Ladies Love Lyrics: Currently

I am back on my music kick. For a while, music and specifically lyrics were too much for me. There is a saying that when you're happy, you enjoy the music. But, when you're sad, you understand the lyrics. That has been beyond true with me lately. But, I've decided to reclaim music because it's my thing. I can't let a person or a situation take that away from me. So, no more avoiding certain songs or cringing when I hear them. Now, I just enjoy what I enjoy. Here are a few of my current faves. As always, the lyrics are what made me a fan. Get into all of them!

"This is not an excuse
I'm just telling the truth
Baby, I'm so sorry
For hurting you

Oh, I'm ashamed of me (Shame on me)
Wish I never done you wrong (Shame on me)
Every night of us I dream
That I wake up in your arms

I know why you left me
But since you've been gone
My understanding
Has moved and grown
I've come to this conclusion
Over and over again
I don't want an enemy
I just want back my friend."

"Oh, silly me my dear, for thinking that you'd stay
Gave you my heart and then you ran away
Either I'm stupid, I'm foolish, or you're playing me
But it seems we were never really meant to be

So I thought I would try something new
I wanted to find out if I could live happy without you
And it turned out I wasn't living at all
I'd rather never known if you had just played along

I was living the dream believing things that just ain't true
Oh I can't believe I ever believed in you
You had me chasing fool's gold
I was chasing fool's gold."

"Just let it burn
Let it, let it burn
Call me crazy but I think I found the love of my life

Feel it creepin' in your heart
Ooh baby can you feel it tearing you apart?
That's right that's love
When it comes, you never wanna give it up
And baby, I'm caught in the light and I ain't gonna fight it
There's no use in tryin', I'm yours
And I want you to want me the way that I would you and more."

"Head on your chest babe, but your heart is so quietWe use to talk all night long, now we laying in silenceYour arms around me but your soul is somewhere elseGone so long and I know you so wellI know that you are everything that I ever dreamed ofAnd I hoped that love had a happy endingBaby you should be here, right hereBaby you should be here, right hereDon't know where you went but you're lost nowDon't know where you went but you're gone now."

"Last night you didn't call,Had me worried all night longWhy you keep doing me wrong?I don't know, babe! And it hurts so badI'm tired of being sad,This house is not a homeThe love is gone, baby!I just can't see it, I can't see, baby!Staying in this with you, you, you, you!If you love me, set me free!"

"The first time you shot me down I was grazed
Second round was never found, it ricocheted
Nowhere to run, I was stunned in a daze
A victim of a love I can't escape

I remember when you said you loved me
Three little words that burned into my soul
Maybe you didn't mean those things you told me
Maybe you didn't really mean those words at all"

"So you say you wanna get away
We don't need a plane
We'll be your escape
Take you to a place
Where there is no time, no space
I could be your private island
On a different planet
Anything could happen
Listen to the waves
Let them wash away your pain

I could be your fantasy
I could be your fantasy
Underneath the palm trees
You could leave your worries
Listen to the waves
Sure you wanna get so high?
Breath me in like air tonight."

Just Because I Felt Like It: J. Cole

J. Cole has had my attention since I first heard his mixtape. I've been a fan. But, there is something different about his mindset and music this time around. He has been visible in the Michael Brown/Ferguson protests. He's used his voice to give this cause some shine.  His new cd "2014 Forest Hills Drive" is so dope to me. I love the growth in his lyrics and his beat selection is great. During his promo run, he performed "Be Free" on David Letterman. Which is amazing for two reasons. This song is not on his new cd. It's the song he recorded after Brown was killed. It was such a raw performance. I loved it. I wish he would've included it on his new project. He followed that up with a very open and honest interview with Power 105's Angie Martinez. Both are videos you need to watch. J. Cole is amazing to me. He has solidified it with this project. Get into this.

Get Into It: Chrisette Michele Unplugged Vlogs

Chrisette Michele's voice is e-very-thing to me. Here she is singing "Better." This song has always been one of my favorites by her. I just haven't been able to listen to it without feeling awful and crying. So, I've avoided it for a long time. But, this made it's way to my Tumblr dash and I had to listen. Upon hearing this acoustic version inspired another emotion. I felt hopeful. I can honestly say I haven't felt hopeful in a really long time. It's been about 20 months since my heart was broken. The fact that I know the exact amount of time that has passed also let's me know that I'm not 100% better yet. I have been staunchly anti-love since then. I like that the song is about the possibility of a new love. Granted, I am not there. I don't know if I'll ever be to be honest. But, I digress. Chrisette has one of those heavily jazz influenced R&B soul voices. Her voice is truly an instrument and this video proves it. Get into the effortless way she dismantles this song. I think I love this version more than the original. Also, she is absolutely amazing in concert. Get into the video above and the lyrics below!!

"When I fall for love the next time.
And an arrow’s in my back.
I won’t let the pain get me down, oh no.
I won’t fight back.
Let the cupid take me wherever he wants to go.
Fly me to the moon like an old jazz love song.
Cupid, do what you want to do.
The choice is yours.
When I get where you’re taking me,
Love’s gonna make me...feel better, better, better!
Love’s gonna make me feel better, better, better!
Cause getting to love’s got me losing my mind!
I’ve been wrecking my brain
love’s so insane.
Cupid, help me please.
cause Mr. Wrong keeps meeting me!
and I got a funny feeling love is just around the bend so
I’ll keep on pushing till love falls for me!"

#100Tunes100Days

I noticed a hashtag (#) on Instagram that interested me. It was #100Tunes100Days. I do not know where it started but it's music related so I was all in. I decided to focus on the songs that have special memories attached to them. Especially the songs from my childhood that made me into the woman I am today. I thought that this challenge would be better served if I did it on Tumblr. I wanted to do more than just list the song. I wanted a Spotify or Soundcloud or Youtube link to the actual song. As well as a little bit about why I chose that particular song. I am into week 2 of this challenge. It has been really easy for me to choose songs so far. I know it will get harder as the days pass. Feel free to join in if you like. I am having way too much fun with it. You can follow my list of #100Tunes100Days on my Tumblr

**My Picks for #100Tunes100Days**
  1. "Out On A Limb" - Teena Marie
  2. "Baby-Baby-Baby" - TLC
  3. "Lyte As A Rock" - MC Lyte

Ladies Love Lyrics: Jilll Scott "The Real Thing"

Don't you hate when you forget about a really dope song? I know I do. It's the way I felt when Jill Scott's "The Real Thing" played on Spotify last night. I completely forgot how much this song makes me happy. I've always felt that the lyrics were perfect to describe me. It was my theme song back then. I haven't heard it in years. I played it at least 7 times last night. So, I had to share it here. Get into these lyrics and Jilly from Philly's vocals. They are both e-very-thing!!
"You gotta do right by me it's mandatory baby
Sweeter than your favorite ice cream be,
bask in my glory baby
Don't play no games, that'll ruin thangs
And make me leave ya or mistreat ya and you
don't want that
Don't hesitate, I could make you great
Like Cleopatra Jones I could set you straight

[Chorus:]
I'm the real thing in stereo
I got a little highs I got a little lows
Follow this melodic flow
I could make it shine I could make it glow. (repeat twice)
I'm more than a toy for your satisfaction
I'm a pay-per-view for the TV screen,
your main attraction
Your phosphorus, I'm your energy
When your lost and you need some focus
come see me
I'll entice ya man I do it all the time
In the morning in the evening
when the doves cry
I can feed you gut,put you in a tub
When I turn it up yeah brotha you know
what's up
A little bubbles and a body rub,
turn off the water (drip drip)
Don't think about dessert I got enough
And a whole lot more to give!"

Ladies Love Lyrics: A Little Neo-Soul Today

I'm in a neo-soul mood today. So I had to share some of my faves by The Foreign Exchange, Dwele and Eric Roberson. Both of these aren't new songs but they are timeless to me. If you don't know these artists, you need to get into them. Great music is good for your soul. Remember that. I am a fan of all of these artists. They all make music that my soul craves. These songs are just the tip of the iceberg for the catalogs of each. Let's get into this music and these lyrics. Enjoy this vibe I'm setting, people!

"Laying here girl
wondering if I am on your mind.
Cause when you're gone
it seems the clock is never kind.
I wait in the morning
yearning to kiss your lovely face
only to find it is the pillow my lips embrace.
Now what can I do
when happiness I find, I find in you
As if it rains on my parade
every minute of each hour of each day
that you;re not around
my heart just wears a frown..."

"If only for one moment
Accept me as your king
In return I'll turn to love you
My hand, your neck, no screams.
Tap me once if its too much pressure
Tap twice if you need to breath
Don't play tough if you're not ready
Before you faint on me
Obey, stay in place
Oh, as I grab your waist
Don't get mad if I bury your face
I might snatch your hair if it's real
Ride the wave,take all day
But first obey!"

"Listen, so hard to read between the lines.
Just know you are mine,
I am yours, nothing more.
Looking for the way to
ask you to stay here with me.
One more night, one more day.
So, I lay here beside you.

Nothing better to do
What could be sweeter than you?
With nothing better to do,
I'm asking what could be sweeter than you?"

Faking It Til You Make: The Music Version

For the last month and a half, I've been playing this one song daily. It's a motivational tool for me. One of those "fake it til you make it" moments. It also happens to be one of my favorite Boyz II Men songs. It's "Doin Just Fine" from their "Evolution" cd. I've always thought this was the ultimate "I'm finely over the person who broke my heart songs." While I'm not there yet, this song gives me hope. I find it ironic that this is the first song on the cd and it is followed by "Never" which is another song that has been getting a lot of play in my world. The lyrics for both are things I feel I need to hear daily so that I don't completely check out on certain aspects of life. Especially on today of all days. Today is a bad day. But, music makes it slightly better. If you've never heard them, do yourself a favor and get into them (and their lyrics) below. If you've ever been brokenhearted, these songs will resonate with you on a deeper level. Let's listen.

"I'm doin' just fine
Getting along very well
Without you in my life
I don't need you in my life
I'm doin' just fine
Time made me stronger
You're no longer on my mind

You were my earth
My number one priority
I gave me love to only you
Anything you'd ask of me
I would do
But somewhere down the road
You felt a change in the weather
And told me that you had to journey on
A kiss in the wind and your love was gone..."

"Never, never let a broken heart
Take a chance for love away
Don't ever let it make you fall apart
Never, never ever let the pain
Take your need for love away
Never, no never

And I know it seems hard
Open up, let down your guard
But you owe it to your heart
Try again
Oh, comes a time
When we must change
With the past
Has thrown away
Don't take the blame
Don't be ashamed
Throw your fears away..."

Ladies Love Lyrics: Beyonce's "No Angel"

For the last 5 weeks, I have been listening to nothing but Beyonce's latest album. Everyday, I have a new favorite track. Today it happens to be "No Angel." There is something about this song that just screams that it needs to be played at loud ignorant levels and often which I do. The beat is dope as are the lyrics. It just reminds me of summertime in Houston. I love everything about it. Go ahead and get into it.

"Baby put your arms around me
Tell me I'm the problem
Know I'm not the girl you thought you knew and that you wanted
Underneath the pretty face is something complicated
I come with a side of trouble
But I know that's why you're staying

Because.
You're.
No.
Angel.
Either, baby.
Cause you're.
No.
Angel.
Either, baby.
Cause you're.
No.
Angel.
Either, baby.
Cause you're.
No.
Angel.
Either, baby.

No I'm not an angel either, but at least I'm trying
I know I drive you crazy, but would you rather that I be a machine
Who doesn't notice when you late or when you're lying
I love you even more than who I thought you were before..."

Memories From The Mind of Kenda

Random Kenda Fact:

I LOVE MUSIC!! The first two vinyls I owned were New Edition’s “Candy Girl” and Teena Marie’s “Starchild.” Now, decades later, they are still among my favorite projects.

I remember the day my Dad gave me these two. He picked me up from school and said he had a surprise for me. I didn’t know what it was but I was excited. He was a DJ who instilled this insane love of music in me. When we got home, he told me to go find it in my room. I ran through the house and got to my door which was shut. I flung the door open and screamed. There, on my desk, was a little brown and pink Barbie portable record player and the two albums. You could not tell 4 year old Kenda she wasn’t a DJ also. I was in heaven.
He showed me how to place the needle ever so gently on the vinyl so I wouldn’t scratch it and how to get to the exact song I wanted to hear. I was in heaven. I must have played “Candy Girl” 50 times before my Mom got home from work that night. I played both records out. Through the years, there would be others that joined the collection. But, these two were the beginning.
It was the moment music was solidified as an integral part of my being. I didn’t know it then but I can see it now. I was extremely proud of my collection. Unfortunately, Hurricane Katrina :( took them all away. I am just now thinking about restarting my vinyl collection. I need it in my life.

Ladies Love Lyrics: John Legend's "All of Me"

I've noticed that no matter what's going on with me, I love a great love song. I crave them. They are usually perfection to me. That is to be said about John Legend's "All of Me." It is a beautiful musical composition. I love everything about it. The piano is divine, the lyrics are amazing and his voice is the only one I want to hear sing this particular song. If I still had dreams of certain things, this song would definitely be first dance worthy. I also really love that he used actual footage from his wedding to Chrissy Tiegen for the gorgeous video above. Just a really great song. You can't help but feel and be happy while listening to it. It's just that good to me. The lyrics are below. I have my favorite lines highlighted. Go ahead and give it a listen. Also, get into his "Love in the Future" cd because the whole thing is a dope listen.

"What would I do without your smart mouthDrawing me in, and you kicking me outGot my head spinning, no kidding, I can't pin you downWhat's going on in that beautiful mindI'm on your magical mystery rideAnd I'm so dizzy, don't know what hit me, but I'll be alright

My head's under waterBut I'm breathing fineYou're crazy and I'm out of my mind

Cause all of meLoves all of youLove your curves and all your edgesAll your perfect imperfectionsGive your all to meI'll give my all to youYou're my end and my beginningEven when I lose I'm winning'Cause I give you all, all of meAnd you give me all, all of you, oh

How many times do I have to tell youEven when you're crying you're beautiful tooThe world is beating you down, I'm around through every moodYou're my downfall, you're my museMy worst distraction, my rhythm and bluesI can't stop singing, it's ringing, in my head for you..."

#31WriteNow: This Is My Jam

Music is one of the most consistent things in the world. No matter my mood, I can always find a song that correlates. I've been relying on it a lot. There are a few songs you guys may have missed. Some are dance songs that never fail to make me move. Others are love songs, which is ironic. It's not an emotion I want to deal with but it makes for some really great songs. Some are motivational and others are songs straight for the bedroom. Either or, I dig them all and wanted to share. Also, we'll dig into the lyrics which is always the best part of every song.

Mayer Hawthorne has a hit on his hands with his single "Crime." It's a very smooth track which features a dope 16 from the kid Kendrick Lamar. I've been a Hawthorne fan. I'm really just getting on the Kendrick bandwagon. This is just a dope track. It has a summery feel to it. It's the perfect house party song to play when you're dancing real close to a guy you like. I can picture it clearly. "It's a crime. Backyard. Tunes right, girls dancing in the moonlight. Then come the one time. Regulation. Gotta pay the fine. We just wanna party. Don't wanna hurt nobody, but they make it so hard."

Pharrell snuck this gem by me. I randomly heard it on the radio one day. It has become my motivational song. I listen to it every day. I'm obsessed with it. The beat is what pulled me in. Then the lyrics made it golden in my eyes. I mean, who doesn't just want to be happy? Lord knows I do. I deserve to be happy and this song does that for me. You should let it do the same for you. "It might seem crazy what I’m about to say. Sunshine she’s here, you can take a break. I’m a hot air balloon that could go to space. With the air, like I don’t care baby by the way. Because I’m happy. Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof. Because I’m happy. Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth. Because I’m happy..."

If you've been living under a rock, then you probably have missed out on one of the best projects of the last year. "The Robert Glasper Experiment released "Black Radio" and it was golden. I still play it. Now, the first single from "Black Radio 2" is here. The single is "Calls" and it features Jill Scott. From the first listen, I was sold. I have no doubt that the new project will be awesome. "I don't even have to question if it's real or not, you're right there all times. Even when my car brooked down in the parking lot, you were there! You didn't start out or hesitate. You come to my rescue once again like that. You always answer calls when I call you come. You always answer my calls when I call you always come."

And, last but not least, there is the genius who is Stacy Barthe. She can do know wrong in my eyes. I've been a fan of her voice and her ill pen game. This song lives on her EP. "Touch" is dope for many reasons. A friend text me to tell me that I would love this song. My friends know me well because I do. I do love a song that is kinda dirty. "Hmmm, sometimes I feel so stupid for texting.
Especially when you don't reply in. Oh, picking up your phone and the worst thought about it
Cause when you get calm, I'll be waiting up anticipating your alibis. What took you so long to get into my bed? I don't wanna quarrel, no, no, no. I just wanna be so perfectly immersed in your arms!
Oh, I couldn't have it no other way. Oh, I couldn't have it no other way. I'm not asking for much, I just want your touch. I'm not asking for much, I just want your touch. I'm not asking for much, I just want your touch. I'm not asking for much, I just want your touch."

(Oh and the Dame Dash dance will forever be relevant. Get into it.)

Dance For You

There is absolutley no reason for this post other than the fact that this gif is my spirit animal. Especailly when she does the stripper kicks. That's my favorite move ever. And, since I have decided that the rest of this year will be a positive one, dancing plays a big part. Also, included one of my favorite unofficial remixes as well. Now, watch the girl dance as Beyonce' and T.I. flow for us.

Ladies Love Lyrics: Songs In My Head

I'm in a mood. A bad one. So, as per the usual, music is needed. Here are a few songs that have been played tonight. Get into them and the lyrics.

"Just because I love you
Doesn't mean I don't get mad
It just means I won't stay mad for long
Just because I love you
Doesn't mean I don't have bad days
Sometimes I wanna be alone
Just because I love you
Doesn't mean I don't want that
I am a human being with feelings
Oh, let me get this straight
You got an attitude 'cause I don't wanna do things your way
I can't believe this, I don't need this
I'm a find somebody else who'll let me
And I'm pretty when I don't look my best
And I don't feel like I gotta have an S on my chest
Have an S on my chest
Yes yes, on my chest
I can't be supa all the time

Sup so so supa
Sup so so supa
Sup so so, sup so so, sup so so supa..."

"I was looking for a cure to pull me through
Try to decide which medicine to use
And every bottle has your name on the label
Doctor said you keep me stable
So now, I’m taking three a day to help me smile
They said I should wait and try it for a while
So I’ve been ignoring my symptoms
And the small print on the back of my prescription

What I’m gonna do is
Fever over 98, you hold me and my body shakes
See nobody told me, nobody told me
The side effects of you
Losing balance, falling down
Sleepless nights whenever you’re around
Nobody told me, nobody told me
The side effects of you
The side effects of you

I double checked the recommended dose
Cause recently my headaches getting worse
Sometimes every part of me is shaking
Is this the right pill that I’m taking."

"But when my tears dropped, where the hell were you?
It's okay, boy I've changed and I ain't been here waiting

So I won't pretend to feel bad for you
'Cause since you left I ain't cried since
And boy I like it that way

I can say I'm done in a million ways
But let's not beat around the bush
Let's cut to the chase
You changed, I changed but it's too late,
Now I'm so through, too cool, oh yeah
And if our love was a game, you just lost
You changed, I changed but it's too late

I know you hate to see this look on my face
I'm sure that you can see real clear a little lying goes a long way
And if you think I'd waste more tears, boy you're crazy
And maybe you should get yourself a minute, don't delay
But you let the ball drop, too bad for you
But it's okay, boy I'm straight, my whole life's amazing"

"You steady telling lies
I stayed and pacified
While I kept denying the truth
You always here and there
Finally I don't care
I'm going to keep it real with you

[Chorus]
Ain't no feeling like being free
When your mind's made up
And your hearts in the right place, yeah
Ain't no feeling like being free
When you've done all you could
But what's misunderstood
(It's all good, it's all good)
Ain't no feeling like being free
I'm like an eagle set free
And finally I'm looking out for me
Ain't no feeling like being free
Cause my mind's made up
And my heart is in the right place, yeah
Hold 'em up, wait a second
I got to get something off my chest
My happiness was our happiness, I lived and (breathed)
You and all your needs
Let me speak, it's best I do what's best for me
Now ladies, (ladies)
I got my mind back
I been there and done that (no looking back no)
Oh, this time is for me
If you been doing you
I'm going to do me
I'm free"
