He Said What??

I was doing my daily perusing of websites two days ago when I came across an article that truly made me angry. It was on ForHarriet and it was about DL Hughley. Let me first say that I am not a fan of his. I do not find him funny or entertaining. To me, he was the least funny comic on the "Kings of Comedy" movie. I was not here for his short lived television show nor can I tell you any movie he's been in. In the last few years, he has become more synonymous with sticking his proverbial foot in his mouth. Do you remember when he said that Don Imus was not wrong to call the women's basketball team "nappy headed hoes?" If not, just know that he did say it. And, no he wasn't trying to be funny when he did it. He has a new book out that I won't mention the name of because I'm sure that it is full of more crap like his quote. He appeared on NPR and when asked his thoughts on Black women, he said,
"I've never met an angrier group of people."

This quote was followed by this gem:

"Being a dad to daughters is very different from being a dad to sons. The dangers are different and the way they listen to you is different. I'm sure every father feels the same way that I do about his daughters. I love them, but I don't like them. Who likes women?" "I don't like the way they process - no, I don't. I enjoy their company. I do not like the way that they reason. You can't understand them."

No, your eyes are not deceiving you. This is a real quote from comedian DL Hughley. This being said by a Black man is disheartening. It's sad and grotesque. The fact that the Black man who wrote this has been married to a Black woman for 26 years, who has also raised 2 Black female children, who is from a Black woman is not lost on me. I am sick of the media and everyone always continually dumping on Black women. This man is an idiot. Plain and simple. And, I wonder how his wife, daughters and mother feel about this? It could not be me. It's one thing to have a husband who is an idiot, it's another thing for the whole free world to know it. This comes across as a self loathing, self hating Black man. I'm surprised he's been with a Black woman so long.

I want everyone, especially Black men, to stop speaking on and for Black women. We have a voice. We know how to use it. As Black women, we have been taught how to be strong because the world is never going to make it easy for us. I am so glad that I do not know, associate or love any Black men who feel this way. And, if I do, they better keep this ridiculous opinion to themselves. Because I will never be ok with anyone generalizing about everything I am. If any of you are interested, you can read the transcript of the interview here. I am completely done. If you are was appalled as I am, do me a favor and ignore Hughley's book. It does not deserve to sell any units. I am completely disgusted and done.

Deepest Affections

I have the deepest affection for intellectual conversations. The ability to just sit and talk. About love, about life, about anything, about everything. To sit under the moon with all the time in the world, the full-speed train that is our lives slowing to a crawl. Bound by no obligations, barred by no human limitations. To speak without regret or fear of consequence. To talk for hours and about what’s really important in life. - via herarbitrarymusings

I read the above post on Tumblr the other night. It stopped me from scrolling past it. It made me nod my head. Made my heart beat a little bit faster. I totally agree with it. There is nothing sexier than intellectual conversations. Nothing. I'm talking about those conversations that go on forever. They stimulate a person on many levels. I am a sucker for intelligent conversations. Especially the ones that take all night. Just intelligent conversation, genuine interest and deep soulful laughter. Conversations like these are few and far in between. I crave them. I am lucky though, I am able to have them on any given day. I am truly thankful for that. I thoroughly enjoy the conversations that challenge me and teach me. Those are the best. I love hearing other people speak on things I know nothing about or seeing their point of view. I don't think that enough people truly appreciate this. It is an art in my world. I love the artist too. I was just truly moved by this quote so I had to share with my people. Hope you guys like it as well. Take this as an initiative to engage in deep intellectual conversation with someone today. Take the time to do this for yourself and them also. We all need it. I don't know about any one else but I crave it. Feed the craving! Talk.

Knowledge

"Sagittarius women are eternal students, they never stop learning and love to share their experiences."

I saw this on twitter and it struck me. It epitomizes who I am. I love learning. I have since I was a kid. Possessing knowledge is powerful. I was the little girl who craved going to school. The one who even when sick had to go to school. My attendance record was damn near stellar. I was amazed by the vast sea of things I could learn. Learning was my addiction. It was the thing that made me instantly happy. It still is.

I'm not 100% into astrology. But I do know enough about my sign to know that I'm truly a Sag. My thirst for knowledge is never ending. I like researching a subject I don't know much about and filling in the blanks. I also happen to love sharing the knowledge with any one who asks. To me, learning has always been about taking me away from the neighborhood I grew up in. I had the world at my fingertips right in any and every book I picked up. I am intelligent self taught on many subjects. I pride myself on that. Knowledge is the key that unlocks the world. I plan to keep learning until I am physically incapable of not doing it.

Simple Quote

When you just "be yourself" you give the right person the opportunity to see the real you and Fall.
