By Submission Too

A few days ago, I discussed the word submit and the Bible. Today I want to delve a little into the sexual nature of it. "Submission" is big business in sex. There is a whole lifestyle dedicated to it. I do not know a lot about it because it's not my life. The act of submitting to someone does entice me. IT speaks to a place inside of me that I can readily identify now. I did not know what it was before I was like 28/29. I had no name for it because it was not fed. Now, I have identified it now. I have accepted it. Now, I wan t to discuss it.

When you are a strong woman day in and day out, sometimes all you want is someone else to handle things once in a while. I am spoiled and bossy and have to be in control. This comes with being the oldest child. It's the role I am most familiar with. When it comes to certain aspects in life, I just want to relinquish control. I don't want to make all the decisions. I don't want to be the one who wears the pants. This has a lot to do with my uber traditional morals. I have no shame in writing this. It's a part of who I am. It's kind of a no-brainer that I could be submissive. I'm not into the whole BDSM lifestyle. I have no real taste for it. But, I have no issue with the right man taking total control in the bedroom.

I'm not going to go into full detail of what works for me. But, I just know that it makes perfect sense for me to be this way. My personality is big and bossy. That does not translate into all arenas in my life. I am more than ok with that. Some days, I just want to be the quiet one. I just want to be held in his arms as we block the rest of the wayward world the hell out. That is my idea of euphoria. No, I don't need some one to take care of me. But, I need someone who is able to do this for me. I can't admit this. Can you?

The Supreme Court Says...

that Obamacare stays. The President won today. In a 5-4 Supreme Court ruling, the Affordable Care Act was upheld and deemed constitutional. The Republican party wanted the act knocked down. I am so surprised that the Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act. The decision was tight, it came down to 5-4. The President is clearly having a great day. He has to feel vindicated on many levels about this ruling. It is a huge feat for him. "Today's decision was a victory for people all over this country whose lives are more secure because of this law," - President Obama.

CNN has the best and most complete coverage of this historic ruling. Today has been a great win for the President. It also adds fuel to the fire for the election in November. Of course, President hopeful Romney had something negative to say. Stating that "What the court did not do in its last session, I will do on the first day if elected president of the United States, and that's to repeal Obamacare." That would be his first act as President. No job creation, no immigration laws, nothing of that matter. But, this has been the Republican agenda since the moment President Obama was elected. All I can do is shake my head and enjoy this little Democratic victory. Today, we won. Today, we celebrate this. Tomorrow is another day for another battle. Congratulations!

By Submission

The word "Submit" brings two things to my mind. One is from the Word, the other is sexual. I want to tackle the Word first. To submit means "To give over or to yield to the power or authority of another; to subject to some kind of treatment or influence; to present for the approval, consideration, or decision of another; to state or urge with deference; suggest or propose; to yield oneself to the power of authority; to allow oneself to be subjected to some kind of treatment; to defer to another's judgement, opinion, decision." Definitions of words are very subjective. People tend to run wild with their own perceptions of the word. Submitting means a lot to most people. The word conjures up negative images for some.

I believe that too many women are adamantly against the idea of "submission." They think that it is negative by definition. I've heard women say that they "aren't submitting to any man." Submission does not automatically mean giving away all you r power or doing whatever a man says. That is not what I get from the Bible verses or the actual definition of the word. Submitting in a relationship, to me, means letting a man be the head of the household. That is what the Bible teaches.

"Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it." (Ephesians 5:22-25)

I have no issue with the word "submit." I know that I have to hang up my single self if/when I get married. For the right man, submitting won't even be any issue. The right man will not take advantage of the word or of me. He will not degrade me while using the Bible as his reasoning. I wouldn't allow it. I've been in in too many situations that were wrong so I know right when I see it, feel it. It will be the natural order of things in my household. That is what I believe in my heart. I Are you willing to lose out on your soul mate because of a word? Let's discuss submission Biblically.

Get Into It: Got 2B Real

Youtube is the home to so many little gems. I love that I keep running across them. The "Got 2B Real" series is hilarious for more reasons than one. It is a parody of some of the biggest divas in the music industry. Patti, Beyonce, Aretha, Mary, Janet, Dionne, Chaka, Mariah, Rihanna, and Fantasia all make multiple appearances. It is full of snarky, shady comments. It's like a reality show of women we love and love to hate. The voices are literally spot on.

Below are the last two episodes of GTBR. The creator of the series goes by the name Patti LaHelle. She is hilarious. She does all the voices for the shady parodies. She always makes me laugh. If you are in need of a laugh, please get into this series. I have heard that this may be the end of the series. That makes me sad. They are such great little gems. Please do yourself a favor and check it out on youtube.

Ladies Love Lyrics: Lady Antebellum "Need You Now"

Sometes I get songs stuck in my head. This time, it just happens to be a country song. It's not a new song but I'm still in love with it. I cannot stop singing this. Hope you guys are open to something different in my "Ladies Love Lyrics" section. I do love other genres of music as well. Enjoy.

"Picture perfect
memories scattered all around the floor
Reachin' for the phone
'cause I can't fight it anymore
And I wonder if I ever cross your mind
For me it happens all the time

It's a quarter after one,
I'm all alone and I need you now
Said I wouldn't call but
I lost all control and I need you now
And I don't know how I can do
without I just need you now

Another shot of whiskey
can't stop looking at the door
Wishing you'd come sweeping in the way you did before
And I wonder if I ever cross your mind
For me it happens all the time

It's a quarter after one,
I'm a little drunk and
I need you now
Said I wouldn't call but
I lost all control and I need you now
And I don't know how I can do without
I just need you now

Guess I'd rather hurt than feel nothin' at all
It's a quarter after one I'm all alone and I need you now
And I said I wouldn't call but I lost all control and I need you now
And I don't know how I can do without
I just need you now
I just need you now (wait)
Ooo, baby, I need you now"

The Crowned King is Finally a Champion

LeBron James has his ring. The king is sitting atop the championship throne after winning Thursday night. As someone who has been impressed with James since the first time I saw his high school game on ESPN, I'm happy for him. He is arguably one of the best players in the game. He is in his 9th year in the league. He just got his first ring. I have a feeling that more will follow. He's just that good. Maybe this will finally silence all of those naysayers. It should since he showed up and showed out.

The media crowned him king at 17 before he even entered the league. He was "the chosen one" in high school. He had a lucrative Nike shoe deal without having an NBA contract. In short, the kid was amazing before he even stepped foot on an NBA court. He was that great. Everyone wanted to see him prosper. He gave 7 long years to Cleveland. A team that he made relevant. Before him, I didnt know what the Cavs uniform looked like or who any of the players were. James was the team. But, no one man can do it alone. I would compare James' situation in Cleveland to Iverson's in Philly. There was never enough greatness around them to help. James took the Cavs further than they've ever been. James decided to leave Cleveland AFTER his contract was up, AFTER the owners didn't bring in better plays. He was loyal to his home state and to his team for 7 years.

His decision to leave was his own. It made sense. He wanted a ring. He made a move to get one. He became the most hated man in one night. Cleveland fans burned his jerseys. The Cavs owner wrote a most disrespectful open letter to the fans which degraded James. I thought all of that was disgusting. He took a lot of heat (no pun intended) for his move. But, in the end, he did what was best for him. His first year in Miami ended in defeat. In two seasons, he did what he couldn't in Cleveland. He finally won his first ring. It was great to see him laughing and smiling on the sideline during the final moments of the game. James looked like a kid. He proved everybody wrong. That has to be a great feeling.

The Finals were bittersweet for me as my Celtics were knocked out by the Heat. I cam say that I didnt watch the games like I normally do. I would catch the highlights on Sports Center. I was still interested in what was going on though. I love basketball and the NBA. Love to watch the greats play and win. I couldn't hate James if I wanted to. No, me wanted to win more than him. No one had more to prove. His stats were incredible this season. He was focused. When asked how did he feel about finally winning, James responded "Its about damn time!" I have to agree. Congrats to LeBron and the Miami Heat, 2012 Champions.

The Scenario: Dating Websites

Here's the scenario. An engaged man has an open and active page on a popular dating website. He's been in a relationship with the woman for over 5 years . They also have a kid. They are recently engaged. Oh and this man makes no mention of his child on this site either. You know the couple involved. Do you tell the fiancee what you know? Also, is this behavior appropriate?

In my opinion, the behavior is highly suspect. I would not approve of my spouse being on a dating website. I would wonder why he feels the need to still have one. It would seem as though he has something to hide. It's creepy and pervy to have this alternative life going on. If this man loves me enough to ask me to marry him, I would think he would not need anyone else. If we are engaged, then he should not be fishing for dates on a website. Who does that?

This topic was brought up in a group I'm in. The reaction was mixed. But, there was a strong divide between the men and the women on the subject. It just shows me that men and women perceive things differently. All the men saw nothing particularly wrong with it. But, they were not having it if it was their fiancee on the site. Women were categorically against it. We were all up in arms about the seediness of it. It just rubbed me the wrong way. What do you guys think? Let's discuss.

Oh, How I Love New Shows!

When it comes to summer television programming, it used to be nothing but reruns. But, times have changed drastically. Now, most channels offer specific new summer programming. I have a few faves like USA's "Royal Pains" and CBS' "Big Brother." This summer brings a few new shows that I can't wait to watch. Let's discuss.

USA is known for their summer programming. This summer is no different. The new anti-buddy cop show is called "Common Law." My initial interest in the show was based solely on the eye candy that is Michael Ealy. I have been a fan of his since "Barber Shop." I tuned in just to see that face and that smile. Turns out, the show is pretty dope. It's a lighthearted turn on the tried and true cop show formula. It is like the polar opposite of one of my all time favorite shows "Law & Order SVU." Ealy plays Travis Marks, a former foster kid turned playboy Detective. His partner, Detective Wes Mitchell, is a lawyer turned very straight laced, recently divorced detective. The two are in couples counseling because their constant fighting is causing trouble at work. Of course, comedy ensues. The show is very cute. It airs at 9pm on Fridays.

TVLand is jumping into the fray with a new show. "The Soul Man" stars Cedric the Entertainer as Reverend Boyce Ballentine, a soul singer turned preacher who uproots his entire life and family to take over his Father's church. His wife, Lolli, is played by Niecey Nash, his daughter Lyric played by Jazz Raycole are not adjusting well to the new changes in their life. Boyce's life is rounded out with his Father and lazy brother as well as the members of his church. It premiered on Wednesday, June 20th @ 9pm. The series premiere was funny, insightful and music. I think it's a really cute show. I will continue to watch. And, I love seeing functional Black families displayed in a positive light on television. The show airs @ 9pm on Wednesdays.

Next on my list is the ABC Family comedy "Baby Daddy." I have to say that I wanted to see this show for Tahj Mowry. I've liked him since his "Full House" and "Smart Guy" days. This show is essentially the tv modern version of the hit movie "Three Men & a Baby." That may be the appeal for me since I loved both of those movies. It's always funny to see people's funny antics when it comes to babies. And, of course, none of the 4 main characters have any real experience with babies. The twins who portray baby Emma are adorable. Adorable kids will always draw me in. This show is cute and I will be watching. It airs on Wednesdays @ 7pm.

I kinda have a love/hate relationship with summer shows. They are great but they take forever to return. On the nights when it's too hot to be out and about, mindless tv makes any night better. I can only watch reruns of shows I really love. There aren't many on that list. So, I'm always on the lookout for something new to indulge in. What are your favorite summer shows? Are you watching either of the two above? Tell me your thoughts.

Get Into It: HGTV's "Kitchen Cousins

I am an HGTV junkie. It's one of my favorite channels. I spend my weekends watching this channel and ABC Family. There is always something interesting to watch. HGTV feeds my inner interior decorator. Shows like "House Hunters," "Love It or List It," "My First Place," and "Property Brothers" are staple favorites of mine.

My latest obsession on this channel is "Kitchen Cousins." My favorite rooms in houses are kitchens and master suites. This show definitely indulges me in one area. The premise of the show is two cousins named John & Anthony gut and redo kitchens. It's essentially a kitchen makeover show. They do the renovations in little to no time. And, I haven't seen a "Kitchen Cousins" renovation that I haven't automatically loved. These guys are great at what they do.

Cabinet finishes, granite counters and wood floors make me immensely happy. I just love to see what the cousins/hosts come up with. Their work sparks so many ideas in me for my future kitchen. The show airs new episodes on Wednesdays on HGTV @ 7pm. Do yourself a favor and get into it. I can honestly say that you win not be disappointed.

Picture These Words

While browsing the net, I am often caught up with the images I see. I love to see things that inspire me and make me think. Sometimes I am motivated to write. That is what happened when I came across the images below. They stirred something deep within me. So, i had to share a few thoughts with the world. Hope you enjoy them.

Pictures like the one above make me happy. I love when I come across an image that catches my eye. This one is so relevant. Change in chaos seem to go hand in hand. If it's not chaotic, then its not necessarily life changing. I'm not a huge supporter of change especially if its sudden. But, I know that change is evolutionary. Change is the driving factor in life. We are all in a constant state of change. I know that this is true. Change, in any form, is chaotic. I think chaos makes us feel alive. It pumps the blood in our veins. This image just rings so true to me. The wording of "Great change" hits me the most. Not just normal change, but epic, life altering change. Those are the moments that I look forward to the most. Those are the ones who stand out in the story of your life. Those are the moments that make life worth living to me.

Would life really be all that simple if we could do this? It's a novel idea. Deleting all the bad things from our lives. I use to believe that doing this would be awesome. But, then I began to think about it. All the bad things, the moments that I wasn't my best, the times when I broke and I cried, they all made me ME. Every thing that has happened to me has shaped my life. The memories made for nice stories to tell my younger siblings, cousins and friends. They are moments that make my life, my journey relatable. Every heartache, every tear, every second of wavering faith have turned me from Yolanda & Kenneth's little girl to their 32 year old grown daughter. I cannot forget where I've been no sooner than I can deny who I am. The journey is as important as all the destinations along the way. I believe that all the tears I've cried, all the sad poems I've written and all the less than stellar thoughts I've thought matter. All the pieces matter. In the end, I would rather have a story full of bumps in the road that made me stronger, better.

Sometimes I see things that just touch me. I am always all about the words. They never fail me. It's one of the reasons why I really enjoy Tumblr. I can always count on someone posting something that will make me laugh or make me think. I just felt like sharing these pictures/words with you guys. They inspired me a little. Hope they inspire you as well. Have you seen any posts that inspire a thought in you? If so, share with me!

Outside (My) Movie Box: Part 7

I am totally not a comic book chick. I had heard so much about "The Avengers." And, I felt the urge to check it out. I was not disappointed in any way. It was amazing. I went into this movie sort of blind. I knew the characters name and literally nothing else about most of them. I had no real clue as to who Captain America or Ironman really are but I at least knew their names. Hawkeye, Nick Fury and Black Widow are completely new names/characters to me. I know more about the Hulk, Thor and Loki. None of this deterred me. I sat down and was enthralled from the opening scene.

"The Avengers" was a great movie. I loved every bit of it. I can honestly say that I am a new fan of Ironman. Tony Starks is hilarious to me. I am kind of partial to Robert Downey Jr. I saw "Thor" but wasn't that impressed. It was just ok. But, I am so glad that of all the comic book films, "Thor" is the one I saw. It is the movie that is the basic plot of "The Avengers." The Hulk was hilarious in the film as well. I do remember the show from when I was a kid. I liked him then as well. I'm not really sure where the character Black Widow comes from but I enjoyed her. She was dope. Hawkeye was one of favorite characters. He was just very precise. I will not talk about the actual film because I know some have not seen it. Just know that it is great. And, I am pretty sure that there will be another film. I will be there to see it as well.

I feel the need to see the "Ironman" films. I want to know more about how he came to be. I guess I should get on it. I know that I am super late. But, better late than never right? And, after I finish with them, "Captain America" will be next on the list. I need to know more about his story as well. I have been stuck on the "Spiderman" films. Thanks mostly to my nephews. I can admit that I love Peter Parker and the three films. I am expanding my movie mind by watching things out of the norm for me. This has been an exciting journey to take. If you haven't seen the movie, you need to. It is a really great movie. Go ahead and get into "The Avengers."

New Music: Tristan Wilds, Emanny

It's new music time again. This time, I'm focusing on the guys. Over the last few days, I've been listening to two projects over & over. Tristan Wilds is a name that you should know. He is most famously known as an actor. He played Michael Lee on seasons 4 &5 of HBO's hit "The Wire." He is now on the hit show "90210" as Dixon. But, now Tristan is trying his hand at a new love: music. He released his EP "Remember, Remember" on his blog at the end of last year. The second guy is Emanny. He is awesome and dope. He is a guy I found via Twitter. I'm so glad I did. Both projects fall into the category of R&B/Hip-Hop. Which is just the genre I love.

When it comes to Tristan, I can admit that I am super late on this one. I knew he was working on music but I hadn't followed up on it. I saw his new video "Cold" on Necole Bitchie's website. The video is simple and cute and I love it. The song is one of my favorites. As is his interlude, which is a remake of the Nancy Sinatra song "Bang, Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)." This song became popular again when it was used in "Kill Bill."Tristan flawlessly mixes r&B and Hip-Hop on his EP. His tone when singing is very melodic. I am definitely a new fan of his music. His EP has me excited for new music from him. I was pleasantly surprised while listening to the EP. I am always on the lookout for good new music. And, Tristan's work falls into that category. If you haven't heard it before, take the time and get into the videos below and the EP as a whole. I love this.

My other new find is Emanny. I came across him by way of Joe Budden's twitter page. I first heard him on a SLV track. His voice is intoxicating. So, I downloaded his "Songs About Her" & "Road To The Highlife" here & have been playing both constantly. There isn't a track I dislike. "I Messed Up" featuring Joe Budden & "Young & Ready" featuring Jadakiss are two standout tracks. Emanny's voice is soothing. I like his lyrics. I am wondering what he will drop next. I don't know his label situation but he is a winner to me. His two projects so far have been very solid.

I love the fact that social media sites are keeping me abreast of new music. Honestly, top 40 radio just plays the same songs by the same artists. That can be beyond boring. I like to hear music that everyone hasn't heard already or played out already. Without Twitter, Tumblr, and blogs, I would've missed both of these guys projects. I'm glad I didn't though. Go ahead and get into both of them. Remember their names. I have a feeling that they will be stars.

Rant: Let the Father's Have Their Day!

Announcement: Father's Day is for Fathers. Yes, you read that right. The day is to celebrate all Dads. It is not a holiday to celebrate single moms. I think it is selfish for Moms to want to claim it as theirs as well. I grew up in a single parent home. Mom was it. But, the reality is she was not Mom and Dad. She was, however, a Super Mom in my eyes. But, she was not my Dad. She could not teach me lessons that only a Dad can. I cannot take this seriously. Why is this the trend? I will not tell any woman "Happy Father's Day" because it is not their day. By definition of the word father, mothers are totally exempt.

I've noticed on multiple social media sites that single moms cannot wait to take the credit for being both parents. It was literally 12:05 on Twitter when the anti-Father's day tweets started flying. I think its sad that fathers, especially in the Black community, cannot even have their day. This doesn't happen on Mother's Day. I have never seen men try to take credit for being both parents, even though this happens as well. In my opinion, it comes across as bitter. Moms are celebrated and exalted all year long. Dads seems to get a bad rep. And, I don't think its fair or warranted. There is another issue at hand here. But, as a woman without kids, I refuse to dive into it. So, let's just let the Fathers have their day. Let's try this out next year.

It's Father's Day!

Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there! In all honesty, this day doesn't mean a whole lot to me currently. My Dad is deceased & I don't have kids. I would like to be more optimistic about today's holiday. And, in the future, I'm sure I will be. I will spend today the way I have for the last 14 years: reminiscing about my Dad, Kenneth. This holiday just makes me miss him even more. I wish he was still here. Wish I could be having a conversation with him. No tears today though. I will not allow them. I'm going to think happy thoughts and remember the good times. Dads are pretty important people. Today is their day. So, make sure you let the Dads in your life know how much they are loved & appreciated. Happy Father's Day!

Get Into It: Goodreads

Reading is one of my absolute favorite past times. It is one of my things. So, imagine my surprise to find a website that feeds that need for me. Goodreads is described as a social cataloging website for all the books you've read and want to read. You can join virtual book clubs or connect with friends over the books that they've read. I have my Goodreads page connected to my Facebook page. This was a plus for me. It connects me with friends and classmates who I know are serious readers. They have given me great reviews on some books. This is a plus for me. This site is basically genius. It's all of my favorite authors and books in the same place. It is a virtual library listing.

I absolutely love this site. I was able to set up a goal for myself. I want to read 100 books this year. This site helps keep me on track. I can review books that I've read and read other reviews. This has been very helpful when I am looking for new books to read. I like to share my opinions on the great books I've read and the really awful ones. It may be the literature nerd in me but this site is a little taste of heaven. Good reads also makes a bunch of recommendations for new books to read based on my books. The site is so informative for a reader. I have a list of about 35 books that I have to read soon. Most I never would've known about without seeing them in my recommendations list. If you're a reader, this is the place for you. Get into Goodreads.

Stunts & Shows: Basketball Wives Edition

I can admit that I was a fan of VH1's "Basketball Wives" at first. The first season was a mix of silliness, fuckery and drink throwing. I watched it for the ridiculousness. I tuned out when it became embarrassing to watch 40 year old women behaving in such a gross manner. I was over it. I have seen all of the talk on Twitter about the stunts of this season. This season was so over the top that a petition to get Evelyn kicked off the show was born. The petition has garnered over 31,000 signatures. The petition's author is bothered by the violence Evelyn has displayed over the seasons of BBW. After the reunion, Shaunie O'Neal, creator/executive producer/co-star of BBW, said that she wanted to change the scope of the shown get away from the violence and shake up the cast. In a turn of events that can only be called ridiculous, the powers that be decided to get rid of Jennifer, Royce, and Kesha. What? Are you serious?

Of the cast members, the ones who should have gotten the ax over their actions are Evelyn and Tami. These two women have been nothing but drink throwing, hair pulling bullies. Every season, these two women have been involved in altercations with each other as well as other cast members. If Shaunie and VH1 really wanted to change the view of the show, getting rid of the problem would have been a solution. This turn of events just solidifies the fact that tptb (the powers that be) do not care about changing the drama. They are only concerned with the ratings. This should be reason enough for more people to simply change the channel. If the ratings drop way off, the show will cancel itself. I do not adhere to the believe that these women represent all Black women. I do not associate with any women who act like these 40 year old high schoolers. I just don't.

Jennifer was smacked on national tv. She was attacked on multiple occasions. By someone who was her friend for 14 years. I will say that verbally, she gave as much as she got. But, she never got physical with anyone. Evelyn was always the aggressor in every instance. But, she has retained her spot on the show. Kesha was only on the show one season. Tami reduced this woman to tears and fears. She berated her constantly. She called her out of name on more than one occasion. Granted, Kesha should have stood off for herself more. But, none of Kesha's actions warranted any of Tami's. I am ashamed of the actions of these bullies. Evelyn threw 2 bottles of wine at Kenya. In a wine bar. In real life. And, then said "Why are y'all always stopping me?" That signifies no remorse. Evelyn and Tami both gave these apologies that I do not believe.

Whatever "Basketball Wives" was supposed to be at the beginning, it never was. I'm sure that it could never be it either. This show from its name alone was a joke. It was more a mixture of baby mommas, ex-fiancee's, ex-girlfriends, ex-wives of basketball players. Jennifer was the only wive on her show. I used to be a huge reality tv fan. I'm starting to get annoyed with it. The faux celebrity and relevance it brings to people we shouldn't even know. It's disgusting and I'm over it. I will not be watching the next season of BBW just like I didn't watch this season. Seems like VH1 and Shaunie pulled a quick one on their viewers. The real question is are you as a viewer willing to be taken for a ride?

Ladies Love Lyrics: Floetry "Feelings"

Floetry was the perfect group to me. These two ladies were the perfect blend of a melodic soulful voice and spoken word. I feel like we (their fans) were robed of future greatness from them when the group disbanded. All we have now are their two wonderful cds. I can still listen to both without skipping a song. One song I love is "Feelings." I will always remember exactly where I was when I first heard it. I was visiting Baltimore and heard it riding around the city. I loved it instantly and still do. It's just that kind of song that stays with you. Enjoy!

"I'm emotional,
You're emotional,
Could be why we always argue our…
Conversations short,
We cant open up,
It's just become,
Much too difficult,
I don't know what to do,
Don't know what to prove.
This is more than me,
So much more than you.
Can we make it through?
You and I.
I can't decide.

I just can't decide,
If it's you I want,
Don't wanna choose between,
Having you in my life,
Or loosing you for real.

Because I caught feelings.(Feelings)
Are we falling in love with our fears?
I caught feelings.(Feelings)
'Cause we're acting like we're really here, we're not really here.
Caught feelings.(Feelings)
I'm not afraid of the pain.

I'm a stubborn girl,
You're a stubborn guy,
Could be why,
We fight all the time.
If it's not your way,
Then it must be mine.
Can't communicate,
Can't even compromise.
I don't know what to do,
I don't know what to prove.
This is more than me,
So much more than you.
Can we make it through?
You and I,
I can't decide...

Places I Must Visit: Venice, Italy

Venice, Italy. I've been enamored with this city since the first time I saw pictures of the beautiful buildings that line the rivers and the gondolas. I was amazed that the people traveled so frequently by the waterways. Gondolas and the gondoliers have always seemed very romantic to me. I love how old the buildings look and how colorful the city is. Venice is the city that makes you believe in magic. Cars are banned here so the only way to travel is by foot or by water. How old school is that? It seems like the city of Venice is a perfect place for lovers to visit. I am sure that this is why it's high on my list of places that I have to visit.

It's My Hair: Melissa Harris-Perry Talks Hair Politics

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Black hair is THE topic of conversation. The above video is a great discussion on the subject. I am a fan of Melissa Harris-Perry and her platform. Her MSNBC show is a great political show with a point of view of that of a Black woman. I think she is a great political voice. She had a panel of four other varied Black women in various states of natural hair. I loved the variety of women that Harris-Perry had on her show. It was the perfect forum to discuss an issue that will not go away. All the women had interesting things to say about Black hair. Please take the time to watch the video. It's very insightful and enlightening.

Black hair is big business. Black women spend more on hair products and services more than any other group. We are that business. So, this huge shift towards the natural journey means a shift or loss in money. I don't know if it's because I am in a transitioning phase but I see this topic comes up a lot. I see more natural sisters now that I am becoming one. My hair is important to me. It is a part of me. Whatever I do to it, is my business. It's not about making a political statement or taking a stance. I made this choice for me. I want to know what my natural hair feels like, looks like. I may love it. I may hate it. But, I will always have options. No one made me do it or talked me into this. Actually, I've gotten some negative feedback from family members as well as positive. But, thankfully, I am not easily swayed. I have great self esteem and know what I stand for. This is the right move for me right now. I really do not care who doesn't like it or agree with it. It's not their hair.

The entire discussion was great to hear. I loved what Nicole Ari Parker said about her daughter. I think that epiphany is wonderful. And, if I had a daughter, I am sure I would feel the same way. Nicole from Curly Nikki made a great point as well about the issue being political and personal. I think that for most Black women, the decision to embrace their natural hair is a personal one. I, for one, did not set out to make a political stand with my hair. It's very interesting that people outside of the Black community are so enthralled with our hair. Yes, we already know its amazing as we are as a people. The conversation will continue as they always do when it pertains to Black women. We are definitely a great topic to discuss. In the end, our hair in any and every state is a issue that people should be intrigued by.

I LOVED Def Poetry!

Before I even knew it, I was a Poet. Writing poetry was my introduction to the world that I would always claim as my own. Imagine my surprise and utter glee when I saw the commercials for HBO's "Def Poetry." The poet in me could not wait. I made sure that I was always in front of a television when it was on. I ate it up. I almost always loved every poet. I loved the way that poetry connects all people. The show was a hit in my mind. I was so sad when it just disappeared from HBO with no warning.

Def Poetry was one of the best things on tv. I loved seeing my passion manifested on tv. I never missed an episode. I love that there were normal people on the show. One of the good things about this show was the celebrities that came to do spoken word. I was watching Floetry's appearance on it via youtube. That inspired this post. It's just my favorite celebs on one of my favorite shows. I really wish this show would come back. It was too good to just be over. Enjoy the videos and poems below. I still am!

*Floetry "Fantasize"
(I fantasize about you and all the things I want to do.")

*Kanye West "Bittersweet"
("Bittersweet, you're gonna be the death of me. I don't want you but I need you.")

*Jill Scott "Ain't A Ceiling"
("You say life's being hard on you. Well brother I've got news. It's been hard on me too.")

*Kim Fields "How Come"
("Will cook catfish butt naked in high heels. Suck and fuck like a champ.")

*Malcolm Jamal Warner "I Love My Woman"
("I want to scream out her name and do all the things a man isn't supposed to do.")

*Lauryn Hill "Motives and Thoughts"
("negative imagery holding us down.")

*Erykah Badu "Fans, Friends and Artists"
("Which one are you? Which one are me?")

*Phylicia Rashad "On Status"
("I even dared to write them less.")

*David Banner "What About Us?"
("The levees broke in New Orleans.")

*John Legend "Again"
("And, we're doing it again...")

Discover New Drinks!

I am a social drinker. I love a good vodka or a great glass of wine. Martini's are my mixed drink of choice these days. I usually stick to the basics when I drink. A dirty martini or a glass of Merlot. Sometimes, like this past weekend, I decided to deviate from that. I went to two different places and had a few new drinks. They were are all a success. So, I wanted to share them with you.

I've been a Moscato fan long before Drake rapped about it. I've tried a few different brands. I've never been disappointed by any of them. I think I've found one of my favorites. It is Gianni Doglia Moscato d'Asti. This Moscato is very sweet but not overly so. I was very impressed with it. The bottle's were reasonably priced. And, our glasses stayed full all night. I will definitely be enjoying this again. Even though I prefer reds, Moscato and Chardonnay's will always be fine with me. A good glass of wine can never be a bad thing. So, these are my new found discoveries. You guys should check them out.

This drink right here ^^^ is my absolute new favorite drink!! It's a fresh strawberry martini. I had it last weekend from Bonefish Grill. I am a vodka girl which means I love a good martini. It was made with Square One Botanical vodka, hand-muddled strawberries and chamomile citrus tea infusion. This is the best mixture ever. I love strawberries so much. They are my favorite fruit. I have never had a martini that included strawberries in any way. It was as good as it looks. It was sweet and smooth. It wasn't too strong but it was just right. I had two. Get into it, people!!

Classic Music: New Edition "Candygirl"

New Edition is my FAVORITE group of all time. They are the boy band I grew up with. "Candy Girl" is also the first album I ever owned. I played in relentlessly. I drove my mother insane with my love for this group. I was sold from the first time I heard them. They were so cute and brown and had these squeaky little voices. I was in love especially with Ralph Tresvant. My Dad gave me "Candy Girl" and a record player as a gift. Best gift ever as a kid.

Every song on that album was a favorite of mine. But, I was always partial to "Jealous Girl" and "Candy Girl." Every time I hear any of these songs, I am instantly transported back to my childhood. Back to my purple room, me laying on my stomach on the floor listening to this album with my window open as the breeze blew in. New Edition were an essential part of my childhood. Every song they released, every video all stand out to me. That is why "Candy Girl" is a classic album to me. I am still as much of a fan today that I was then. It's been 29 years since it was released. It still holds up. Below are my favorites from New Edition's "Candy Girl."

RIP to Print

The world is changing at an alarming rate. We are becoming a more digital community by the second. In many ways, this is awesome. Everything is at our fingertips. But, on the flip side of that, it leaves newspapers and magazines on the decline. That makes this writer really sad. Magazines and newspapers are folding left and right. My own home town newspaper, The Times Picayune, just announced that they will be cutting back their production to 3 days a week. That means writers will be laid off. It means TP will be doing more with less. That is sad.

I don't know about you but I love reading the newspaper. I love the way the paper feels in my hand. I love the smell of the ink on the paper. I think it goes back to when I was the newspaper editor in high school. Newspaper are so authentic. I truly makes me said that things like this are going on all over the country. I think in our race to get to the next big thing in technology that we are totally forgetting about the little guys, the pioneers. Getting my news online is fine but it just doesn't feel the same. It isn't the way I'm used to getting my local news. I know that life is all about change. Some times I am just slow to adapt to it. It will be strange not being able to get a newspaper every day. Sundays will still be fine though. Oh well, it's the end of an era. Adapting will happen for me as well.

Random Is Always Good, Right?

° My Celtics are one win away from returning to the NBA Finals! That's very exciting to a fan like me.

° There are some things that I just don't need to know. Ugh. I wish people would stop sharing things with me that my brain doesn't need to process.

° I'm not real big on meeting new groups of people, especially females. I went to a party where I literally knew 2 people. I thought I would be incredibly uncomfortable. I was wrong. I had a really great time.

° One of my favorite shows, "The Game," had its season finale the other night. It was a perfect episode. I'm sad because the two main characters aren't returning next season. Don't think I will be watching it either. All bad.

° I have fallen for neon nail polish. It's so bright, it's ridiculous. But, it's fun and summery. And truly girly, just like moi :-)

° I read on Twitter that Tweet and Missy Elliott are both working on new projects. In looking forward to both.

° I am currently reading "The Four Agreements" & "The Secret." Both wonderful books. I like how much they've enlightened me. Reading is definitely something I could never give up.

° I saw "The Avengers" last week. I was so impressed with it. Such a great movie. I'm not really into all the comic book movies but this one was awesome. I also saw "Men In Black 3D." It was everything I wanted to be? I'm a fan of the series. Everyone should go see it.

° This past Tuesday marked the 9th month since I last got a relaxer. I'm so proud of myself for sticking to this transitioning process. As a woman who has had relaxed hair for at least 20 years, this is brand new. So now I'm just looking forward to the next natural hair milestone.

° I took great pleasure in watching the Lakers lose. That may sound bad but I'm not a fan. I just didn't want to see them in the Finals again.

° I spent last Sunday watching Hot 97's Summer Jam. I don't know the last time I spent that much time listening to Hip Hop. It was interesting to say the least. But Wale & Meek Mill made it all worth it.

° I love when he reads anything to me. His voice is melodic to me ;-)

Equality...For Some?

Today, the Republicans showed women how much we matter. Not one Republican voted for the passage of the pay equity bill. "The bill, which Democrats said would close loopholes in the 1963 Equal Pay Act, would require employers to prove that differences in pay were related to job performance, not gender; would prevent employers from forbidding employees from sharing salary information with each other; and would allow women who believe they were discriminated against to sue for damages." (www.cnn.com) From all that I've read about this bill passing it seemed like a no brainer.

In 2012, women still aren't paid the same as men. The consensus is that for every $1 a man makes, a woman is only paid .77¢. Now how fair is that? It isn't. And, if the only reason that a woman is paid less has to do with her sex that is morally wrong. I do not see how anyone can say that this is right. It seems as though the Republican war on women is still on. That disturbs me on so many levels. I don't see how the Republicans can defend any moves they have made in the last 3 years. Every thing has been to stop all moves by President Obama. And, the only people who consitiently lose are the citizens. This is a big blow to women. It's only June. November a long way from now. What else can happen between now and then? I'm not sure but I know it won't be pretty. Keep your eyes open, people.

Soooo, Zombies?!?

I have no clue what is going on in Florida. But, I want them to contain it to that state. A man ATE another man's face off. What in the entire hell?!? Why? What?!? How does this even happen? And, the man was naked as he munched on dude's face. Really, people, this is not normal behavior. I do not know exactly what type of drugs he was on. I've heard bath salts, LSD and PCP. But, how do you get that high and that hungry that someone's face seems like an appropriate meal?

So, of course, this story has prompted the conspiracy theorists to say that we are dealing with zombies. I do not believe this train of thought. It seems like a SyFy movie, not real life. The world seems to be getting crazier. But cannibalism is not a new notion. Remember Jeffery Dahmer? He ate a whole gang of folks. I think this story just startled me because of the specifics of it. Why was he naked? Why did the victim allow this man get close enough to eat his face? What else was going on there?

This is the face of the dubbed "Miami cannibal." His name is Rudy Eugene. I am sure his family is behind mortified by this. I wonder if he remembers any of it or if he's remorseful. So many questions, not enough answers. I just don't know what to think. I feel sorry for the victim. No one deserves that. I never even thought something like this would happen in real life. It's the plot of a wack b murder movie. I am just flabbergasted. It's just so weird. I can't call it. Again, let me say, that the state of Florida does not have to worry about me taking up residence there. I am good on that.

Get Into It: Bouché

I just discovered the perfect spot in my city. It is a very unique wine bar/cigar lounge named "Bouché." From the moment we actually found it (we passed it a few times), I was sold. We were seated in the front of Bouché on these cute sofas and chairs in front of a huge picture window. It was dimly lit. The art on the walls were interesting and conversation pieces. The wine was flowing as was the conversation. The Celtics/Heat game was on the tv at the bar. I was just thoroughly impressed with everything that my eyes saw. I cannot wait to go back there.

Their wine list is impressive. We drank a few bottles of Giani Doglia Moscato d'Asti. Which by the way was sweet and delicious. The food is impeccable. The cost is reasonable. And, the most important part is that the ambiance is enticing. It's a nice spot to just chill. It's located on the same block as Emeril's but can go unnoticed. The outside of the building is very unassuming. But, once inside the doors, you are transported to another place. There are the cutest booths with curtains that can be closed for privacy. There are a few banquet rooms and a cigar lounge. It also has a full bar and kitchen that is slightly opened to the patrons viewing. I was just very impressed with it all. The service was amazing too. If you get a chance, you should also check Bouche' out. Go ahead and get into it!!!

Revoked!

In a twist that couldn't have come any sooner, George Zimmerman's bail has been revoked. George Zimmerman is headed to his rightful place: jail. On Friday, June 1st, the judge revoked his jail for lying. The judge concluded hat Zimmerman and his wife willfully misled the court about their finances. Both said on record that they were flat broke. This was a blatant lie as Zimmerman had collected over $200,000 in donations from a website he set up. The District Attorney was livid about this lie as was the judge.

The Zimmerman's may be one of the dumbest couples. The reason they got caught was due to their recorded jail telephone conversations. It doesn't take a genius to know that all conversations involving inmates are monitored. The wife hasn't been charged with contempt or perjury yet. But, I suspect that those charges are forthcoming. No judge or lawyer likes to be made a fool of. That's exactly what the Zimmerman's have done. Strange behavior for a man who's supposedly innocent, right?

To me, this whole ordeal brings into question Zimmerman's credibility. He lied about money to avoid jail. What's to stop him from doing the same in his trial? It's clear the man feels no remorse for killing an unarmed teen. A man scared of jail just might spin a tale to keep himself free. This is a blow to the defense team. And a great win for the prosecution. It gives me a little hope that justice may ultimately be served. Trayvon Martin's family may actually get their closure. This case may not even make it to trial this year. But, no matter what, I will be watching and praying for the right verdict.

"The fact George Zimmerman was dishonest is very important because his credibility is the most important thing in this entire case," Benjamin Crump, the Martin family lawyer, said Friday.

Music Moment!

There's no other reason for this post other than the fact that I LOVE this song. That's saying a lot because I'm very particular when it comes to my Hip Hop. But, this Meek Mill/Drake track makes me smile. A lot. It's not about the lyrics as it is about the beat. It's so ridiculous. I also heard that this will serve as a single for Meek and there is a video forthcoming. I'm curious to see what the visual looks like. So, listen and vibe with me. "Amen"

It's My Hair: Eyebrow Edition

My eyebrows are a big deal to me. They've been arched with a straight razor, plucked, waxed and threaded. All painful in their own right. But all necessary. I literally feel slightly undone when they aren't perfectly snatched. I am in a threading phase. I do not see myself moving on from here. It's more expensive than the others. The winning factor is that it lasts longer than waxing, plucking or using a razor. The pain is minimal compared to the others. I love the way my brows look after they've been threaded.

I'm lucky in the sense that I have a pretty perfect natural arch. This, I've been told, makes it almost impossible to mess them up while grooming them. But, like the old saying goes, almost doesn't count. I've had my fair share of mishaps when it comes to my brows. My profile picture is the perfect example of my precisely threaded eyebrows. That is my goal every time I get them done. I know, I know, I'm such a girlie girl. I am very much into primping myself. My appearance is important to me. My eyebrows are high on that list. What about you, ladies?

When Stans Go Too Far (The Twitter Edition)

Twitter, like all social media sites, can be the gift and the curse. Beyoncé has some of the best fans. She has some of the worst stans though. For those who don't know, stans are the overly obsessive, compulsive fans. These are the people who give regular fans a bad name. Stans are awful because of their actions. They will "drag" people all for the love of their faves. This never ends well. It's gotten worse with the emergence and popularity of Twitter, Facebook and blogs. Beyoncé's stans went so far overboard on Twitter and Tumblr a few nights ago. What I saw happen was beyond disgusting. And, the end result was one of my favorite writers and follows on Twitter deleted her account. That made me angry and sad.

A few nights ago, I was being thoroughly entertained with the tweets of one dream hampton. The topic of conversation was her teenage daughter's summer reading list. She named a few books that I haven't read so I'm thankful for that. The next tweet was out of character for her. She asked how someone got a picture of her daughter. The same daughter she is fiercely protective of, that she only refers to as the "AD" (awesome daughter). I never knew her daughters name or her face. And, in all actuality, why should I? What ensued was a serious ridiculous look into the minds of young people. A Beyoncé stan tweeted a picture of Bey and AD with the comment "Ewww" in front of it. This was followed by "she (referring to AD) wasn't cute anyway." Other stans joined in with calling dream's daughter ugly. They also cursed dream put, told her to stop overreacting and called her heinous names.

These stans went out of their way to be rude and cruel to dream and AD. They were malicious and gross. They attacked a child. A child who has know Beyoncé for 10 years. A child Beyoncé sees as family. Do you guys see how delusional these stans are? Why would Beyoncé be proud of them? This whole ordeal cause dream to delete her account for good. Her daughters picture, which was posed on a private Facebook Page, has been all over the web. Her daughter was attacked and called ugly. What adult does that to a kid? Why would you? I was heartsick watching it. Some people need a good psychiatrist and Jesus. I was ashamed of them. They should be ashamed of themselves.

The situation is beyond unfortunate. It just shows how bold people can be when they are behind a computer screen. It's very easy to have balls then. I'm sure none of them would have said any of that to dream's face. I'm sorry her daughter had to endure such nastiness from people. Seems like the stans were just jealous that they won't ever be that up close and personal with their idol. Twitter can be the devil when you're dealing with evil people. And, in my book, you have to be evil to say bad things about a child. I'm still shaking my head over this. It's just a really sad situation. I'm sorry for dream. I'm sorry that this had to happen. People need to do better, much better. Grow up. There is nothing healthy about being a stan. Y'all do remember the Eminem song? Stans are mentally wack people. Think about that before you speak ill all supposedly in the name of the artist you love. I'm sure they don't love that.
