Get Into It: Drake Did That!!

There are really no words. As a fan of Hip Hop, I am loving this. If you've been living under a rock for the last few days, Meek Mill went on a Twitter rant about Drake. Drake released a diss track called "Charged Up" a few days later. IT was nice. Meek did not respond other than two wack tweets. Four days later, Drake reupped on that Meek diss and took it up a notch with "Back 2 Back Freestyle." Drake killed Meek. It's just that simple. He came with facts and dope bars and silent but deadly jabs over a ridiculous beat. And, he posted it to soundcloud in the wee hours of the morning right after Meek performed in Drake's hometown of Toronto.

"You getting bodied by a singin m***a"
"Shout out to my bitches wifin niggas"
"Is this a world tour or ya girl tour?"
"I see what you do for fame, wonder what you would do for freedom."
This is the part of Hip Hop that makes me excited. This was unexpected but needed. I like both dudes. Been rocking Meek's new cd since it came out. But, I am a Drake fan & I have been since his second mixtape. He holds a special place in my lyrical heart. Drake is doing this the right way. Even if Meek claps back, he's already lost in the eyes of the masses because he started this and hasn't responded. Anyway, get into both of Drake's diss tracks.

Classic Music: Drake "So Far Gone"

I remember the night Drake dropped "So Far Gone." He literally broke the Internet. His mixtape was widely anticipated. I had been a fan since I discovered "Replacement Girl" & "Closer" from his two less popular mixtapes. I knew that this will be would not disappoint. I was more than right. There isn't one track that I didn't like. It's classic to me because it's timeless music. It's still relevant to me right now & the cd is 3 years old.

Drake straddles that line between rapping and singing without being corny. I love his approach, delivery, and lyrics. I'm clearly a fan. If I had to pick a favorite from this mixtape, I'd have to give the edge to "Successful." That edge is only slightly over "Best I Ever Had" since it still makes me feel the same way it did the first time. "So Far Gone" is just good music. It came out during a down time in music for me, specifically in Hip-Hop. I've enjoyed everything Drake has released since then. But, I just feel a deeper connection to SFG. It's my classic music pick of the month. Enjoy the below tracks!

Ladies Love Lyrics: "Take Care"

This song has been stuck in my head for days now. I don't know why but I just love it. I can't help it. The lyrics do something for me. The beat is different though. Drake & Rihanna make hot tracks together. I cannot deny this. The official video for "Take Care" is supposedly coming this week. Can't wait to see the visuals. Until then, let's enjoy the audio track. Get into it!

"[Rihanna] Cause if you let me, here’s what I’ll do I’ll take care of you I’ve loved and I’ve lost

[Drake: Verse 2] Yeah It’s my birthday, I'll get high if I want to Can’t deny that I want you, but I'll lie if I have to Cause you don’t say you love me To your friends when they ask you Even though we both know that you do (you do) One time, been in love one time You and all your girls in the club one time All soconvinced that you’re following your heart Cause your mind don’t control what it does sometimes We all have our nights though, don’t be so ashamed I’ve had mine, you’ve had yours, we both know We know, you hate being alone You ain’t the only one You hate the fact that you bought the dream And they sold you once You love your friends but somebody shoulda told you somethin’ to save you Instead they say, Don't tell me, I don't care If you hurt, I don't tell you You don't care, if you're true

Don't tell me, I don't care If you hurt, I don't tell you You don't care, if you're true

[Rihanna] Know you’ve been hurt by someone else I can tell by the way you carry yourself If you let me, here’s what I’ll do I’ll take care of you I’ve loved and I’ve lost..."

We Talking Bout Practice?!?

Before I get deep into my topic, let me just say that I am a Drake fan. Have been since his second mixtape. But, I do not give him a pass for touching a classic. For turning a straight bounce track to some emo track. Yes, Juvenile's "Back Dat Ass Up" is a 504 classic. The intro alone conjures up a multitude of memories. My girls and I used to lose our minds to this track nightly.

Drake dropped the video for "Practice." Let's actually ignore the actual song. I mean the only part of the song I really dig is "all my 504 girls need to drop it right now" because I am a 504 girl always ;-) The big discussion on Twitter has been about the video. It's very simple and low budget. The video chick is "dancing" in the mirror and on cam. I witnessed guys on Twitter, with the exception of one, going crazy about the girl in the video. Or, better yet, the girls ass. I'm not blind so I see that the video chick has a big ass. Honestly, I did not see anything spectacular in the video. I wasn't impressed with the dancing. I've done better (especially to Juvie's track) and seen better. I will say the video was realistic because what woman hasn't danced in the mirror. It's what we do.

I just don't get the hype over the girl...other than her assets. Clearly, men and women see things differently. The reality is music videos are for men. They all follow the same formula. Nice crib, flashy car, bottles of Ace, video girls who are amply stacked and the rapper de jour. I hardly ever watch them any more. But, the twitter talk was too insane for me to resist. What do you guys think of Drake's video?

Get Into It: "Take Care"

I am a Drake fan. Have been for a while now. So I was patiently awaiting his sophomore cd "Take Care." It has been called many things by many people. I just call it good music. It's very laidback and melodic. The two singles "Headlines" and "Make Me Proud" are favorites of mine. I especially loved the buzz single or the summer "Marvin's Room" because I could relate. Even with a release date pushback and a major leak a week and have half before it dropped couldn't stop this cd from landing the #1 spot on the Billboard chart. It's that good.

My favorite tracks have to be "Look What You've Done," "Underground Kings," and "Lord Knows." "Look What You've Done" is quite perfect. I love that Drake and 40 sampled Static Major for this track. I can play the whole church straight through and that is a plus to me. Deal is a very emotions conscious rapper. I dig that about it. Except for one bar, there hasn't been one thing he spit that I don't believe. Sorry, Aubrey, but none of us believe that anyone is going to "make you catch a body." It's just not plausible to me. Other than that minor misstep, Drake excels on "Take Care." It's what I expected from him. He's stayed true to himself with no input from the YMCMB conglomerate. He's sticking to what has made him stand out. Drake has been in his own lane from day one. I'm so glad to see that hasn't changed.

I'm not a huge fan of The Weeknd. He mumbles a lot when he sings. So I could do without his features. I used to be a big Wayne fan but lately not so much. I did appreciate his features on TC. Wayne rapped on TC the way he was supposed to rap on C4 but didn't. Drake's other features on TC are really good as well. Andre 3000, Nicki Minaj and Rick Ross all appear on tracks. "Take Care," to me is a very cohesive body of work. I can rock to it. I'm wondering what will make the cut for future singles though. Take a listen and get into "Take Care."

Tat My Name...What?

I am a Drake fan. I have been since his second mixtape. Way before Wayne got ahold of him, way before he was YMCMB. I was a fan. A few nights ago, the Twitterverae was all caught up when Drake and Rick Ross' "Free Spirit" dropped. The beat is ridiculous and I love Drake's verse. I am indifferent to Ross though. There is one line in the chorus that has bugged me since I heard it. "Tat my name on it so I know that it's real." Ummm, sir, WHAT??? What type of ghetto, ignorant ish is this? Tattoo's are permanent. Music careers are not.

I think that Drake is tripping with this one line. Now, don't get me wrong, I LOVE tattoos. I have a few. I really want at least two more (small) ones. But, tattooing a man's name on me ain't it. I do not believe in such foolishness. That one act would not prove that I loved a man. Nor would it prove that the relationship will last. And, I wonder exactly how could me tattooing his name on my body prove that its "real?" In my eyes, it's real dumb. I would never do that. It goes against everything that I believe in. My love for said man would be proven in a plethora of other ways that would clearly mean more. Conversely, I would absolutely die if a man tatted my name on him. I would be highly concerned. It is not an act of love that I need, want, or desire. And, if he is with me, he would already know this about me. I am totally against it.

Strangely enough, I do not think some rappers realize their influence over young impressionable minds. Drake has a large younger following. Maybe his lyrics should be a little more accountable. I also spotted a picture of a young girl with "Drizzy Drake" tattooed on the back of her thighs. o_O Ma'am? Really? I am dumbfounded. This is insane. In the words of my cousin Janelle, "the children are clearly not our future anymore!" I am still shaking my head. So, in response to Aubrey Drake Graham, "No, sir, I WILL NOT tat your f'n name to let you know it's real." A real man who is in a relationship and in love with me already knows it is so real. No tattoos needed.
