Ladies Love Lyrics: Jill Scott

Jill Scott is B-A-C-K!!!! Her new cd "Woman" is everything I wanted and all the things I didn't even know I needed. She is singing her face off the entire cd. I love every song. Just had to share some of these dope songs and great lyrics with you. Get into it below and enjoy!!

"Prepared"

"I been reading my own journals
Checking to see where my head has been
And I been apologizing to some people
Some bridges I needed to mend
And I been eating mor4e greens
Getting my body alkiline
I'm gonna be super fine
And I been letting
Been letting some old ideas go
I'm making room for my life to grow
I just wanna be prepared
I just wanna be, just wanna be prepared
Getting myself prepared..."

"Cruisin"
"In my past I made mistakes because I was drunk on love
Too quick to trust
Jumped in too easy
Yet we feel like we could be an us but my fear is strong though
I’ve seen no wrong
I hope I’m not dreaming
I can’t see myself waking in the morning with someone else but I can’t tell if it’s love.
I need to know
So I’m cruisin’ on the evening breeze to clear my mind take my time so I can breathe
Cruisin’ on the evening breeze to clear my mind take my time so I can breathe"

Just Because I Felt Like It: Dope Interviews

I learned of Nicki Minaj by word of mouth a few years back. I instantly became a fan once I heard "Itty Bitty Piggy," "Go Hard," & "Still I Rise." Actually, "Still I Rise" is STILL one of my fave Nicki tracks. I knew she had it and she would be a big deal. Fast forward to the release of her third project aptly named "The Pinkprint," and I was more than right. I loved her debut "Pink Friday." I thought it was dope. I liked her second project "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded" a lot less. Her features on everybody's songs made up for it though. But, "The Pinkprint" resonates with me. This album shows growth and maturity. It's the album of a 30+ woman who's been through some things. The album has an air of heartbreak to it, which is why I think I dig it so much. My favorite tracks are "Favorite," "I Lied," "Feeling Myself," "Want Som More," & "Get On Your Knees." I do not think that "Anaconda" fits the album nor did I like it. But, it's a solid project to me.

What I am loving about this promo run are her interviews. Nicki has been so relatable in every one. Her best interviews have been with Angie Martinez on Power 105, Ebro on Hot 97, and Elliott Wilson's "CRWN" series. I had to include them here. Great material. I do not think I could be going through my first real heartbreak with the world watching. Nicki is handling it well. She said something that has stuck with me. "This breakup feels like a death" is something that I can identify with on so many levels. I do feel sorry for her because breakups suck and they are even worse when you're in love. I loved seeing this real side of her. Seeing her vulnerable makes her more relatable. I feel like this is the real Nicki on this project. I am glad to finally meet her. She has made me a renewed fan. Gone are the days of the crazy outfits, colorful wigs and "safe" pop records. "The Pinkprint" feels familiar in so many ways. Get into it and these dope Nicki Minaj interviews.

Get Into It: "Black Messiah"

It's been almost 15 years since D'Angelo (And The Vanguard) blessed us with a new project "Black Messiah." It's been almost 15 years too long since we heard his melodic tone. I've decided that this was a birthday gift for me. I have been a lifelong fan. His music has always been an experience for me. I couldn't wait to dig into this "Black Messiah" project. I listened to it early this morning. I was pleasantly surprised with every single track. It's an effortless flow of songs that speak to me. It is the perfect follow up to "Voodoo." It has that same funk era feel that made "Voodoo" so classic to me. There isn't one song that I dislike. My standout early favorites are "Another Life," "Really Love," "Betray My Heart," and "1000 Deaths." Those are the four that I've played the most today. D'Angelo sounds amazing on these tracks.

The above video has the whole project on it. It is also available on itunes and you can stream it for free on Spotify. I cannot stop playing it. It has been the soundtrack to my Monday and second full day of being 35. This is grown folks music at its best. I just know that this project will sound amazing with a live band in concert. Whenever he goes on tour, I will be there. I love the very earthly feels of "Black Messiah." It feels like home. It's odd how something so new can still feel old and very familiar. I love that he took the Beyonce' approach a full year after her with this surprise release. We all knew D'Angelo was working on new music but none of us had any idea when or if we would get it. This project is a gift that I am fully prepared to enjoy for weeks to come. If you are an old fan, you will deeply enjoy this. If you are new to D'Angelo, this is a great introduction. Get into everything that is D'Angelo and the Vanguard's "Black Messiah." It's worth it.

Ladies Love Lyrics: K. Michelle's "Hard To Do"

K. Michelle released her sophomore cd "Anybody Wanna Buy A Heart" this week. I am no fan of hers, mainly because of her horrible attitude on "Love & Hip Hop Atlanta." But, I cannot deny, the woman can sing. I gave AWBAH a listen because I love "Maybe I Should Call." I enjoyed the whole project. But, I instantly connected to "Hard To Do." It's my favorite song on the cd. The song sample's Total's "Kissing You" which was one of my favorite songs growing up. The hook and chorus are the parts that cemented it for me. This one has already gotten a lot of play in my house. Get into this song and these lyrics.

"Cause what you gon do
When I put that pretty thing on you?
I usually don't do this,
But I'll do it for you.

[Chorus:]
Oh, baby cause...
Missing you is way too hard to do.
I'd rather be fucking you.
Do you mind if I give you love?
Cause I just wanna give you love.
Won't you tell me if I'm doing too much?
Missing you is way too hard to do.

Lately I've been in my feelings.
Dealing with the daily thoughts of missing you.
I ain't dialing but my body's calling for ya,
breaking down.
Gotta give it to you..."

Ladies Love Lyrics: Tamar Braxton/Future "Let Me Know"

This song had been stuck in my head for the last two days. I love it. It's Tamar Braxton's first single off of her upcoming second cd. The song is "Let Me Know" featuring Future. Something about it always draws me back to it. The beat is dope and I like the lyrics. Get into the video above and the lyrics below.

"Do you feel it in your heart?
Do you feel, do you feel it?
Do you feel it? Like I feel
Do you feel it in your soul?
Do you feel, do you feel it?
Do you feel it? Like I feel
When you know when it's right
Do you feel it?
You don't let go
Do you feel it? Do you feel it?
You don't let go
Do you feel it? Like I feel

We've been through so many things
Ups and downs and in between
If you need more love from me
I'll give you more, just let me know

It's like a loving when you run and go tell somebody
Same loving put you through hell sometimes
You don't give it up to nobody
When you love somebody
When you love somebody

Do you love the way I do
When I'm loving your body (let me know)
Hey, do you love the way I do
When I'm loving your body (let me know)
Hey, do you love the way I do
When I'm loving your body (let me know)
When I'm loving your body (let me know)
Love, loving your body (let me know)"

I Know You Care

"That Beyonce' reign just won't let up." Last weekend, it was all about Solange and those gorgeous wedding photos. This weekend, Beyonce' decided to break the internet herself. She did so in the form of a very cutesy video. Her new single is "7/11" and it's on the Platinum edition of "Beyonce'." It comes out next week. Now, truthfully, I have NO clue what the song is about. The lyrics are all over the place. I know it will get me hype if I'm getting ready to go out because it has that kind of feel. But, the beat is dope and feels very much like H-town. What won me over was this video. It looks like it was shot on an iPhone 6s and it is e-very-thing!!! I love how it shows Beyonce' being a carefree Black girl. I am here for it. Get into it below and enjoy!

Ladies Love Lyrics: JE "Getting Over You"

Jagged Edge is back!!! Finally. these four guys have provided the soundtrack to some very important and specific moments in my life. I am a fan. I also love the combination of them, Jermaine Dupri and Bryan Michael Cox. It's a formula that cannot lose. I was excited to get my hands on "JE Heartbreak II" so that my ears could be happy. I instantly fell for two songs "Future" and "Getting Over You/" One is about seeing your future in the eyes in the one you love while the other represents the opposite end of love, the ending. Both spoke to me for decidedly different reasons. I chose "Getting Over You" because it was more closely related to my current situation. You should def get into the video above, the lyrics below and the cd in its entirety.
I don't wanna spend, I don't wanna spendThe rest of my life getting ova youI don't wanna spend, I don't wanna spendThe rest of my life getting ova youMy soul I been pouring, I remember that morningYou left with no warningI need you nowI don't wanna spend, I don't wanna spendThe rest of my life getting ova you, now
From the moment I walked in it was wrong, so wrongYeah and I looked around for a couple seconds andEverything, it was gone, it was gone, it was goneSo many things about ya, it was perfect for meCan't believe all my love has gone awayAnd I'm down in the dumpster, I'm bout to fill this cupBartender, fill me up..."

Ladies Love Lyrics: Luke James' "Exit Wounds"

My obsession with Luke James started as a purely physical one. He is a gorgeous Black man. I like to look at him. It's just a bonus that he voice is as beautiful that he is. Oh, and the fact that he is a New Orleans boy makes him top notch in my book.  I am a true fan of his voice though. His self titled debut was released on September 23, 2014. I love it. I have two favorite tracks so far.  The first is "Exit Wound." It's one of those love lost/breakup/I'm over you songs that I find myself listening to a lot these days. Everything about it is golden to me. The second is "Insane." It's about a love that almost was. Both speak to me on a deep level. So, I had to share them with you guys. Get into the videos and lyrics below. Enjoy Luke James.

"I slept on your side of the bed yesterday
I don't understand why I can't forget you
I know I messed up when I missed your birthday
We both broke the code
Didn't think I'd ever see you go
I wonder if you ever loved me
'Cause if you did why be so cold

I hope you know this ain't a hurt
It's just an exit wound that just won't close
My brain lets guard each time I let you though
You left a hole
Stole my smile and all that I got left of you
Are these exit wounds

Well fuck you!
Everything you are today you made it
Can't believe I felt for all your fake shit
Well fuck you!

I'm kinda glad that it's over
I've found a better half I hope
That hurt you
I heard you moved back to New Orleans some how
We spoke on the phone,
Asking me where we went wrong
You wonder if I ever loved you
'Cause if I did why be so cold..."

Ladies Love Lyrics: Marsha Ambrosius' "So Good"

This Marsha Ambrosius song has been on repeat since this past weekend. It's "So Good" off her latest cd "Friends & Lovers" that came out this summer. I am a sucker for a lyrically dope song and Marsha knows how to do that. I love this whole project. She can do no wrong in my book. I am a fan. Get into these lyrics and this song.

"I can tell by looking at youThat thing is good, good good goodI can't help myself around youI wanna do every thingI ain't gonna front, I'm upfrontBlatant 'bout what I wantI want you here right now, babyLook at me the way that you doYou want me tooAnd I don't wanna waste no time
So make it rain and let it fallDown on me,I can't believeThat your love so goodSo goodYour love so good, so goodSo good to me
Outta space I'm on a high toThat shit is goodDon't let me come downPut your lips where I can find youAnd take me nowRun it deep like a running back,Make you work it back,Make me want it badMake me want you bad, babyTill the sun comes up and skies blueAnd over again I'll take it babe
Just make it rain down on me
I can't believe that your love is soGoodSo goodYour love so good, so goodSo good to me
You pulling on my hairYou're right between my legsYou're kissin' on my neckI'm scratching on your backI say baby go headGo hard, I say go aheadBaby, take it there..."

Ladies Love Lyrics: MJB's "Whole Damn Year"

Mary J. Blige has been singing my life's heartache and heartbreaks since her debut cd. She has had the ability to tap into that specific pain for years. Her new single is "Whole Damn Year." From the first listen, I was pulled in. The song is about the time it takes to get over a heartbreak. Mary says it took a whole damn year but it's going on two for me. So, this song is appropriate in this moment for me. Love everything about it because I am a MJB fan. Mary's new project "The London Sessions" will be released in November 2014. Get into these lyrics.

"See winter took most of my heart
And spring punched me right in the stomach
Summer came looking for blood
And by autumn, I was left with nothing

It took a whole damn year to repair my body
It took a whole damn year
It took a whole damn year to repair my body
It’s been about five years

Gon’ take a long long year for me to trust somebody
Gon’ take long long year
Gon’ take a long long year for me to touch somebody
It’s been about five years..."

Ladies Love Lyrics: Jazmine Sullivan's "Forever Don't Last"

Jazmine Sullivan is back. And, as a fan, I couldn't be happier. Her latest single is "Forever Doesn't Last." It is my current new favorite song. It's a song that touches me deeply and personally. The concept of "forever" has a very short shelf life in the world today. People say "Forever" when they really mean "right now" or "for the foreseeable future." Anyway, the lyrics of this song are so true. I really love it and the fact that it's Jazmine is singing them. Get into them.

"I had high hopes for us, baby.
Like I was on dope for us, baby.
Chasing after a high that I'd never get back again.
So we turn into 3 long years.
And it became painfully clear that we would
never see those days again.

But, I guess forever doesn't last too long,

forever doesn't last too long,

forever doesn't last too long
these days. Hey.
And, I tried to believe that we would make it.
But, trying don't work so I just have to face that

forever doesn't last too long these days.
Still think about the good times we had
and how you used to make me laugh.
But baby, I know most times we were miserable.
So every time I wanna call
baby what always help is when I think of the pain
and I realize I'm better off by myself.

Cause
forever doesn't last too long,
forever doesn't last too long,
forever doesn't last too long these days.
And, I tried to believe that we could make it.
But, trying don't work and I just have to face that

forever doesn't last too long these days.

Lord knows I gave it my all and
couldn't save us from falling.
Cause some people ain't meant to be
together forever, forever...

Ladies Love Lyrics: Eric Roberson's "Mark On Me"

I do love good music. Eric Roberson released his new project "The Box" this month. I haven't stopped playing it. I love it. Especially two tracks "I'm Not Trying To Keep Score" & "Mark On Me." They are the two tracks that I listen to first. And, I always come back to them. Get into the lyrics of "Mark On Me" because they are so dope. I remember that feeling so this song is sorta nostalgic.

"It didn’t go like I have plannedI thought after we shared an eveningThat I would have the upper handBut the thought of this girl ain't leavingShe’s constantly on my mindAnd I thought it would be the love the way aroundAnd I found, the games I play are played on me right nowBecause I smell her hair, and I smell her perfumeEven though my love she’s not thereAnd I can resume
Oh, she left a mark on meShe left a mark on me…”

Get Into It: J. Cole "Free" (Mike Brown Tribute)

This is why I love J. Cole. The raw emotion in this track echoes my own. There isn't much to say about it. Praying for justice for Mike Brown and his family and his community. Thank you Cole for this track. Get into it.

***Flawless On An Early Sunday Morning

Beyonce' Giselle Knowles-Carter and Onika Tanya Maraj just killed the internet. The remix to "***Flawless" was casually dropped on a late Saturday night like it was nothing. I am a fan of both and the original song. I did not think it could get any better. I was oh so wrong. Bey is rapping on the remix which is dope as hell. And, Nicki is spitting that realness that I need. It's just perfection in my eyes. And there is a outkast "SpottieOttieDopalicious" sample in the middle of the remix which is super dope. Listen to it Beyonce's website or down below. Enjoy.

Get Into It: The-Dream's "Royalty"

The-Dream can do no wrong when it comes to music in my book. He's a dope producer and writer. He's a pretty good singer as well. So, when I read that he was dropping a new project today, I was stoked. He posted this pic on Instagram and simply captioned it "777." He was putting us all on notice that "Royalty" was dropping on July 7th @ 7pm. I could not wait to hear it. I loved his last two projects: "1977" & "IV Play." Both still get much play over here. Good music will never be denied.

The-Dream did not disappoint me at all. There are only 7 songs but that's all he needed to get it right. Every track makes me feel some kinda way. I've listened to it twice all the way through. I keep returning to two songs. They are "Outkast" and "Wedding Bells." You guys know that I love lyrics and these two tracks speak to me. I love every song though. Great EP from an artist I have always dug. Go ahead and get into it. You can download it here. LEt me know what song(s) speak to you. Leave it in the comments, people.

Ladies Love Lyrics: Sam Smith "Stay With Me"

I love new music almost as much as I love new shoes. And, if you know me then you know that's saying a lot. I discovered Sam Smith via Twitter and Tumblr. His song "Stay With Me" is the first one I heard. I was instantly drawn into it. I liked it. There is also a live version duet with Mary J. Blige. There is something I really love about his voice. I've only heard two other songs by him so far. I think he may be around for a minute. Do yourself a favor and get into this song and its lyrics. Enjoy!

"Why am I so emotional?
No, it's not a good look, gain some self-control
And deep down I know this never works
But you can lay with me so it doesn't hurt
Oh, won't you stay with me?'Cause you're all I needThis ain't love, it's clear to see
But darling, stay with me..."

Get Into It: Marsha Ambrosius' EP "FVCK&LOVE

Marsha Ambrosius dropped some new music last week in the form of an EP. It is called "FVCK&LOVE." It's 6 songs deep and I love it. When I first saw the name of it, I read it as "FVCKLOVE" I knew I would be a fan instantly. Lol. Although I was a little wrong about the title, my opinion of the music was right on. Marsha is one of my faves. These songs are actually album worthy to me. If this is the direction that her second cd is going in, I am sure none of her fans will be disappointed. This EP is just to hold her fans over until her second solo cd "Friends & Lovers" is released later this year. My favorite song is "Friends & Lovers" for so many reasons but mainly because #LadiesLoveLyrics!! I really love this project. "FVCK&LOVE" can be downloaded here. You can check out the songs below. Get into Marsha's "FVCK&LOVE."

"Friends & Lovers" -
"We've been through some of the hardest times.
But, we made it through it all.
We made it through.
I've been to hell and back for you.
I'd do anything that I could for you.
Oh, I took you in after you lied to me
and you cried your tears.
And there I was sorry for all I had done to you
now here we are again

We can't be friends and lovers.
It will all end in us hurting each other.
No, we can't be friends and lovers.
Oh I love you but I can't do this again."

Ladies Love Lyrics: "Lost Queen"

Pharrell is dope. That is my overall opinion of him. He can do no wrong. He supplied my life a theme song a few times in the form of songs; "Frontin" (featuring Jay Z) and "Happy." I was very excited to hear his new project "G I R L." On first listen, "Lost Queen" was an immediate favorite. I love it. The beat and the lyrics are perfection. I like the whole cd but find myself playing this one track more than others. Get into the audio video above and the dope lyrics below. Oh, and go cop Pharrell's "G I R L" because it's worth your coins!!

"I think you are a lost queen
Let me serve you, serve you
Hot sex and gold, shiny things
I think you are a lost queen
Let me serve you, serve you
Remind you that you are a lost queen
I think you are a lost queen

I don't have a problem with multi-tasking
Taking care of you is my number one passion
Put it before my eyes, you know I'ma smash it
Only if you want it, want it
You don't have to ever think about asking
I can read your mind, girl, of course I have it
Can I start you up? It's automatic
Get your motor running, running, vroom-vroom
I'm never too busy to tell you that you're pretty
Ain't gotta ask me to
Surprise you in the city when your day is going shitty
Ain't gotta ask me to..."

Get Into It: JoJo

JoJo is a singer I have liked since her first single. She appeared on the scene as a cute teeny bopper soul singer. She released two studio albums and a few mixtapes. I really fell for her voice when she did this cover of SWV's "Weak" on her debut cd "JoJo" in 2004. As a Valentine's Day gift to her fans, she tweeted the #LOVEJO EP  yesterday. JoJo has been through hell trying to get off her former label Blackground Records. She was locked into a horrible contract. When she wanted out, they refused and also wouldn't put out any new music. So, she went the mixtape/free music route. Her voice has always been amazing to me. She is only 23 and her voice keeps getting better. She finally got her release and is now signed to Atlantic Records. She is currently working on her third studio album. I know it will be dope. This is just something to hold her fans over until it's ready. Get into JoJo and her cover of Anita Baker's "Caught Up In The Rapture."
