Around the E-Streets (XVI)

  • Bill Cosby doesn't get that he is no longer seen as the Cosby of yesterday. He decided to challenge Twitter to meme him with the hashtag #Cosbymeme. This article made me laugh.
  • Diem Brown of MTV Real World/Road Rules Challenge fame has died at the age of 32. I always liked her on the shows. She succumbed to her third bout of cancer.
  • This week's episode of "Scandal" was one of the best ever. Olivia got out-Poped by Papa Pope. Things are getting very interesting.
  • Street harassment is a REAL thing. Women are being killed for simply NOT talking to strangers on the street. Where is the justice in that?
  • Could someone please get one Piers Morgan all the way out of the paint please? He decided to write an article about the n-word. I won't link to it, but here's a rebuttal article that's worlds better. Here's a clue, Piers, we (Black people), do not need any words from a white man on the subject.

  • TIME magazine thinks that the word "feminist" should be banned. It's among a group of words that the writers at TIME thinks are one of the worst words of 2014. There is something inherently wrong with this.
  • I have just gotten into one of the most captivating podcast. It's "Serial." And, it's a week by week look at a murder case. It's so good.
  • BET has made the decision to cancel "106 & Park." The powers that be have decided to move the show into a digital only setting. I don't think this is a good idea. The final televised show will be December 19th. Farewell 106.
  • A Minneapolis Superintendent, Ms. Bernadeia Johnson, has implemented a new policy. After learning that Black students are suspended 10 times more often than white children, she decided a change needed to occur. She now "requires that all schools must obtain permission from her office for all non-violent suspensions of non-White students." I think this is a great move.
  • The N.O.P.D. stays messing up. They've been known for it for decades. But, this story of mishandling rape kits, victims and cases is reprehensible.

Around the E-Streets (XV)

  • It's been 36 days and Mike Brown's killer Darren Wilson is still free. He has not been seen since August 9th. Why Lawd?! Fix It Jesus!! Protesters are still calling for the cop to be arrested as is the rest of the world.
  • Vogue wrote a bullshit article creating white women with this new era of the booty. The entire web erupts in epic shade and laughter. The hashtag #VogueArticles took over Twitter. I can only shake my head. White folks stay columbusing.
  • LAPD detained a woman, Daniele Watts, they thought was a prostitute. Why did they think this? She is a Black woman who was kissing her white husband in public. That's it. That's all.
  • Ronald Ritchie, the man who called police and set into motion the murder of John Crawford III has changed his story. He now claims that Crawford wasn't aiming the toy gun at people. He only changed his mind AFTER the surveillance tape was released and it shows he lied. I think RItchie should be charged in Crawford's death as well as the cop who killed him. It is like open season on Black people. Damn!
  • This entire Ray Rice - Roger Goodell drama is insane. Rice is guilty as hell. But, so is Goodell. If Rice has lost his job, Goodell should suffer the same fate. Crazy that the NFL condemned Michael Vick behind some damn dogs and only gave Rice a slap on the wrist for beating his girlfriend who just happens to be a Black woman. Why don't we matter to people?!?

  • One great thing that came out of the Ray Rice domestic violence/NFL suspension was the #WhyIStayed twitter hashtag.
  • Maybe someone should tell Stephen A. Smith to shut the entire hell up already? There was this and now this. Vick bankrolled dog fights. So, is Smith comparing Black women to dogs?!? Really, Black man? I call bs. ESPN should fire him.
  • I love children's books that feature Black kids and natural hair. Here is a list of some great ones.
  • Read an interesting article. You should too. It's one woman's take on being the only White person in the room during high school.
  • Word on the streets is that Beyonce' is quite possibly pregnant with Baby Carter #2 and that Jay Z announced it on stage in Paris at the second to last OTR show. Time will tell.

Around These E-Streets (XIII)

  • White women being included in the natural hair movement is wrong. Period. Jamilah Lemieux of Ebony agrees with me.
  • Mylah has released another banger. Listen to "All On Me" now. Get into her.
  • Zendaya has dropped out of the Lifetime biopic. She is reportedly being replaced by Erika Perry. I have no clue who Perry is. Or even if this movie will truly ever get made.
  • Another day, another video of a cop beating an unarmed person. This time the victim was a Black woman. I have no words. You can read about it here.
  •  Levar Burton started a "Reading Rainbow" kickstarter. He initially wanted to raise $1 million dollars to bring the program back. He raised that amount in a day. The kickstarter raised $5.4 million plus a $1 million from Seth MacFarlane of "Family Guy" fame. Read all about it here.
  • Wanna learn how to be a woman? There's an article for that. Read it here.

  • You know how White folks LOVE to claim they discovered something that already existed years before  they ever knew of it? Like America, rock n roll, twerking, etc. There is a term for it now: "columbus-ing."
  • Someone not so bright thought that giving Robin Thicke control of the VH1 twitter handle to answer questions via the #AskThicke was a good idea. They were so wrong. It ended up being a PR nightmare. Get into it.
  • Sometimes there are gems in the rants of Kanye West. Granted, I don't want to hear those rants in the middle of a concert. But, nonetheless, Ye had something to say at the #WirelessFestival. The last paragraph is the best.  Read it.
  • Samsung's newest phone has sprung a leak. It's the Galaxy F, a high end upgrade of the Galaxy S series. It looks amazing and I want it.
  • The Supreme Court's Hobby Lobby decision is just wrong. It's a slippery slope that will lead to nowhere good in my opinion.
  • Family drama? We've all been there. Here's a guide to navigating it.

Around These E-streets (XII)

  • The new initiative to Ban Bossy is unique. Please visit the site, learn and get involved. In the words of Beyonce', "I'm not bossy. I'm the boss!!"
  • The missing plane is crazy. This story freaks me the hell out. How does one just lose a plane full of people? The non-explanations are frightening.
  • There are things I read that really blow my mind. Like this story. A 48 year old white woman who is HIV positive said she didn't know white people could contract the virus. Excuse me?!? This is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard. It is 2014 and people need to wake up. It is not a Black and Brown disease only.
  • Chimamanda Adiche defended Beyonce' last night. She also states that "Whoever says they're feminist is bloody feminist" and I totally agree. Her book "Americanah" is next on my to be read list. She is so dope to me.
  • Happy International Day of Happiness!! Also, watch Congressman John Lewis dance to Pharrell's "Happy."

  • The Boondocks is coming back 4.21.14. but, there seems to be some drama. According to this article, Executive Producer and Creator Aaron McGruder may not have anything to do with it. What?! I don't know what to think. I hope that the man who gave us Huey and Riley is still working on his show. I'll keep an eye on this story.
  • I don't think there is a person lower than one who hurts, harms, kills kids. They are the lowest form of scum. This story broke my heart. RIP Lylah Aaron. #years old is way too young to die.
  • As a kid, Jem and the Holograms was one of my favorite cartoons. There is now a Jem movie in the works. Who's happy about this?!? Me, that's who!! I'm sure it'll be "totally outrageous!!" If you do not get that reference, you are way too young!!
  • The below video is hilarious. This kid is so serious. Please watch!

Around These E-Streets (XI)

  • "Black Girls Are Magic" is a saying that is so true. Because we are. When I saw this shirt, I had to have it. Also, had to pass the link on to other fab Black girls. Get into it!!
  • Ebony Magazine Senior Editor Jamilah Lemieux writes on her Tumblr my exact feelings about the trial of Jordan Davis' killer. She nails it. Read it here.
  • I am loving everything about Hollywood's latest "It" girl: Lupita Nyong'o. She is gorgeous and a great actress. She is also a red carpet killer. She hasn't had one misstep this awards season. Also, this article made me smile for so many reasons.
  • Certain Black men let their pettiness show this past weekend. A "Sorry I'm Not Idris Elba" poem surfaced and it was dripping with hate. It was just awful. Idris responded via Twitter with slight and subtle shade that made me like him more.
  • Jada Pinkett-Smith is coming back to tv in a huge way. She has just signed on to play a villian, Fish Mooney, in the Fox Batman drama "Gotham." That makes it must see tv for me. I love her. Have ever since she was Lena James on "A Different World."
  • The Tyler Perry machine is at it again. This time, Nia Long tackles the lead role in his upcoming movie, "The Single Moms Club." It premieres March 14th. Perry is also working on a talk show for the OWN Network, which would be interesting. It premieres next Tuesday after his highly successful show "The Have and HaveNots."
  • Do you want to test your IQ? You can do so here. I am not sure how accurate it is but I was very pleased with my results :-)
  • One of my favorite (ex) Saints players, #42 Darren Sharper, is being accused of drugging and raping multiple women. I truly don't put anything past anyone. But, I was shocked by these allegations. There are 8 different cases being pursued in 5 different states. It makes me sick to my stomach. The only thing lower than a rapist is a child molester in my eyes.
  • My heart goes out to Jordan Davis' parents. They were robbed twice. Once when their son was killed and again when the jury failed to convict his killer. This interview made me cry.

Around These E-Streets (X)

°  The families of slain teens Trayvon Martin and Jordan Davis testified in front of Congress against the "Stand Your Ground" law. The hearings are essential and important because the law is too ambiguous.

° The Foreign Exchange has to be one of my favorite groups of the last few years. This interview is really dope. If you don't know about them, now is the time to check their music out. You will not regret it. Trust me.

° Juror B29 from the GZ trial says that the trial ruined her life. Sorry but I'm not sorry. This is the same woman who came out after the verdict and said that she believed GZ was guilty of murdering Trayvon Martin. She didn't fight for his justice. So, I have no sympathy with her.

° Jay Z releases a statement that I am wholeheartedly here for. Read more aqui. Also, he has his first fragrance "Gold" coming out this winter. I bet it will smell like money!

° Kanye is delusional. He truly believes that his baby momma turned fiancee is more influential than our Harvard law degree holding First Lady Michelle Obama. What? o_O Kanye, have all the seats. Also, he is on a tour absurdity that Demetria Lucas (aka A Belle in Bk) and Michael Arceneaux explains to a t.

° Banksy took NYC by storm last month. Every day, there was a new Banksy art piece. I only think one day it was shut down due to the NYPD. Because catching the elusive artist is more important than doing actual police work. This and this have to be my two favorite pieces. Banksy is so dope.

°  I discovered a new artist this week. His name is Rob Milton. His "Melt Away" is my current favorite track. Get into him via his Tumblr and here and on iTunes.

° I do not know what to say about this Chris Brown rehab for anger issues story. Luckily, Freshalina of crunktastical.net always does and quote colorfully I might add. She sums it up perfectly.

#31WriteNow: Around These E-Streets (IX)

  1. The MTV VMA's were a hot mess. Save for the Justin Timberlake and Bruno Mars performances. Everything else was literally a clusterfuck of white folks behaving badly while appropriating Black culture. I'm disgusted in many ways.
  2. The Foreign Exchange finally released their new single "Call It Home" this week. I love it. If you aren't up on FE, you need to give them a listen. Love Phonte and Nicolay and their music. Haven't stopped listening to it all week. Get into them.
  3. This #31WriteNow writing challenge has been stressful. Extremely. I needed to do it. But, I am so happy that I can see the finish line. The light at the end of the tunnel is shining brightly. I am proud of myself for getting to this point. I'm also grateful for the new bloggers I've discovered through this challenge.
  4. The appropriating of Black culture was at an all time high this week. ABC did this report which was just about my breaking point. Seriously, a report on twerking?!? Go home White America, you're drunk! Ugh. Oh, but Black Twitter did not disappoint. The trending topic of #ABCReports was golden earlier this week. Get into it for a laugh or 3.
  5. The PR machine that is the Kardashians are up to new low tricks today. I find it hard to believe that Lamar Odom is a raging crack addict and has been for years. As if this man doesn't work for the NBA and has to pass random drug testing. Also, it seems very ironic that this drug story comes out after the cheating allegations arise. I call major bs and I'm looking dead at Kris Jenner for this.

  6. Also, I really hate when mainstream media gets ahold of new terms/slang. They kill it quickly. Such as their new found fascination with twerking. It is being added to the Oxford English dictionary. I'm disgusted. BTW, what Miley is doing isn't twerking. It's making a damn fool of herself. Go ahead and watch. Cringe and be embarrassed for her.
  7. All week, I've been obsessed with one project: TGT's "Three Kings" cd. It is just great R&B. Tank, Ginuwine and Tyrese have come together as TGT. They released their debut cd "Three Kings" this week. It is literally all I've been listening to. If you are a fan of soulful R&B, this is for you. Get into it. Especially "OMG," "Tearing It Down," "Weekend In Love," and most importantly "FYH."
  8. I've been a fan of Michael B. Jordan since he was Wallace on "The Wire." *spoiler alert* I cried when Bodie and Poot killed him in season one. Hated it. I've watched him grow as an actor. I really dug him in "Chronicle." I LOVED him as Oscar Grant in "Fruitvale Station." Great actor but really he is just so nice to look at.
  9. I can honestly say there is only one headline I want to see that ha the name of Trayvon Martin's killer in it. I'm not sorry about that sentiment. The lawyers of Martin's killer are moving forward to ask the state of Florida to foot the bill (between $200,000 - $300,000) for the trial. The murderer's wife was found guilty of perjury this week also. Like her husband, she too has skirted jail time. Still no justice for Trayvon Martin.
  10. I've written a few stories. You can read them here and here. I've taken a new approach to it. Well sort of. It's been building 6 words at a time. I didn't have a goal when I started out. But, it's ended up being my thoughts this year. Read it here if you like. I was going to stop at 100. I'm on 105.

Around These E-Streets (VIII)

° Jay-Z made a huge announcement less than a week ago. It came in the form of this Samsung commercial. This Billboard article gets it all wrong in my eyes. Anyway, I am uber excited about Magna Carta Holy Grail. It drops (for Samsung customers) on July 4th, and the rest of the world on the 7th. #newrules

° The jury is set for the murder trial of George Zimmerman. I am not happy with it. CNN reports on the very homogenous, all female jury. It seems odd that in the entire state of Florida not one Black person was picked for the jury. If this racist, child murdering idiot gets off, I will be beyond pissed.

° The Miami Heat won their 2nd NBA Championship Thursday night. Games 6 & 7 were amazing. Great series and an even better win for the Heat. Congrats to them! It also marks the end of the David Stern NBA Commissioner. I cannot say I;m sorry to see him go.

° I am disgusted after reading this article about Bank of America's practces. They rewarded employees for every 10 houses they foreclosed on. What?!? Are you serious??

°Breast Cancer Awareness is a big issue to me. So, immagine my outrage when I read the Susan G. Komen Foundation was cancelling half of their 3 day races for the cure. Then, I read this article about the CEO and got pissed. Donations are down and the CEO got a raise? Why?

° I am always on the look out for any information on healthy natural hair care. I found a great article over on Clutch's site. It's about the baggy method. It helps with sealing in moisture on your hair. With it officially being summer here, I needed to read this. Will be trying it our during my next cowash.

° Kids are ridiculously honest. It's one of the things I appreciate about the little ones. And, no where is it more apparent than this review of "Yeezus" by 6 year old Jake. Accurately on point to. Especailly his last questions. "So he's rich? And he's famous? And he can buy whatever he wants? Then why is he so angry?" Why indeed Jake.

° If you know me then you know I'm a Drake fan. Have been since his second mixtape. This month, he covers GQ with the title "How To Drake It In America." Great read. Cannot wait until "Nothing Was The Same" drops.

° Paula Deen got dropped by Food Network for giving a non-apoolgy and for being a ridiculous racist. I have no words. Just read this.

° Great article on the change going on in the music business. It takes a look at the leak of Yeezus and the new Jay-Z project. Dope article.

° North West. Nope, not the direction on a compass or a map. The spawn of Kanye and Kim. Celebrities are dumb. The End.

Around These E-Streets (VII)

° In this time in my life, this article was right on point. It's titled "How To Love." I think that I needed to see this. Because clearly I haven't gotten it right in my life. The article was a great read.

° I am not a fan of Angelina Jolie. I think she is mostly overrated as an actress, although I did love her in "Taking Lives." But, she has done something that takes incredible courage. She had a preventative double masectomy. Her story is incredible. Breast cancer is a huge issue in my life because it runs on both sides of my family. Taking the BCRA1 test is a huge deal. I have been contemplating getting the gene test done. After reading this, I thought about what I would do if it were me. And, I think I would do what Angelina did. It would save my life. Great story.

° Andriod is changing. There are so many new things coming to the Andriod system. This article talks about some of the things. Also, just read this article that states BBM, the Blackberry messenger system, is headed to Andriod and iOS systems this summer. BBM is the one thing that all BB users loved. It is a quick group messnger service. I would love this. It will be free via Google store.

° One of my favorite groups Danity Kane may be on their way back. The group was broken up by dream killer Diddy a few years back. The girls only released two cds. Both were great and I still listen to them. The word is the girls have new management. I would love for this to happen. They were a dope group.

° The first trailer for "The Best Man Holiday" (follow up to the classic "The Best Man") is here. It comes out in November. I cannot wait to see it. I loved all of the characters and the first movie. Great movie with Black actors.

° BET and Debra Lee have made another erroneous mistake. TJ Holmes' show "Don't Sleep" has been cancelled. It was a very intuitive news show that aired a few nights a week. From the tone of this article, it sems like there is bad blood between Holmes and the network. For a network that is called "Black Entertainment Television," the network has been steadily declining in its focus. There is no news coverage on the netwrok. I am sad that they did this. I really enjoyed the show. I am a fan of TJ's. I hope he lands on his feet.

° I think Zoe Saldana is a gorgeous woman. She is an ok actress. But, she has been in the news lately for all the wrong reasons. Pretty woman saying stupid things. I just want her to stop it. Oh and pick up a dictionary, por favor.

° The idiot who shot 19 people at a second line here was arrested Wednesday night. His bail is set @ $10 million. Frankly, he gets what he deserves. Asshole.

° I have been a fan of JasFly since I watched her on Jumpoff Tv on Youtube. She is now on VH1's "The Gossip Game." She wrote a very dope open letter about colorism and Black people. She talks about the divide of Black people. This whole light skin versus dark skin Black people issue is stupid. The bottom line is that we are all Black people. Great read.

Around These E-Streets (VI)

° My heart is still very heavy days later . The Boston Marathon Bombing is just so sad. How cruel and evil can people be? I do not unerstand and I never will. An 8 year old child is dead. None of us should be afraid to leave our houses. This has to stop.

° Republicans are dumb and stupid. I say this with no remorse. Senate failed to pass a law to increase background checks for purchasing guns. President Obama was not happy at all with this. He looked pissed. I totally agree. What about the kids in Sandy Hook and the movie theater patrons in Aurora or the daily gun murders in the US? Do the Republicans jus not care about human life?

° Kid Rock (who I thought had stopped making music) is in the news for 2 things lately. He is on tour (why?) and his concert tickets are now $20. And for bashing the prices of the Jay-Z/JT concert. Ummm, sir? How much have you charged in the past? I hate when folks want to forget from whence they came. Shut up, dude.

° The Galaxy S4 launch date is near. I cannot wait because I really want this cell. I signed up for the pre-order with Sprint. April 27th is the day!

° Forget your education, find a husband. Yes, that's what this author wants women to do. It's laughable on so many reasons. If I would've married the guy I was with when I wasn 19-21, I would be a 33 year old divorcee. That is the truth. Read for a laugh.

° There is a new African-American natural hair care blog launching soon. It is MadameYou.I will be very interested to see what info is available here. I am always looking for a new site to read on care for my hair.

° The fact that President Obama had to take timeout to answer such trivial questions makes me sick. The fact that Jay & Beyonce's trip to Cuba is national news. We have got to do better. Seriously.

° I am watching this North Korea issue closely. It kinda scares me. You guys should pay attention too.

° I am NOT a Kobe fan. But, even I hate to see his season end like this. [Drake voice]"My n***a Kobe, I hate it had to be him." Hope he gets well soon.

Around These E-Streets (V)

I am a voracious reader. Whether it is books, magazines or online, I am almost always reading something. I wanted to share so interesting things I ran across this last week or some on the web. Hope you guys enjoy it.

° Terrilynn Monette is STILL MISSING. It's been weeks. No trace of her has been found. Not her cell or her car or her purse. It's like she disappeared into thin air. This story hurts. Because she was abducted from my city, she's in my age group. I've seen her Mom on tv her night since she was reported missing. The not knowing has to be killing her family. There is more info here and here.

° The road to overturning the groundbreaking law that Roe v. Wade set is coming. Just last week in North Dakota, the Senate passed a law that outlaws abortion at all stages. You can read about that ridiculousness here. I really have no words other than this is stupid. I am pro-life for myself but always pro-choice for other women. It's our bodies and our choice. We do not need the government's input.

° Zerlina Maxwell has been speaking on the culture of rape in this country and teaching men how not to rape. Her argument is a good one. She was featured on Sean Hannity's Faux News show. You can read about her stand here.

° Adria Richards, a Black woman, was at a tech convention when she overheard some sexist and demeaning remarks. She took the guys pictures and tweeted about the situation. It led to one of those guys being fired. A few days later, Richards was publicly fired. Her employers fired her by way of Twitter and Facebook which was beyond unprofessional. Her story is here.

° The Stuebenville rape case had the world watching. I can say that I am not happy with the outcome. I think those two young men deserved harsher punishments. What I am more appalled with s the way the media has covered this crime. CNN reporters have basically coddled these young men. IT's ridiculous. Read more here.

° A lot has been said and written about Beyoncé's "Bow Down?I Been On" tracks. I am a fan and I like it. Maybe becase I am from the South and I know all about Htown's screw music. It has a def Houston hip-hop feel to it that I dig. She is an artist. This is her art to do what she please with. This article feels the same.

° One of the best players on the Baltimore RAvens team has left. His name is Ed Reed. He is now a Houston Texan after 11 seasons. He took out a full page ad to thank his fans. Read it here. I thought that was nice and dope.

Around These E-Streets (IV)

I am a voracious reader. Whether it is books, magazines or online, I am almost always reading something. I wanted to share so interesting things I ran across this last week or some on the web. Hope you guys enjoy it.

° Is There A "Right" Age To Have Children? Clearly, I should not have read this article. It talks about how Black people should wait until they are between 30-35 to have kids. Just great, I'm already halfway through those ages. Anyway, good read.

° The "natural hair movement" is a hot button issue in the Black community. This article takes a deeper look into things. It was a very interesting read. I find that White people are more intrigued about my hair inits natural state than anyone else.

° I, for one, have not forgotten about Trayvon Martin. I am keeping up with the case. I just read this article that states that his parents are planning a civil suit against Zimmerman, the man who murdered their child. The trial isn't coming fast enough for me. I want justice for Trayvon and his parents.

° Also, the Jordan Davis case has my attention as well. This article focuses on the parents of Davis on what would have been his 18th birthday. Less than 3 months ago, Davis was killed for no reason by a white man. This is another trial that I will be watching.

° Necole Bitchie runs a very successful entertainment blog. This article talks about her journey. I loved the insight on her.

° Just so you guys know, this could not have been me. An old, clearly drunk White man called a toddler a n---er and slapped the kid in the face on a flight. You can read about it here. I would have blacked out on this man. How do you slap a kid in the face and think that it is ok? What is wrong with people??

Around These E-Streets (III)

I am a voracious reader. Whether it is books, magazines or online, I am almost always reading something. I wanted to share so interesting things I ran across this last week or some on the web. Hope you guys enjoy it.

° Read a great inspiring post on YouHeardThatNew.com. It was about dreaming big. A kick in the pants it was. You could get something out of it too. Read it here.

° I have so much to say about the whole Kanye & Kim's baby. But, I think Demetria Lucas summed it quite nicely. You can read her take here.

° In this day & age, celebrities STAY putting their foot in their mouths via social media. Fantasia is the latest in that group. She posted some very choice word on her Instagram. Miss Jia has a section on her website for open letters to celebs. This is what happened next.

° After NJ Governor Chris Christie blasted Boehner for his inaction of Sandy aid, I just knew that his re-election would not be feasible. I was wrong...

° Because Speaker of the House John Boehner narrowly won his re-election bid. I am surprised because, well, he's a douche who does not do his job. But, then again , the GOP owns the House right now.

° One of my favorite bloggers, Necole Bitchie, has a personal blog that is filled with gems. She posted this a while back. But, it is always relevant. It's about getting out of your comfort zone.

° One of my favorite professional football players, Ray Lewis, is retiring. This story makes me incredibly sad. Lewis has been a beast on the field. He gave his all to the Baltimore Ravens for 17 seasons. I have watched him almost since the beginning. He is, however, moving into a new position with ESPN in the booth. The story is here.

° It's no secret that I love our First Family. They are picture perfect in my mind. The White House has released a great pictorial on the Obama's and 2012. You can see the wonderful pictures here. The one below is my favorite. It was taken at a wedding. The First Lady is all into the vows while the President is all into her. Gotta love Black Love!

Around These E-Streets (II)

I am a voracious reader. Whether it is books, magazines or online, I am almost always reading something. I wanted to share so interesting things I ran across this last week or some on the web. Hope you guys enjoy it.

° I really loved these two articles: "25 Ways to Communicate Respect To Your Husband" & "25 Ways to Communicate Respect To Your Wife." Am I a wife? No,` but I am in a committed relationship. Am I super religious? No, but I am deeply spiritual. Both lists are full of common sense advice with Biblical backup. I truly enjoyed reading both. I think they are great guidelines to any one in a relationship.

° I blogged about the lessons I learned from "The Alchemist" here. This article reminds me of one. It is this "When you want something all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it." This is what the law of attraction is all about. This article touches right on that. It also links to Oprah talking about the LOA as well. If you haven't read "The Alchemist," I suggest you do.

° As a music lover and blogger, I am always looking for places that combine the two. I was in luck when I read my girl BK's blog yesterday. She blogged about a situation that a music lover as myself could get into. "To All The Artists I've Loved Before...I Thank You" comes from a place of deep love for music and artists. I loved it because I feel the same. Read and enjoy.

° I am a worrywart. I think it developed once I became an older sibling. I cannot shake it if I tried. Trust me, I have. And, currently still. Any way, this article was all about worrying about the wrong things. It is good. It also led me to this article which is a funny, tongue in cheek way that explains things not to worry about. Both really gave me some insight.

° If you do not know the name Angela B. Murray, you should get familiar. She is the former of Essence magazine, current editor of CocoaFab.com. The website is bright and informative. I love sites that are dedicated soley to women of color. The articles are geared towards my needs, concerns, thoughts and likes. Murray did a wonderful job at Essence and I have no doubt that her website will flourish as well. Check it out.

° If you know me then you know I am an SATC fanatic. So, in the first movie, Jennifer Hudson's character Louise is always getting hot bags from a site called Bag, Borrow or Steal. I literally did not know this was a real site until last week. It's a novel idea. But, I love my bags too much to have to send them back. I get the appeal though.

° I have no real words for this. All I can say is DMX. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Remix. Just watch. Enjoy LOL!

° My favorite singer/performer/entertainer is on her way back. Beyonce' will be everywhere come February 2013. First, she will be headlining the halftime show of the Superbowl om February 6, 2013. A week later, her new documentary will premiere on HBO. You can read about it here.

Around These E-Streets (I)

I am a voracious reader. Whether it is books, magazines or online, I am almost always reading something. I wanted to share so interesting things I ran across this last week or some on the web. Hope you guys enjoy it.

° This article made me smile. It made me stand a little taller with my unique and weird name. I haven't always felt that way. It had more to do with the idiots I have came across in my past. The ones who decided that my phonetic name was too hard to pronounce or that it was fodder for comedy. I do love that I have a name that if you hear it, you never forget it. My name is my name. This author's story is one I've sorta experienced. So, I get her outrage and her pain. I also am soaking up her sunshine when it comes to taking a stance about her name.

° I was enticed by this article on feminism and submissive. I feel that I am equal part feminist and submissve woman. I have no problem playing both of those sides because they are both a part of me. I can stand up for women's equal rights and fight the good fight all while being a domesticated lady. It's not even a choice for me because I am who I am. My favorite quote from the article is this:
I want to be gentle and not crass, to possess a quiet strength and a soft power; I’d rather purr than roar any day.

° Women and babies are always a topic of discussion. This article sets out to destroy that myth that women have to have babies. Granted, I am of the mind that children are a part of my future. I do not judge those who choose differently. It's interesting to read that more women are happily childless. I get it. I am happy now. I just want the experience of being a mom. That is a dream that I only recently totally embraced. Very good read though.

° This happened here the other day. I am sick about this. I will never understand the mind of a parent that takes the life of their kids. Why?? Also, if the life of the parent is so horrible, why don't they ever just take their own lives? It's always young kids. This Mom shot her 3 y/o son in the head and drowned her 4 y/o daughter only because the gun jammed. A 4 y/o and a 3 y/o are now dead because no one stepped into help, to fight for them. If the Mom was known to have mental issues, why was she still in charge of her kids? Stories like this always piss me off because they could always be prevented. *sigh* What is wrong with folks?

° This blog chronicles one woman's journey through breast cancer. It is a great real life look into a devastating disease. It's still Breast Cancer Awareness month. It's a big deal and a cause that I support. It has affected my family in so many ways.

° My favorite rapper started his own youtube channel a few weeks ago. Elliot Wilson, editor of RapRadar.com, has a series called "The Truth." This episode focuses on veteran rappers putting out subpar material. I totally agree with everything he says in this clip. He talks about LL Cool J's new track "Ratchet" which is ridiculously awful. From the song title to the actual track, none of it works. Uncle L is too old to be dropping mess like this. It was followed by the Fat Joe's "Instagram That Hoe." Which is also a mess. I just don't get this nonsense from vets. I cannot do anything but shake my head.
