Today is the second inauguration of our 44th President Barack Hussein Obama. It is also Dr. Martin Luther King Jr National Holiday. I will not get on a soapbox about Dr. King. But, we all can say that his dream in some sort has been released in the re-election of President Obama. The people of the United States of America saw past the color of his skin and into his soul. I feel the same way today that I felt 4 years ago. I am bursting with pride because I know my vote counted. I helped elect this man twice. I have been interested in politics for as long as I can remember. Nothing has made me more prouder to be an American than I have been the last few years. I watched the inauguration the same way I did four years ago: happily. I am proud of my country today. Today will also go down in history. Just wanted to speak on that. I hope you guys watched it as well. Today is also a day of service. So, you guys should get out and do that as well. Happy Inauguration day & happy MLK day!!

There are two articles that I've read over the last few days that have shined a light brightly on this subject. They are this article and this one. Please do yourself a favor and read the ridiculousness that is white privilege in America. Who the hell do these people think they are? Also, how stupid are they? Yes, you can petition until you are blue in the face. But, the kick of this situation is this: in order to secede, you NEED the permission of the President. On the White house website, you can file a petition. If it gets 25,000 signatures in a 30 day period, the President will review it and decide what to do. But, seriously, what President in his right mind would give into a tactic such as this? One does not reward unruly children with gifts. I read the below and had to share because it was so true.
Dear Louisiana: You cannot remove yourself from a union that pays to feed, educate, shelter, and clothe a large portion of your population, subsidizes the vast majority of your economy, provides border-free tourism to support your largest university's athletics department and your largest cities, and routinely makes massive payments to protect, restore, and rebuild your coast.
You would have to create treaties and pay tariffs in order to import, refine, and then export for sale any oil pulled from offshore. You would have to pay a fine to continue using any interstate roads, pipelines, trains, etc. You would no longer benefit from the use of Border Patrol, ICE, The Navy, Air Force, Marines, NASA, Army, or the nationally funded National Guard. You would also need to create your own air space controller system, and have those people interact routinely with now international airspace controllers. Speaking of, any use of aircraft near the border of ...your airspace is a threat, and outside of your airspace is an attack.
You are now not allowed to use nuclear power, losing Louisiana many thousands of jobs and requiring you to purchase all electricity from the USA. Sorry, but new countries with nuclear powers are a threat, remember?
Do you have family in the USA? You cannot visit without a visa, and any attempt to do so is illegal immigration. Your students are no longer accepted as licensed professionals outside of your borders without retaking any licensing exams and the federal money given to your schools is no longer, so the higher education program will collapse. Healthcare companies no longer have any bylaws or contracts, so health insurance effectively does not exist in this new country. There go the hospitals.
Your police force cannot cross the border, so anyone leaving your state after committing any crime is safe under amnesty laws, and you will have to pay a high price to extradite them- and put them in now unfunded prisons.
I could go on but surely you see the idiocy of this idea by now?

One last note: Your agriculture is now entirely unable to be sold anywhere but Louisiana due to import and quarantine laws- both animals and plants.
Leaving the union sounds great when you are cherry picking your issues, but in reality, the USA needs you infinitely less than you need it.
I thought after the election I would get a break on blogging about politics. I was worn out. Happily worn out after the President won. But, here we are a week later, and there is even a more ridiculous political conversation. I am disgusted all over again with people. Some ignoramus from my home state started this petition here. well, I am a Democrat living in Louisiana who is not signing a petition so frivolous and childish. I like my President. I believe in him. And, furthermore, if I could live through the Presidency of an idiot like George W. Bush, then I can surely survive this one. I just want people, in general, to be smarter. Think with the brain in their heads and not the hate in their hearts. And, if anyone is so upset with the President and the state of this great country, then they should all feel free to leave...this country. Book a flight and catch a plane overseas. Trust me, you will never be freer anywhere on Earth than you are here in America. That I know is true.
PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA WON HIS RE-ELECTION BID!! He defeated Romney thus, securing his second term. I couldn't be happier or prouder!!
As of today, the President secured 303 Electoral College votes. Which is well above the 270 needed to win. Romney received 206. The popular vote was a bit closer. The President received 60,084,890 to Romney's 57,401,185 votes. That is 50% of the popular vote. The President also carried 93% of the Black vote, 71% of the Latino vote, 73% of the Asian vote, as well as 55% of the female vote. The President carried 86% of the liberal votes to Romney's 82% of the conservative vote. The President won self declared moderates 56 to 41%. Romney did not stand a chance. This article breaks down exactly how the President secured his re-election. It's a great read. The people have clearly spoken. We wanted our President back and we got him.
For me, there was only one choice. I voted early two weeks ago. I was as excited to vote as I was in 2008. I am a believer and supporter of President Barack Obama. So, of course, he got my vote again. I could not vote for Romney. It has less to do with him being a Republican and more to do with the fact that I have no clue as to who he is. He does not have my best interest at heart nor does he seem like the rest of us, you know the 47%. Either way, this is it. The votes will be cast and tallied by tonight. And, we will all know the outcome in a few hours. I have my fingers crossed that the newly elected President will be the same one we've had for the last four years. I can honestly say that I am over politics after this for a while. I'm tired. Geaux Vote, People. Every vote counts.
The final Presidential Debate on Foreign Policy was tonight. The President was on fire. He won, hands down. It's not hard to understand why. He is the President, he's actually worked on foreign policy. Mitt Romney has not. It was clear in Romney's lack of answers. I don't have a lot to say besides the fact that President Obama won 2 out of the 3 debates. That's it. I don't want to say Romney's name anymore. Hopefully, I won't have to since he won't be elected. This lady is finished. Now comes the election. Vote your heart, vote your conscious. I've had my mind made up for months. The President has my vote again. I am finally full of politics. I am done.
- The lack of respect shown to the man who holds the highest office in the land by people who know better. From Tavis Smiley and Dr. Cornell West to Mitt Romney and other GOP members. I'm disgusted about all of it. I don't ever remember the disrespect being so blatant and apparent for any other President. They should all be ashamed.
- The way in which the media has portrayed our First Lady in a negative light. There was the French magazine cover that depicted her as a naked slave, the email from a Congressmen calling her a monkey. All very racist and sickening.
- The fact that someone shoot at a Obama Denver Headquarters. Is this the world we live in?
- Yesterday, there was a bomb threat called into Malia and Sasha's school. So, now we are dragging the kids into this hatred. How low are these people? As much as I like the First Family, I am beyond sorry that they've had to deal with the ignorance and hatred that Americans clear have. It's sad that it is 2012 and this is still a huge issue.
- Taggart (again what kind dumb name is that?) Romney said after the second debate that he wanted to "run down to the debate floor and take a swing at the President." o_O This is the answer from a grown man who's father wants to be the President. How stupid are you? Even if that's the way you truly feel, his father has been in politics long enough for him to know what is or isn't politically correct. His answer while it may have been truthful was less than smart. I am slightly appalled at this. That does not seem like a first family I want.
- Faux News has been twisting and fabricating stories about the President since at least 2007. That channel is so filled with hate and fear. It amazes me that people actually watch this trash and believe it. That makes me sad about the world I live in, about the world I want to bring children into.

The moderator Jim Lehrer was useless in so many ways. He allowed Romney to be rude and classless. Romney continuously interrupted the President. He talked over the President. He even complained and argued with Jim. I was screaming and tweeting for Gwen Ifill to come and save this moderator. She does a great job and I enjoy her. She was clearly needed Wednesday night. The biggest winner has to be the new twitter account of one @FiredBigBird. This account was created after Romney told Jim that he would cut funding to PBS. In effect, firing the cast of "Sesame Street." The account was created during the debate and has garnered almost 28,000 followers at the time that I am writing this. The tweets from this account are hilarious. But, sad because who would fire Big Bird? Mitt Romney that's who. If that's not reason enough to vote to re-elect President Obama, I don't know what is.
The debates begin tonight. Don't forget to tune in to them. We will finally get to see what Romney/Ryan are made up or we'll get to see them squirm and avoid the actual question. Either way, it will be good. I cannot wait to see the President do what he does so well.

I would call myself an uber fan of a few folks. Someone, I won't call any names *cough* HIM *cough* called me a "stan" the other day. Who is a stan, sir? So, I sat with that and thought about it. I've concluded that there are two times of stans: the ones who absolutely love these artists/celebs and those who go overboard with the admiration. If I were to be completely honest, I would say that I fall into the first category. The following three people are my favorites. I am a fan of their work, their artistry, their politics, their intelligence and what they stand for. If that makes a stan, then I am one proudly. I like what/who I like. If you've been following this blog, it should not be a surprise who is on my list.
*Jay Z* He is by far my favorite rapper turned business man. In my eyes, the guy can do no wrong. I love his music because he is such a lyricist. I think he's super smart and very funny. He's a Sagittarius like myself so I get his humor. In concert, he put on a hell of a show. As a connoisseur of great music, I appreciate his attention to detail. He's very precise in the things that he does. I am clearly a fan.
*Beyonce'* Since the release of her first solo cd, I've been a fan. I love the tone of her voice. Her songs are either really light and fun (the club tracks) or deep love songs (that I love). Her music makes me happy. As a woman who loves a great concert, Beyonce' lives up to that and more. I've seen her a few times and I've never been disappointed. I will support her music because I like her. Case closed.
*President Barack Obama* Since first laying eyes on the President at the 2004 DNC, I was intrigued with him. I began to follow what he was doing. I've been impressed since then. Yes, I am more than ecstatic that he is the first Black President. But, I like him as a politician and as a person. He inspires me. His family inspires me. The Speech and Debate kid in me loves the orator in him. He was a man with a dream then. I believed him. He still has my vote.
So, there it is. That's my "stan" list. I cannot think of a better group of people to "stan" for. I know that none of them walk on water or are God. They are just humans. that Obamacare stays. The President won today. In a 5-4 Supreme Court ruling, the Affordable Care Act was upheld and deemed constitutional. The Republican party wanted the act knocked down. I am so surprised that the Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act. The decision was tight, it came down to 5-4. The President is clearly having a great day. He has to feel vindicated on many levels about this ruling. It is a huge feat for him. "Today's decision was a victory for people all over this country whose lives are more secure because of this law," - President Obama.
CNN has the best and most complete coverage of this historic ruling. Today has been a great win for the President. It also adds fuel to the fire for the election in November. Of course, President hopeful Romney had something negative to say. Stating that "What the court did not do in its last session, I will do on the first day if elected president of the United States, and that's to repeal Obamacare." That would be his first act as President. No job creation, no immigration laws, nothing of that matter. But, this has been the Republican agenda since the moment President Obama was elected. All I can do is shake my head and enjoy this little Democratic victory. Today, we won. Today, we celebrate this. Tomorrow is another day for another battle. Congratulations!

On Wednesday, May 9th, President Barack Obama set a precedent. He announced that he believed in marriage equality. He said that he believed that "same sex couples should have the right to get married." This was a huge political move. Some may even call it risky. I think it was a calculated risk. It is a hot button topic right now. I do no think the President could afford to stay silent much longer. The question has been asked. He finally gave an answer, his answer. I respect him for that. His answer brought on a storm. Everyone had something to say. Right wing, left wing, everyone. Some had not so nice things to say. But, we all have opinions and we're entitled to them. I have no issue with the President taking a firm stand. It makes him a better President to me.
There are things that I believe that the government should have no part in. Marriage happens to be one of them. There are many things that I do not get or understand. But, what I do get and understand is LOVE. And, I think that any two people, who are of legal age, should be allowed to married. Their race or sex should not play a part in determining who gets to marry. Let's be clear here, the state of marriage in the United States is failing. 50% of all first marriages end in divorce. So, I refuse to believe that allowing same sex marriages would somehow disrupt the sanctity of marriage. North Carolina passed a law that deems same sex marriage illegal. This s the same state where John Edwards is on trial for misusing funds with his mistress. The same mistress he had while running for President and while his wife was dealing with cancer. That sounds like a disruption to a marriage. Oh and he had a baby, which he denied, with said mistress.
Let me get this right. A gay couple who have been together for years and are clearly in love cannot get married. But Kim Kardashian is allowed to be married for 72 damn days? Where is the sanctity of that marriage? OR the fact that Newt Gingrich has been married 4 times? I think people have things messed up. What I find most disturbing about this is the opinion of Christians. On Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr, I have read the most hateful things from so called Christians. I do not call myself a perfect Christians. But, I know enough about the Bible and God's word to know that judging anyone is no bueno. "Judge not lest ye be judged." (Matt. 7:1) But, I guess they all forgot about that particular scripture.
I know that some of this announcement comes from playing the political game. I'm a politics girl, I get that. But, I also believe that President Obama would not have taken a stand if this was not what he believed in. He decided that what was going on was unfair. I agree with him. I have been reading that people believe that this will cost him in the election. I believe that no matter what fundamental or situational issue I disagree with the President on, none of them will ever be solved by voting for a Republican especially Mitt Romney. Romney does not have my best interest at heart. Yes, I like President Obama. No, I do not believe that he is a saint or savior. He is just a man with a great political plan. It's a bonus that he is a Black man with a Black family. His family mirrors my own. I identify with him.
Whether or not this will harm or help the President, will not be proven until November. I don't think it will. He still has my vote. That hasn't changed. I have a feeling that it won't sway that many people. And, if it does, then they could not have been Democrats in the first place. I refuse to ever vote Republican unless their rhetoric changes drastically. Which I doubt will ever happen. Same sex marriages aren't an issue for me. The people who want to bring the Bible in this need to realize that one can only stand up for their lives on judgement day. I commend Barack Obama for his words and his choice. It makes me proud of him.
A few hours ago, President Obama gave his sixth State of the Union address. It goes without saying that he is an excellent orator. He can definitely give a great speech. Tonight's speech was great for a plethora of other reasons. This speech called out the Republicans on all the things they haven't been doing, all the bills they have been vehemently opposing. He spoke on the issue of college tuition being too high, college loans percents doubling, and what he will do to correct it. One of the standout points in his speech was about the importance of teachers. President Obama spoke about teachers mattering and that those who weren't doing their job or just teaching to the test should not have a job. High notes were also about ending the war, still focusing on green energy, holding Congress accountable, and faxing companies for outsourcing jobs overseas.
I found it hilarious how tight John Boehner face was during the whole speech. His face was void of any emotion. He hardly ever clapped or stood up. I was totally shocked when he clapped about the tax issue. The speech was just over an hour long. President Obama held my attention the entire time. The real work starts now. I cannot wait to see what moves the Republicans will make in the upcoming months. The election, once the GOP nominates someone, will be long and tedious. Herman Cain is running on the platform that he is the "anti-Obama." He is right about that. He is nothing like my President. There is nothing inspirational or hopeful about Cain and his platform. I wouldn't even delve into what his platform is. My main issue with Cain is his attitude towards Blacks. He has said that Blacks are "brainwashed into voting for Democrats." To me, that comes off as we cannot think for ourselves. As if we are too stupid, ignorant, uninformed to make an intelligent choice when it comes to voting. I hate for a person to underestimate my intelligence. Herman Cain seems to look down on the 99%, especially Blacks. That is an ultimate no-no in my book. I also see what the Republicans are attempting to do, split the minority and youth vote that got President Obama elected in 2008. I simply do not approve of Herman Cain.
Journalist Toure' tweets "It baffles me how Cain can attack Black people—call us brainwashed, deny racism, deny Obama's Blackness—and still some Blacks loooove him." I totally agree. As a dark skinned Black man who denies that racism exists says a lot about Cain's character. Yes, we have a Black President. But, we still live in a country full of racists. I would be a fool to believe that President Obama's election erased all of the racism in the U.S. That is beyond absurd. Any Black person who believes such an outlandish tale is silly as well. I live in the real world. I leave fairy tales for the kids.
That picture of Herman Cain & Uncle Ruckus is a perfection depiction in my mind. Uncle Ruckus hates Black people. I'm beginning to believe the same thing about Cain. His delivery and condescending attitude grates on my nerves. I also do not think he has a chance in hell of actually securing the GOP nomination. He is being used as a ploy. Sad, that he does not see that. Anyway, I have a very adverse reaction to this man and every thing he says. He is a cartoon character to me. I will be voting for President Obama in 2012. Wish I could vote for him again in 2016. Either way, I would never vote for Herman Cain. It has less to do with him being a Republican and more to do with the fact that he is a joke. I'm not impressed. And, I actually feel sorry for the GOP. There isn't one strong contender in that whole group. Not Perry or Bachmann or Romney. None of them have it. That makes me smile. Oh, yeah just fyi, Obama in 2012!
Truer words have not been written. This picture really caught my eye. It expresses my exact thoughts. I have been a President Obama supporter since the first time I saw him at the DNC 2004. His demeanor, voice and aura intrigued me.I began looking into his background. I loved the things I found out. I voted for him in 2008 because I believed in him. I will cast my vote for him again in 2012 for the same reason. I did not solely vote for him because he is a Black man. There have been other Black men who have attempted to run. They failed. There is another Black man hoping to get his party's bid for 2012 right now. He won't get my vote either. Mainly because I think Herman Cain, just like Michael Steele, is the Republicans ploy to split the minority vote.
I am voting for Mr. Obama again in 2012 because I think he is the most qualified for the job. A non-politician like Cain has no experience. This is Mr. Obama's job to finish in his second term. I was never one of the people who saw him as a savior or the Messiah. He is just a man with a plan. A plan that Republicans have tried to block at each turn. That saddest thing about that is that the Republicans are opposing him on principal alone. They haven't offered any resolutions either. So, in the end, the 99% suffer. I still believe in President Obama's mission. I will still be voting for him. What about you? Will you have his back in 2012?

Osama Bin Laden is dead. The number one terrorist on our list has been taken care of. All of this under the direction of our President Obama. As an American, I can feel a slight relief with this development. But, I cannot be happy about any one's death. That just isn't in me. This news was sudden to me. I did not know what to expect when the President broke into tv programming Sunday night. I was of the belief that Bin Laden would die before we ever caught him. This announcement caught me off guard. The above front page was in the New York Daily Post. The headline expresses the way most if not all feel about Osama Bin Laden.
Life post-9/11 has been different. I know I will forever remember where I was when the planes went into the Twin Towers. I can recall clearly how I felt about what I was watching. Things were so surreal. The thought that my country was under attack was insane. I do not think that my generation ever thought that something like this could happen. It just felt like we were living a movie...a horror film. At the time, I thought nothing could ever be so horrible. I was stunned and shocked. Those images will forever be ingrained into my head. Those two planes going into the Twin Towers forever changed American life. Too many souls were lost that day. Bin Laden claimed that he was responsible. For that admission, his death is deserved.
After President Obama announced the news, Americans gathered in the streets, waving the flag, and chanting "USA" in glee. I was disturbed by that. It reminded me of the people overseas doing the same manner. It just wasn't a good feeling. Still isn't. This is not a reason to rejoice. There is something inhumane about this. Americans also need to realize that Bin Laden's death does not signal the end of the war on terrorism. Al Queda is still strong and alive. I will not feel 100% safe until the threat is completely gone. Bin Laden's death could make the U.S. more susceptible to an act of terrorism. The world is a crazy place. His death is an American victory. There is no denying this. Osama Bin Laden is dead and the world is a better place for it.

There is no other way to say this. We are not in a post-racial America because our President is Barack Obama. The Tea Party, Donald Trump, Republicans calling for our elected President's long form birth certificate is every bit as racial. Never in our history, has a President been asked such absurd things. Now, folks are calling for his college transcripts. Really America?? No one questioned the intelligence of George W. Bush or Sarah Palin. Both of them were questionable students with lackluster grades. But a Harvard Law grad gets a second look? What type of foolishness is this?
I came across a great article via Facebook. It was posted on the site The Grio by a Goldie Taylor. It sums up everything I think about this whole situation. It is impossible for anyone to ascend to the office of President of this United States without being properly looked into. All paperwork, credentials, and the like are investigated. Even furthermore, the thought that Mr. Obama's mother and grandparents knew that the little boy born on August 4, 1961 would grow up to attend Columbia, graduate magna cum laude from Harvard Law, become a senator in Chicago and eventually become President. I'm sorry but that conspiracy theory in comical and implausible. And, I serious wonder about the mental capacity of anyone who wholeheartedly believes any of this.
I could actually respect these birthers more if they just say what it is that they are really mad about. Just say that you are angry about the fact that a Black man is running a country that was essentially built on the backs of many Blacks. I have no love for racist people. As a Black woman in America, my plight has been hard enough. I am angry that our President is having to produce papers that will not appease his detractors. Nothing he does will ever be good enough for them. Because the one thing he cannot change or fix is the fact that he is a proud Black man. And, one thing they cannot change or erase is the fact that he is our President. Elected by the people, for the people. That is the truth. It is what it is.

I shake my head at the ridiculousness of Donald Trump and that dead rug on his head. He is the new Sarah Palin. A lot of talk and fluff with no substance or intelligence underneath it. I have no respect for that. I'm sorry but if Trump can walk around with that ferret on his head and thinks it looks good, I cannot trust him to run my country. And, he's also filed for bankruptcy 6 times. He has a habit of not finishing what he's started. Sorry, but I will be Baracking my vote again in 2012 for my President. I believe that he was born here. I believe that he is doing a great job with what was left at his doorsteps. He still is the best person for the job. I did not need to see his birth certificate to know that he is a American citizen. In the words of President Barack Obama, "we do not have time for silliness."
