Are You Ready For Some Football, Baby?!?

Football is finally back!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you tell that I'm a tad bit excited?!? I am because I love football. The season officially opened last Thursday. But, my team, the New Orleans Saints, play today @ 12 p.m. central. We open our season with an away game playing our rivals the Falcons. When the Saints play, it is a no fly zone so those dirty birds will fail and fall as usual. I am praying that my team has an amazing season which will lead us to the Superbowl!! Geaux Saints! Who Dat!! 

Bountygate

"Bountygate" has been plaguing my home team, the Saints. The team has been found guilty of implementing a hit for hire type program. In an investigation spanning almost 3 years, the NFL commission found the team guilty. The repercussions have been far stretching. Coaches have been punished severely. Players could possibly be next in line. What does this do in the long run? Nothing if you ask me.

Defensive coach Greg Williams has been named as the person behind this program. For his role in "Bountygate" he has been suspended from the NFL indefinitely. As a Saints fan, I feel no sympathy towards him. He was no longer employed by my home team. I am more concerned with the seemingly excessive punishment of the head coach Sean Payton. He has been suspended for the year. A whole season? I think that's way too much. What's a team without its coach? Goodell seems to be making an example out of the Saints coaching staff. I'm sure this sort of bounty program exists on other teams. The Saints aren't the only ones. It just makes me angry that a season could potentially be ruined.

And, to make matters worse, there are contract issues with our quarterback, Drew Brees. Players have left the team. The Saints seem to be imploding onto themselves. I do not believe that next season will be a good one. The Superbowl is also going to be played in my hometown in 2013. It would be karmic justice for the Saints to make it back to the big game and win at home. That would be the ultimate revenge on Goodell and his actions. Either or, I'm over "Bountygate." The anticipation of what's next has gotten old. I'm going to wait and see what happens during football in the fall.

This Superbowl Was A Snooze...

Superbowl Sunday has come and gone. The Giants bested the Patriots to win the Superbowl Sunday. As someone who loves football, I was underwhelmed. The game was not interesting or exciting. There was not one breakout moment. There were no great plays, wonderful intercepts or even hard hits. The Superbowl was a snoozefest. I'm not a fan of either team so that could've played a part in my opinion of it. But the overall consensus online is the same as mine. I think the only people who enjoyed the games were Giants fans. Congrats to the team and their fans.

The halftime performance was interesting. Madonna is in her 50's. She was ok to me. She performed 4 songs, 3 old and her current single. It was nice to see Madonna perform with LMFAO, Nicki Minaj, and MIA. My favorite part of her performance was the end. She sang my favorite song "Like A Prayer" with a choir and CeeLo. The Superbowl halftime performances have truly sucked since Janet's nipplegate.

Anyway, next year's Superbowl will be held in my city. I think it would be awesome if my hometeam gets to play in the big game in their own dome!! Yes, I'm already looking forward to it and the next season of football. And then there is the ongoing basketball season, All Star Weekend and playoffs to look forward to. Great Season, Saints!!

As a little girl, I was not interested in sports. They did nothing for me. I thought football and basketball were boy sports and that they were kind of dirty. I did not get into either sport until I entered high school. I remember that both of my grandfathers and my Mom were HUGE Saints fans. I'm talking about back in the 80's and 90's when people wore paper bags over their heads at the games. They were diehard, to the bone Saints fans. I would always say "All they do is lose, why do y'all watch them?" They didn't care. They supported their team. The Saints are my hometown team. Black and Gold and the Fleur de lis are embedded in my brain. These symbols are synonymous with the Saints.

I can honestly say that I did not believe until the 2006 season. This was our redemption season following the devastation of Katrina. The team's record in 05 was a lowly 3-13. Drew Brees was signed and Coach Payton was new. Reggie Bush was drafted. Things were looking up. The Saints ended the season at 10-6! A huge turn around from the previous season. Things have steadily improved since then. And in 2009, the Saints won their first Superbowl. I have never felt prouder to be a Saints fan and a New Orleanian. This team has brought so much happiness to a city that Bush and his administration had written off. The city that the world forgot fought back. The games sold out, the fans screamed louder, we all felt pride in our team.

We ended this season at 13-3. On the road to Superbowl 2012, the team faced the Lions a week ago. They won to advance on. Last Saturday, the Saints faced the 49ers. This was a nail biter, end of the couch, second away from a heart attack game. The Saints fought hard to come back in the first half from a 17-0 deficit. By halftime, the score was 17-14. We were back in it. The second half was even more amazing than the first. With 1:37 left on the clock, the Saints were up by 3. The 49ers had possession of the ball. And in one heartbreaking catch, the 49ers ended my Saints run. The final score was 36-32. I am so proud of them Black and Gold Boys though. This season was amazing to watch. The last game was as well.

So, the football fan in me is disappointed that the Saints aren't still in it any more. But, I will keep watching so I can watch the 49ers fall before making it to the Superbowl. I'm thinking that the Superbowl will be interesting. I'm still looking forward to next season in the NFL. I will always be a Saints fan for everything that the team brings to my city. I went to my first game this season. I loved every second of it. I can't wait to experience that again. So to Brees, Colston, Graham, Sproles, Ivory, Moore, Thomas, Coach Payton and the entire Saints team, I say thank you for a great season. Bless you Boys!! And no matter what I'm still yelling "GEAUX SAINTS!!"

Superbowl Sunday

Today is the day: Superbowl Sunday!! It's the Pittsburgh Steelers versus the Green Bay Packers! I, for one, cannot wait! I am all about the Steelers! I love the game. It's even more exciting for me since my friend is playing for his 3rd ring today. I also live for the great commercials that premiere on Superbowl Sunday. The halftime show has been very boring ever since Janet and Justin's Nipplegate. But, Usher is performing today. So maybe it will be better today. Cannot wait to see Mike Tomlin's team get their win and trophy today. #STEELNATION

Who Loves Sports?

My name is Kenda & I'm a sports fan. For some, especially men, this admission always garners a second look. That always makes me giggle. Why is it strange that I'm a sports chick? I like what I like. Football and basketball fall into this category. I am passionate about my teams. I love the excitement of the game. I yell at the tv, the players, the refs, and the coaches during games. Especially during the playoffs. I live for it. What's the big deal with women liking sports?

In high school, I was a huge Green Bay Packers fan. Brett Favre was my dude. I could not get enough of that football team. Whenever I watched football, I was only rooting for the Packers. I also loved high school football games. But it was for an entirely different reason. I was on the Flag Team during my freshman & sophomore years and the Pep Squad my junior & senior years. I wanted to be seen performing. I could care less about if we won or lost. Sad but true lol. I liked football then. I've also been a Ravens, Steelers and Saints fan as well. All Superbowl winning teams. I pick great teams to follow. I'm still rooting for the Steelers to pull this out. In the end, my heart, as always, lays with another sport.

Basketball is my favorite sport. It has been since I was in high school. I was never a Jordan or Magic fan. My love of bball started with a team in Florida. I was an uber Orlando Magic fan as well. Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway was my absolute favorite player. Shaq was also a favorite of mine on that squad. This team was it for me. Until I discovered a rookie by the name of Allen Iverson. His skills on the court made me a Sixers fan for ten seasons. He is still my favorite baller hands down. Currently, I am a Boston Celtics fanatic. This is the first time I've loved an entire team. There isn't one person on the squad that I don't like. They are the complete package. I cannot wait to watch my boys get another ring in June.

I always find it funny when men are surprised by this fact about me. I've been told that my being so into sports is sexy by HIM and that makes me smile. And, honestly, his opinion is the one thats matters the most in my world. I'm a woman and I happen to love sports. Yes, I do have my moments when I get caught up in the players' looks & physiques.
