybe it's because I know that he's mine and I'm his. I don't flirt because I don't need to. I'm slow to respond to the random texts from men I used to know, used to date. I'm quick to send those calls to voicemail. They know me. I'm a respectful chick. When I'm in a relationship, I demand that everyone in my life respects it. With HIM, it's so much deeper. I don't feel the need to keep in touch with folks. Because where I am right now is so much more important. We're building towards a future.

Everything in the world is still the same yet I'm completely brand new. How wonderful is that? I can't truly describe it. Its just amazing what true real love feels like. His love is all encompassing. He holds my heart in his hand and vice versa. Because of love, I'm a changed woman. I can only hope that my love affects him the same way. I'm up late or early feeling all extra girly and pink. This is what's on my heart right now. So, I decided to share it with you.
